    • RE: Elite Infantry & Paratroopers

      @gen-manstein Hi Manstein,

That is interesting - especially with the use of D12. (We use D6).

How does your Paratrooper unit move - and how many spaces? Is there any limit to number purchased?

Is your play group made up of A&A veterans?

I believe you have lots of challenge and fun, playing with those rules.

Concerning Elite Infantry & Paratrooper units: Only the Nations mentioned in these two rules can purchase them. ANZAC has neither.

We also have Air Transport Units. I will post these rules this week.

Also, I will soon post “Cost Of All Units” - basic part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

This gives an insight of all units that is part of Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion- however each unit is only shown by profile. It is necessary to study the rules carefully to get a complete picture of fighting abilities etc.

      @imperious-leader Hi IL,

      Thanks for your comment.

We started play testing a Paratrooper rule 6-7 years ago similar to your description.

Since then the rule has seen numerous changes. One rule even suggested that you should purchase an Airlift Token at a cost of 1 IPC for each Paratrooper you needed to airlift.

But as various Paratrooper rules were play tested over the years, the final version had to be accessible in terms of price, easy to remember - and fun to play.

This Paratrooper rule is the final outcome.

      An example:
Our game experience shows that even though Germany can purchase 8 Paratrooper units, this is quite rarely the case.
Since the amount of other specialized combat units are numerous - and needed at the front (Panzer Grenadier units, Waffen-SS units etc.) Germany have a hard time producing Paratrooper units on a massive scale.

Also, when fighting on at least 3 fronts, the German Paratroopers would most often be dispersed - and mostly used in small-scale surprise attacks, or used to reinforce units at the frontline, cut-off units on The Eastern Front etc.

The same scenario mostly applies to Allied Paratrooper units.

I hope that you and your play group will play test our rules, once I am able to release the complete Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

    • RE: Elite Infantry & Paratroopers

      @gen-manstein Hi Manstein,

Concerning the Paratrooper unit, our motives were to reflect the fighting abilities of these WWII elite units - and still keep the Paratrooper unit reasonably accesible in terms of price (4 IPC).

Looking back at the US 82nd & 101st Airborne Division, German 1st. Fallschirmjäger Division and the British 1st. Airbone Division they all fought with distinction against all odds.

During The Battle of Monte Cassino the German 1st. Fallschirmjäger Division fought bravely - but in the end the few surviving soldiers succumbed to the continuous pressure from Allied Armies.

Also, during Operation Market Garden i 1944, The Allied Paratrooper Divisions fought heroically against impossible odds - but in the end the survivors were either withdrawn or captured.

So, we decided to reflect this heroisme and elite status by having a Paratrooper unit defending at “3” - during the first round of combat only - and then at “2” in all other rounds of combat.

Also, in this way the play balance was not tipped.

The number of Paratrooper units that each of the Major Powers can have on the game board is limited to a certain number.

By doing so, this rule should combine play balance as well as inspire History enthusiasts.

    • Elite Infantry & Paratroopers

These rules are part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

The Elite Infantry unit is extremely powerfull in an attack when combined with artillery.

The Paratrooper unit has the ability to penetrate deep into the enemy hinterland to make a surprise attack (symbolized by increased first strike attack factor) - or to cut off enemy Strategic Rail Movement, etc.

Both units are a must have on the game board.

    • RE: US Marines & British Commandos

      Hi Manstein,

There are no restrictions to where the US Marines can fight. It is up to the US player to decide where these units are most needed.

Designing this rule, we had two major considerations:

      1. With the game player in mind: the rule must be balanced and easy to use.
      2. With the History enthusiast in mind: it seemed most realistic to let the “Generals” navigate to the conditions of the fighting, as during real combat.

It would make sense to let regular infantry take over any position, once the US Marines have conquered a territory.

Since the US player can have a maximum of 12 US Marine units on the game board at any given time, this might be worth considering.

      Thanks for your comment:+1:

These rules are part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

In the game, during the fierce fighting in The Pacific, the Imperial Japanese Army will most likely have to face the elite of the US Army - the US Marines.

US Marines have a decisive attack ability when supported by artillery.

In the same way, British Commandos are hard hitting combat units, especially when used in raids against Fortress Europe.

    • RE: German Takeover of Italy

      @witt Hi Witt,

We started play testing this rule 3 years ago - and it has seen many changes, during approximately 80-90 games.

This is the final outcome. And the play balance seems to be somewhat secured.

