Hello all!
I have decided to rebut Don’s essays on Axis and Allies classic in a ten part series on YouTube. You can check out the first video (in two parts) by clicking on the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_u_mOFTcQA&t=37s
My intent is to release one part every week over the next ten weeks. I hope this gets some folks to break out the classic again!
Thanks for pointing out the link error, I have it fixed now.
“In defense of” is the title of the series of videos. As for point number one, its addressed in the first minute of the video.
(…and yes, that was intentionally troll ;) )
Good to hear from you Reaper.
I have this for Conquest of the Empire: https://www.mediafire.com/file/1hf6u38ni6680by/cote_map.jpg/file
I don’t have Shogun. =(
I feel strongly that the baseline game should use 2nd Edition rules configured with these optional rules:
Restricted attack (out of box rule)
Neutrals out of play (house rule)
Tech available on and after turn 4 (house rule)
Restricted attack is to prevent a catastrophic material imbalance that favors the allies. Neutrals out of play is to remove “Spanish Harlem”. Tech available on turn 4 is to prevent the USA tech spamming heavy bombers starting on the first turn AND ALSO to decrease the rate of games that go into 20+ turns.
As for bracketing, while I agree with @DoManMacgee, I feel strongly @gamerman01 should have full power to organize as he sees fit since he is assuming the burden of running the show.
@gamerman01 I have tied in with all of the gentlemen in the list. We are ready on your mark.
Is there an unmodified downloadable file of the Spring 1942 map? I know of Imperious Leader’s “Supreme” map but I was looking for an exact copy of the out-of-box map for download. Thanks!
Sorry for the delay guys. Here is a link to video #2:
I should get video #3 out this evening and next week I should get the first of my Turn 1 strat videos out (R1).
As to the game with DizzKneeLand33, I have decided to continue with that game just as soon as my video series is complete. I think this will make future videos more interesting in a developmental sense.
Enjoy! and thank you for the feedback…it is entirely welcome.

The “Find opponents here” page gets buried by idle conversation so posting this here:
I’m looking for AnA Anniversary '41 games. As many as I can get. You can pick the side, just no bid. OoB optional rules are all negotiable. PM me if interested. Many thanks
the first strategic video is up, Germany (part 6 of the series): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8t_hnN3D7c
Yes, we are playing with complexes - I’ll take this year to demonstrate why those are next on the chopping block ;)
That person holding the rules up in the camera is me. The supplementary document (FAQ from Larry Harris) I hold up is vetted in the same video with a link in the description. There is no mistake, in fact it is explicitly stated even more clearly in the 2nd edition rules on another page as I have since been shown (I’ll post the page and column as soon as I am able but if someone else gets to it first, please post it up).
I don’t know how many folks actually play with those rules and is part of the reason I made the video.
As stated in the video, this rarely comes up with the exception of the communal builds in which it can be extremely important.
Extra pieces would be on offer to replace those lost or damaged. I myself have had to order a number of new pieces to keep my copy up to par.
Thanks for your comment!
@mike64 to “play by forum” now you need to copy and paste the turn summary into the posting field of your thread and then attach the latest game file to the post.
The automatic post feature has been disabled for about a year now…
@Martin said in Invitational Classic 2nd edition:
I guess if there can be no additional factories, naval units can then also be produced in unfriendly sea zones. Otherwise Japan could be doomed.
We are playing with factories or Industrial complexes. There are four of them left after the initial setup and three AA guns that can be built by anyone. Industrial complexes are in play.
We will play with the out of box, optional rule of allowing naval units to be deployed in enemy occupied sea zones. This is an out of box optional rule and since this is intuitive for most players coming from other versions (and because I have never seen it be a factor in any game of Classic) I’ll just assert here and now that we will be using this optional rule as well and so newly purchased naval units can be deployed in enemy occupied sea zones.
I don’t think buying three AA guns as the Axis is much of a stunt as the Allies can win without buying a single industry as I am currently discovering thanks to some dedicated forum members.
Also, the 15 IPC it would cost simply to deny their potential use by the opposing side and basically finding no productive use for them on your own side would put you further behind the power curve, compounding the issue.
The issue of imbalance will be the topic of my first post-series video titled, “Breaking the Classic: How to win consistently as the Allies.”
Would someone be so kind as to direct me to a link of the World at War Map from Xeno, thanks!
Edit: *digital copy available for download
A special video for 1914 has just been posted. This video reviews the Revolution optional rule and the non-intuitive situations that result. Slay your opponents - watch this video.

*I consider this video the most important in the series.
