Hey everyone! Here are some photos of my G40 custom job. I built this to be relatable to all players and only added features to subtly enhance playability. Dress right dress and standardization were the order of the day.

@kwaspek104 @gamerman01 @VictoryFirst @DoManMacgee @Ragnell804 @Martin @elche
This is a new thread for the 2025 Classic tournament. I believe everything has been sorted out. What @Martin started last year has expanded with additional talent. You are all exceptionally talented and friendly players imo.
If there is any dispute let me or gamerman know and we will help get it resolved.
We’re playing
Classic, 2nd Edition with
Restricted Attack,
Can build in enemy occupied sea zone,
No Neutrals, and
tech turned on at Russia turn 4 to the end.
Sides are by agreement or bid as outlined by Gamerman.
Please report game results here.
If this tournament works out well (I feel strongly it will), I’ll open it up by advertising on Facebook and YouTube next year and give the G40 league a run for its money. Best of luck to you all. Have fun. Be cool.
Let’s push some plastic.
This will act as a “one stop shop” for anyone interested in my work regarding digital downloads of AnA boards:

Punchline: TripleA is the most efficient online platform on which to play Axis and Allies. This allows players to play more games with the added benefit of playing a variety of opponents. More games against different opponents means a far more diverse range of experience which makes the AnA player more lethal in all his future games…including those played face to face.
Optional Rules for balance
Experienced players sometimes find that it’s too easy for the Entente to win. If the Entente is winning too often, use some or all of the following changes:
The Russian Revolution rule is no longer considered optional.
USA starts with zero IPCs and is at war on the beginning of USA turn 5 (unless attacked first).
The invasion of neutral territories that did not start the game aligned is not permitted [Exception: Persia].
Dardanelles Rule: Though movement into SZ 20 is allowed, passage through SZ 20 is not unless you or a power from your side controls Constantinople. Amphibious assaults against Ankara and Mesopotamia is no longer permitted unless the attack originated from SZ 21 or if you or a power from your side controls Constantinople.
The boarder between SZ 17 and SZ 18 now exists from the boot heel of Naples to the Greece/Albania boarder.
Make the following setup adjustment for Italy. Rome and Piedmont should each have three infantry (not six) and two artillery.
*If the above changes are made and its still too easy for the Entente to win, agree (or bid) on the removal of an amount of Russian ARTILLERY from their at start setup (as of 03/08/2024, I recommend the removal of 6-8 Russian artillery - yes, the game appears to be THAT imbalanced).
A review of two older ‘third party’ variants for Axis and Allies that deserve more respect than they get: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsm4is72-sc
@Central-Powers-boss With all love and respect for folks who actually play the game, I feel strongly that if your opponent’s lost as the Entente and you guys were playing an out of box game, then they were extraordinarily unlucky or extraordinarily inexperienced or both.
I could be wrong, but I’ve played over 150 games of 1914 in the last three years against at least 15 different opponents and not only never lost as the Entente but never came close to losing. That doesn’t mean there isn’t something we all missed and of course I extend an open invitation to play as many games as you like that one or both of us might be better players for it.
My opening comments on this game as a player only (I helped with playtesting but can’t discuss that part). The intent here is to manage the expectations of new owners and to help those on the fence make a decision regarding purchasing this fine game:
The best and most functional versions of core Axis and Allies games for TripleA will be cataloged below. This work is primarily from @VictoryFirst but more may be on the way from other authors as well as VictoryFirst.
This thread will act as a living document and updated continually as more fixes to the various TripleA modules are completed.
Here is a youtube video that explains more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkgP1O3wQAs
Module installation instructions: You have to move the unzipped map to the “downloadedMaps” folder in the folder where you installed Triplea. Reboot the game and look for the title in the selection screen.

