Hey Folks,
page 10 of the Pacific Rulebook (2nd Ed.) states that:
“If a Japanese industrial complex is built on a Chinese territory and that territory is later recaptured by the Chinese or liberated by another Allied power, the industrial complex is removed from the game.”
So far, so good. (And very funny as we’ve discovered during our last game! :-D )
But what happens to other facilities like axis build airfields or ports in such a case?

RE: Retreatposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
And remember that
a) you can’t retreat your ground forces from an amphibious attack if there are no other ground forces attacking via land.
b) in an amphibious attack your attached planes must at least fight one round of combat even if your transports with all your landing forces were sunk by the enemy. -
RE: Research & Developmentposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hey Folks,
you’re always good for a surprise! :-) I was sure that many of you play without R&D, but I never thought that so many of you (at least for the ones who participating in the poll) are doing this.
Anyway thanks to the replies!Btw - Young Grasshoper: Thanks for the idea of granting a free TechRoll to a nation that achieved one of your victory objectives! I think I will use this in our game this afternoon. :-)

CWO Marc: An interesting Project! Here are some publications that might help you with your research:

Hey Folks,
just for pure curiosity: Do you use the optional “Research & Development†rules in your games and why (or why not)?
Greetings,

CWO Marc:
Do you know any sources concerning this agreement besides this Wikipedia article – or the linked article “Axis power negotiations on the division of Asia during World War II” – and the references given there?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Argothair,
nice job. But you should divide the East Indies and Borneo into two Islands each – Java & Sumatra and Borneo & Celebes – and maybe transfer the income from the smaller pacific islands to them.

RE: Germany Taking India - Go for Pacific Win?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hi NoMercy,
i don’t think that the idea is “completely dump”. If Germany can guard the ‘Fortress Europe’ against UK, USA & the Russians, it seams like a nice idea to send a strong mobile force south against the British via Caucasus and Persia. In the MidEast there are waiting some NOs and an minor ally for you. And India might not be as heavily guarded as Moscow.
The greatest problems for the axis might be the long German supply line to the next own IC and the the ability of the IJN to keep the US-Navy at bay. -
RE: Pacific 1940 2ED or Europe 1940 2ED?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Hi Folks,
if I had to choose, I would always decide my self for the Pacific. I prefere the huge naval/air battles over the large clashes of tanks in Russia or the battle for the Atlantic. And with the scale of A&A, the engagements between the German Africa Corps and the British 8th Army are merely a sideshow.
Greetings,

@Cow:
It is mostly Turkey and Spain that dissuades axis from dowing neutrals,…
Don’t forget Sweden (6 Inf. & German NO).

RE: Soviet House Rulesposted in House Rules
CWO Marc: Thanks’ for the historical context! Seems correct to me. As far as it came to my knowledge, the only other case of US personal and material “captured” by the Soviets was in 1942 when a B-25 participating in the ‘Doolittle-Raid’ was interned after their forced landing in the USSR.
Frederick II: Our group is using these rules for all Versions. (1942-1st & 2nd Ed., Europe-1999Ed., 1940)
For us these rules are a nice way to simulate the “separate” war the Russians and the Western Allies fought against the European Axis powers. Especially when I remember – with a certain degree of shudder – the hordes of allied fighters stored in Moscow to prevent a Russian surrender in the “classic” game of 1984.

Do they get the infantry in South America?
I would say yes; at least this is how I understand it. The big question for me is: Do you mean the whole continent or just Brazil?
Anyway, a nice suggestion.

Soviet House Rulesposted in House Rules
Hey Folks,
Here are a couple of house rules concerning the U.S.S.R. I’ve “borrowed†them from several sources (A&A-Europe, A&A-Fan-based-Homepages, etc.). Any comments?Soviet Union
Throughout the war, the Soviet Union operated with a great degree of independence from its western Allies. U.S. and British equipment on Soviet soil was often controlled by Russians troops. This is simulated in the game as follows:
Lend & Lease: After his noncombat movement phase, the Soviet player checks for any allied units that are currently in territories that contain a Soviet home industrial complex. He may choose to replace these units with the Soviet equivalent. Although the Soviet player should discuss this maneuver with his Allies, he doesn’t have to. Even if the Soviet player moves these units to allied territories, they remain Soviet units for the remainder of the game. Note: Of course, allied infantrymen were not brain-washed into becoming Russians but, rather, Allied equipment and weapons were used to equip Russian soldiers.
Stalinist Xenophobia: Besides from “Lend & Leaseâ€, no Allied units can ever be based in any territory controlled by the U.S.S.R., nor may they traverse Soviet territory or airspace.
Bolshevization of liberated areas: Any allied territory liberated by the Soviet Union is considered Soviet territory. The only way for such territory to revert to control of the original owner is if it is retaken by an Axis power and then re-liberated by the western allies. -
RE: Question on aircraft carrier?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hi Vanerost,
right now I have no A&A map at hand, but if the Caroline Islands are not farther away from the Philippine Islands than two sea zones (what I assume) the move should be legal.
1. (Combat Move A) - Your carrier takes his two moves to sail to the SZ surrounding the Philippine Islands.
2. (Combat Move B) - Your fighters take off from the SZ surrounding the Caroline Islands, use two moves to fly to the SZ surrounding the Philippine Islands and a third enter the Philippines.
3. (Noncombat Move) - If your planes and the carrier survive the Combat Phase, the fighters use their fourth move to leave the Philippines, enter the surrounding SZ and land on the carrier. -
RE: Mechinized infantry uglyposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
For my taste the Italian and Russian mechanized (or better “motorizedâ€) infantry as well as the Priest are ugly!
Since I already own A&A Classic (1984), Pacific (2000), Europe (1999) & 1942 (1st Ed.), I’ve never bought A&A1940. I simply got myself the board, some miniatures for ANZAC & Italy and some more cruisers. There was definitely no need for more US, UK, Jap, Ger & Rs units. – Especially no need for more useless Russian ships! :-)Concerning a historical perspective, the only real fully motorized armies were those of the US and the UK. So our gaming group is pleased with the idea that the small portion of motorized units are part of the tanks.
The development of „mechanized infantry“ via R&D enables you to accompany each tank with one regular infantry (this represents a greater portion of mech. or mot. units in comparison to your regular inf.) -

Good summary aequitas et veritas!
Follow this instructions and you end in a great Position. 8-)
In one of our last games Italy got 30 IPC’s (despite a devastating raid on Taranto and the fleet at Malta on UK1).
