    • RE: Thunda down under A&A game map

I have try to make the territories more realistic but for some territories they just had to be split like Western australia otherwise it would be to large. Some territories have been named.

Sea zones will be the next addition.

For powers i believe it should be East/West Aus and NZ so that NZ won’t be killed by a massive Australia and also it shouldn’t be south and north NZ as one player will be elimanted really quickly and they won’t have the IPC levels to match Aus

I think you should add cavalry because the British had a cavalry division at the start of the war. Also the ANZAC’s had cavalry divisions even though the did not use them in Gallopoli and will you include rules about terrain such as the hills in turkey that meant the ANZAC infantry became fodder. Also will there be sea units used for transportation? You could also create a tech that meant Art could fire poison rounds that decreased Inf def and also killed halve of Inf stack.

The axis should focus on taking all Vc’s except London, Washington, Moscow and San Francisco to win.

No the VC’s are real but to make more territories i split it up.

I tried to get away from the Japan idea because of the WWII ideas. An ANZAC battle between Aus and NZ was what i wanted.

New map with straits between North and South islands of New Zealand and the one between Tasmania and Victoria

I might change the territories up and add papau new guinea. I might add the cook islands and other pacfic islands like Tong, Fiji  etc.

I won’t add countries to close to asia as i’m trying to keep away from asia as there is already A&A pacific new map coming soon.

    • RE: My Impression of the Game So Far

Yes but i forgot about that so you would keep enough to rebuild it or enough to build 3 fighters which gives you two hits out of three.

If you rebuilt t what would you build?

      3 figh 50 ipc
      3 arm 38 ipc

      Shouldn’t rebuild it

      maybe

      1 arm, 2 fig 26 ipc
11 def value so nearly two hits

Van you take pictures of the units and say what each one is please.

I notice something like an AA Half truck and some of the planes looked different than the A&A units. Also can you explain the points system.
      Thanks

      @mikecool70:

Well, what I meant by #4 in my original post is that since UK won’t lose much of its income unless Africa is taken out, it will probably be best for Italy, with the help of Germany and/or Japan, to try to actually take it out.  Otherwise, you are looking at a UK that can transport around 10 infantry into Russia every turn, at least once they get 5 transports and enough surface fleet to protect it.  That doesn’t even take into consideration what the USA is bringing in.

Ok i understand i thought you meant that the loss of Africa wouldn’t matter much.
      @calvinhobbesliker:

The Axis also want South Africa, and if South African forces activate the 4 inf, that will help retake Africa. In addition, the US can take over South America for 6 more ipc’s and 8? more inf. The US/UK can also take Spain and Portugal for 3 ipc’s and 8 inf near France.

J3 India Crush won’t happen in Global because Indian DD’s can block it, Japan usually won’t attack J1, and Brits can withdraw to West India to avoid getting killed by planes and then recapture India

Italy should build a defence wall at Cairo to stop the South African counter.

Also with the J3 india crush rid the British DD’s on J3 and invade India on J4. Hold IPC’S in reserve to build units in India after it has been captured.

    • RE: Thunda down under A&A game map

Map improved again not that good (Compared to Holden’s maps) has Territory names, Seazones, Vc names  and IPC values.

      There is 10 VC’s

You need 30 points to win

You gain 1 point per VC held per turn
      1 point per territory captured
1 point per capital ship sunk

      Set Up

Note territories without names are named after the VC that is in them

      Western Australia (Yellow)

      Starting IC’S 25

Western Australia: 3 INF, 1 ARM, 1 ART, IC, AA and 1 FIGHTER
      South Western Australia: 3 INF
      North Western Australia: 3 INF
Alice springs: 5 INF, 2 ART
Northen Territory: 3 INF, 2 Art, 1 ARM, AA and 1 FIGHTER
South Australia: 3 INF, 2 ARM, AA, IC and 1 FIGHTER

      Eastern Australia (Red)

      Starting IC’S 31

Gold Coast: AA, IC, 1 FIGHTER, 3 INF and 1 ARM
      Queensland: 5 INF
Sydeny: AA, IC, 3 INF, 3ARM, 3 ART and 1 FIGHTER
      New South Whales: 5 INF
Victoria: AA, IC, 3 INF, 2 ART, 2 ARM and 1 FIGHTER
      Tasmania: 4 INF

      New Zealand (Green)

      Starting IC’S 20

      Auckland: IC, AA 5 INF, 2ART, 3ARM, 2 Fighter
Wellington: AA, 5 INF, 2 ART, 1 ARM and 1 FIGHTER
      Canterbury: IC,AA 5 INF, 3 ART and 1 FIGHTER
      Otago: 5 INF, 2 ART

Units that can’t be bought are:

      Tactical Bombers
      Heavy Bombers
      Mech Inf
      Cruisers

Sea Unit placements to come soon

This has not been play tested

New Zealand start weak economically but strong military
W Australia is half n half
E Australia strong economy weak military

      No alliances can be formed
      No capitals

    • RE: My Next Map Project

How is the map doing anyway? I thought Stalingrad would be cool but I’m interested in the result of the meditarrian map.