Just to nail this part down, I went ahead and pulled the exact stats for Egypt actually being captured by the Germans with an extra British infantry added in and its 35%:

You have to convert one tank to a fighter and select “Retreat when only air left”. This will ensure the calculator leaves one of the tanks alive along with the bomber resulting in an Egypt capture.
And if it helps, I have lost as the Allies even after holding Egypt on G1 (I’ve also won games after losing it on G1 but in that case, I feel experience won the day). And after reading your second post, I will say that when I make balance recommendations in the videos, they are very conservative relative to what I feel is the true game state. In other words, I’d rather the game remain imbalanced than go too far with too much for the weaker side. I might also make that more clear in a future video. Anyway, I hope that helps try to convince your group to adopt that second infantry into either Yunnan or Egypt - or even both for a total of three… or an additional bid of some kind.
@SuperbattleshipYamato said in WW1 1914 Balance Recommendation:
Huh.
While every game I played ended long after turn 5, I just thought that meant the historical outcome was a major fluke, with dice rolls really being in the Entente’s favor.
Still, 6 months still doesn’t really work…
No version of canon series axis and allies articulates how much time a turn represents. This is intentional.

Without knowing the experience levels of each of you in playing this version and to avoid any surprises, here is a list of non-intuitive “differences” when playing Classic compared to something like G40 or 1942. I bolded what I feel is the most critical of the bunch (at the bottom):
2) Column Rolling – In ALL combats, dice are rolled by individual column from lowest to highest. Casualties are applied BEFORE rolling the next column’s attack. (Page 18) This cannot be done through TripleA so we have to ignore this one.
During the COMBAT MOVEMENT PHASE, aircraft flying over a territory containing an enemy AA gun are fired upon as they fly over, even if they don’t end movement in that territory. (Page 13, right column)
*Newly purchased naval units are not allowed to be placed in sea zones containing enemy naval units. (Page 21, middle column)
If their original carrier was sunk, defending fighters may ONLY land on an island/island group or carrier in the same sea zone. Failure to do so results in elimination. (Page 15, left column)
Armor MAY “blitz” through a territory containing an AA gun or Industrial Complex. (Rules Clarification, last page, middle column)
a. AA guns still shoot at aircraft flying over their territory even after having been “blitzed” in this fashon. (Page 5, left column “combat is considered simultaneous”)
The Suez Canal can only be utilized if both Anglo-Egypt Sudan and Syria/Iraq are controlled by your side at the BEGINNING of your turn. (axisandallies.org, “the intent was always for the Suez to mimic the Panama Canal rules” -krieghund)
8) During amphibious assaults, no units AT ALL are allowed to retreat (this includes air units). Amphibious assaults are a “fight to the death” as per the Rules Clarification and the official FAQ. In my experience, the game affect of this is to make amphibious assaults against Germany by the western allies very risky.
*optional rule on page 31 removes this restriction
@DMcLaren Hey thanks! Only with that version. Anniversary got the same treatment (kept it completely original) and currently tapping away at 1914. But I know what you mean. Once the bug bites…
@folewnik as a small time scale modeler, I very much admire your work. You have exceptional attention to detail so I thank you very much for this compliment.
@Ghoster Thanks! And that’s awesome! I think you’ll really enjoy the experience. I’ve been asked this several times now so I’ll just post it here and on YouTube:
Russia - TS-62 NATO Brown
UK - TS-46 Light Sand
USA - TS-28 Olive Drab 2
Germany - TS-6 Matte Black
Australia - TS-66 IJN Gray
Italy - AS-22 Dark Earth
the rest were bottle paints shot from an airbrush:
France - XF-18 (tamiya)
China - Interior Green mixed with some yellow
Japan - Model Master’s Italian Red mixed with Rust from the same company
The Russia strategic video in my 1914 series is now posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRBnaOC4kZY
start that first video at the 5 minute mark. If you’re “new old stock” to Classic, I highly recommend watching all three. I’m not trying to plug my channel. Just trying to create “less blood on the battlefield” for anyone transitioning from other versions and is rusty.
I used only the out-of-box pieces from the original game. The intent was to retain the flavor of the original while ‘enhancing’ the playing experience as inoffensively as possible. To that end, all pieces were sanded, primed, and painted in a color as close to the original as could be done. There are no mold lines or flash on any of these pieces. Even the chips are original. Enjoy!
*Special shout-out to https://shop.x-raypad.com/ for such beautifully printed maps. Playing AnA on an over-sized mouse pad as opposed to some vinyl provides the superior playing experience.
