@Coldwarrior1984 the decision not to do this for the Normandy beaches (and generally for all amphibious assaults) is/was to keep clear lines of sight open for fire support as well as to keep beach assault units from becoming lost and landing in the wrong areas. The latter was messy enough without the smoke, the former is arguably how they got off the beaches.

So does the sz between Madagascar and Kenya/Rhod also connect to S Africa.
No.
@Krieghund I don’t think this is correct and feel I need to ask if you are sure of this answer. This is a bit of a shock since I don’t see anything in the rules, the rules clarification or the FAQ about it. If there was a mistake in drawing the map, I feel we would see it addressed in one of these documents. As always, I defer/conform to your expertise but I have to ask for a reference or clarification on this answer. Photo below for reference. You’re saying the highlighted area below does NOT boarder the sea zone? @kwaspek104 @WILD-BILL

USA and Russia bought the 3 AA guns, and I added a comment to the game log.
If one sinks on a transport, then it can be purchased again, right?

RE: The Biggest Blunder on D-Dayposted in World War II History
Reading this, I feel strongly you’re confused about the nature of the German defenses in Normandy. In combination, I feel you are overestimating the Allies ability to place smoke as precisely and in the quantity that would have been required to have a chance to accomplish the goal you lay out. I also feel you’re overestimating the effectiveness of smoke even if I grant that none of the above was an issue.
I’ve been to Normandy three times with tour guides. I’ve read everything from Ambrose and Osprey on Overlord. I’m tempted to repeat my initial post about why you don’t hear or see this tactic being performed en masse in the many assaults in the Pacific or Mediterranean.
I’ll just sum this up and say that the German fighting positions were not composed primarily of Saving Private Ryan style bunkers but widerstandsnest with Tobruks across so much acreage that a simultaneous precision smoke affect against all of them for the required time to get everyone ashore is less realistic that just a mass smoke bombardment of the beach area.

@The_Good_Captain Now that’s odd. When I answered this, I was looking at the illustration of the map in the Rulebook, not at the map itself. In that illustration, the border between those sea zones meets at the border between Union of South Africa and Mozambique. However, as we can see, on the map itself, it doesn’t. Interesting. In any case, you’re right, the answer should have been “yes”.
I never noticed that photo in the rulebook on page 8. Thanks for clarifying that and as always, your service to the hobby is much appreciated.

Is Australia an island for purposes of landing stranded fighters?
No. Page 8, right column - see definition of an “island”.

@VictoryFirst so apparently you can copy paste the entire “view turn summary” tab at the end of the round and it will post like you see above, just like old times. You still have to post the save though.

Fighters can capture neutral territories but can they still conduct combat?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
Fighters can capture neutral territories by flying over them. The rule states the territory is automatically captured with no battle. My question is this: Can an air unit fly over a neutral territory and then conduct combat in a zone adjacent?
For example: A German fighter flies out of eastern Europe and into the Black sea. It then flies over Turkey (capturing it in the process) and engages in combat in Persia with the British. [One might want to do this if there is an AA gun in Ukraine SSR or Eastern Europe] If it survives combat, it will land in German occupied Persia.
Is this a legal move?

Oh! I might have misunderstood someone, but
I thought you (normally) can’t build ships into an enemy occupied zone.
A player could build a navy, attack a sub that’s in the factory zone and fail, the sub submerges in the battle and then the player couldn’t place the navy. There is no submerge in Axis and Allies 2nd Edition. (That’s one the abominations of “3rd edition”) The sub is forced to retreat thereby clearing the zone for placement of naval units.
Also, I was warned that if the building player unwittingly attacked a sub that was in a zone next to the factory zone and the defender withdrew the sub to the factory zone that again that navy could not be built.
All this is correct. Keyword is ‘unwittingly’. Know the rules - Know Problem (my joke).
Pages 11 and 21, I would think not being able to place a navy would not even be super rare. I’m posting this only because you know the rules front and back and I’m trying to understand them
I haven’t seen it yet. You’ll be the first I reach out to when I do though, trust.

I agree with you in general about the tank spam, but I learned a lot from your strategy. I was/am shocked at how much firepower can be assembled so quickly. I feel more confident in buying more tanks in future turns of future games. Further, I am not a fan of artillery and our games really reinforced the value of tank/inf combinations for me. In general, your strategy scared the hell out of me on more than one occasion. I really appreciate them. And yes, of course we can rack up another game but I will need to take a pause for about a month. I get back from a vacation around the 18th of April. Is it okay if we kick off our next game around that time?

RE: Applying Casualties Questionposted in Axis & Allies Classic
The practical application in an actual game is the following:
This can adversely affect naval battles with multiple unit types on both sides and land battles in which the defender has a bomber(s) or a defense with multinational forces present.
It can cause the defender to misallocate his hits not knowing if the attacker is going to roll hot, cold or par.

@VictoryFirst hey - I re-read the rules around subs and the order of operations for naval combat and check this out:
so in that battle, I could make the decision to submerge AFTER seeing the results. I still would have declared a submerge but wow. Really interesting difference between this game and other versions.
If we have a naval battle with any defending subs, we will have to use the “Roll Dice” option under the “Game” tab. And then we will have to edit in the results after the battle.