I’m also trying to  create a game using A&A pieces in Australia and New Zealand called Thunda down unda. Ideas and critiscims are welcome.

    • Thunda down under A&A game map

I got the idea from Holden who created flashpoint middle east.

I decided rather than re-creating a WWII battle i would use the Pacific as a battle field.
The game uses Australia and New Zealand as the islands were battle takes place.

      Below is the map

      Grey dots represent VC’s
Blue dots are territories created from the split of a existing island/territory I.E new zealand’s islands have been split in to two parts.

    • RE: My Impression of the Game So Far

Strict neutral invading is a good idea for the Axis around the middle east as it will connect them together with the invetable J3 India crush and followed up by a J4 attack on west india and then unite around africa and the Suez canal.

#4 on the original post i don’t agree Africa will be all that important there is only 1 territory in there the Axis will want and this is Egypt because of Cairo and the Suez Canal so the Italian fleet can expand and maybe work on stealing all the African IPC’s. Britain should be more worried about the Eastern front. Even though there is a large amount of territories between Moscow and the Germans because they should worry about the fall of Stalingrad and Leningrad so the British should support the Soviets after the threat of Sealion has passed (G2).

    • RE: New Players Have Much More to Learn Than When I Started

Games with minor powers are the best to bring new players into because they won’t have a large effect on the outcome. If a new player played global they should play ANZAC because they probably won’t effect the result a lot as they only have 1 VC. A new player shouldn’t play the Axis in global because the axis only have three powers and need experienced players to have a good game. Playing a major ally power shouldn’t be considered as they are the same as the Axis powers and need to be played by an experienced players. France shouldn’t be considered as their capital will be captured on G1 and being defeated quickly wouldn’t be good for a new player and may turn them of A&A forever. China shouldn’t be considered as they don’t follow the normal placement rules and can only buy 1 type of unit (Two with control of Burma road). Anzac follow normal placement rules, won’t be eliminated quickly and won’t have a major effect on the outcome they also have the need for all three types of unit to be successful and is probably the best choice for a beginner. If you don’t have enough players so the beginner can play just one power give them all the minor powers or maybe 2 minor and 1 major(US probably gives the beginner greatest room for error as their VC’s are quite safe and have a large income so they can use most units and learn the rules).

      Got a few more
Fritz X bomb (Germany) 5 points
Attack Britain with the rockets tech

United we stand (U.S and U.K) 10 points each
      Preform a joint strike
This would only happen if there was a joint strike NA

All fail the commonwealth (Axis) 25 point
Control both British capitals at the end of turn three
25 points for the powers that captured the territories

Resistance what resistance (Germany) 10 points
Capture all three of the French home territories in Europe

    • Global '40 Medals

As a way to improve Global '40 you could implement medals for attacking and defending.

I have tried this with revised edition with a medal for the top attacker and defender.

Since there is 9 powers(6 major and three minor) rather than 1 winner of the medal you could do top three (Two major and 1 minor)

      i.e.

      Major
      1st Soviet
      2nd German
      3rd Us
      4th UK
      5th Italy
      6th Japan

      Minor
      1st ANZAC
      2nd China
      3rd French

      So medals
      1st Soviet
      2nd German
      3rd ANZAC

I suggested 1 minor power so the major powers don’t monopolise the medals

Medals would be decided on points worked out with the following formula

      Att points

Casualty(Def Value) divided by Attacker(Att Value)

      examples:

      Inf v Inf

      2 divided by 1 = 2 points

      Tank v Bomber

      3 divided by 4 = 3 quarters

For capital ships divide points by half

      example

      Battleship v Sub

      4 divided by 2 = 2 divided by 2 = 1 point

Def points is the same but in reverse

Casualty (Att value) divided by Defender (Def value)

Same rules apply for capital ships

For winning medals you get a certain number of units chosen from a list

      I.E.

      1st:

      1 BS or Bomb
2 Dest, Tank, Ac, tact bomber, cruiser or fighter
      1 AC and 1 fighter
      3 Mech inf, art, sub
      6 inf

      2nd

2 Dest, Tank, Ac, tact bomber, cruiser or fighter
      1 AC and 1 fighter
      3 Mech inf, art, sub
      6 inf

      3rd

      3 Mech inf, art, sub
      6 inf

Other medal ideas raiding (Bombing damage = points)
      Reward

1st: Points divided  by 3 = IPC gain
2nd: Points divided  by 4 = IPC gain
      3rd : Points divided  by 5 = IPC gain

      Other ideas or improvments welcome

I’m working on medals to print and use