Remember, this rule is part of the entire Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion so when this rule is held up against the advantages that The Allies are granted - it all makes better sense.

When this rule comes into play (Late 1943 - round 8 - at the earliest), The Allies (especially USA) are now producing troops, sea units and air units on a massive scale.

For The Axis to be able to implement the Takeover no Axis units are on the African continent - and the Italian Navy (if any) is confined to The Mediterranian Ocean. In other words - Africa is lost - and it would take a massive effort for Germany to conquer even North Africa at this time.

Our game experience with this rule (supplemented by all rules in the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion) shows, that when Germany takes over Italy, The Allies most often have brought the German advance into Russia close to a stand still.

The German Take Over og Italy gives the German troops a better chance to consolidate their gains in Western Europe - at least for some time - and thereby being able to stabilize The Eastern Front.

I hope this gives some insight - at least for now. By the end of this month, I expect to be able to release the entire Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion version 1. We are working on the last editing.

When released, I hope you and your play group will be inspired, and play with these rules to gain experience - and fun as well.

I really appreciate questions and feedback.

This is an excerpt from the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion, that describes how Germany can take over Italy.

Naturally, as this scenario shows, the rule is accessible only when certain terms are met.

    • Waffen-SS Army

For use with Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

This is an example of how to form a German Waffen-SS Army.

      In this example it is the 1st Waffen-SS Army which includes 1 Waffen-SS Infantry unit + 1 Waffen-SS Panzergrenadier unit + 1 Waffen-SS Panzer unit + 1 Waffen-SS Oberst-Gruppenführer unit.

The formation of a Waffen-SS Army can have multiple variations.

Any type of Waffen-SS unit can be part of a Waffen-SS Army - even Waffen-SS Paratrooper units.

A Waffen-SS Army consists of 3 Waffen-SS units + 1 Waffen-SS Oberst-Gruppenführer unit. (All unit profiles are explained in detail in Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion).

The Waffen-SS Army contains 4 units - as mentioned above - but since these units are now combined into an Army, the total dice rolls for this Army is 6 in each round of combat for as long as the Waffen-SS Army is intact (no combat losses).

      @barnee Hi Barnee,

Some players in our play groups have used online TripleA since september 2020.

We have created a House Rules Basic Expansion - and I believe these rules are implemented in TripleA online.

These rules include a limited amount of units and rules selected from the entire Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E House Rules Expansion.

I dont play online myself (unfortunately) - the only reason being that the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E House Rules Expansion is not implemented in TripleA online. If - and when - that happends, I will definitely play online.

Thanks for your votes. I truly appreciate it:+1:

    • German Panzer Army

For use with Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion:

This is an example of a German Panzer Army (1st. Panzer Army). To display the Panzer General Unit, we use a Tiger I. The other 5 panzer units in the Panzer Army are Panther tanks.

The German Panzer Army is identical to a US Tank Army, Soviet Tank Army and UK Tank Army.

The combat strength of a Panzer Army (or Tank Army) is 10 dice rolls in each round of combat - for as long as the Panzer Army is intact (no combat losses).

Detailed information about a Panzer Army is available in the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E House Rules Expansion.

    • Soviet Army Corps

Here is an example of the formation of a Soviet Army Corps, for use with Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E: House Rules Expansion.

A Soviet Army Corps consists of 3 land based combat units + 1 Soviet Commissar unit.

The Soviet Army Corps is placed next to the game board - at the Army Board - and a marker that refers to this Army is placed in the territory where the Soviet Army Corp is present.

In this way, the units within the Soviet Army Corps is easily distinguished from other units in that territory.

Also, when moving - either during Combat Movement or Non-Combat Movement - you only have to move the marker - and thereby you save time and avoids mixing with other units.Soviet Army Corps.JPG

    • Axis & Allies Global 1940 2nd. House Rules Expansion

Inspired by Larry Harris’ advice concerning House Rules, we have developed an Expanded set of House Rules: “EXPANSION RULES for use with Axis & Allies Global 1940”.
We have attached a short introduction to this post.

All Axis & Allies players using House Rules know, that from the moment you get an idea to a certain House Rule - and until that House Rule is tested multiple times - to outcome might be somewhat different than originally intended.

Nonetheless, you know when you’ve got it right. When that House Rule is implemented in the game - and it works - there is no going back.

We, the Danish Axis & Allies Community, would truly appreciate feedback and comments from the entire Axis & Allies community on our House Rules Expansion.

Please note: the attached file to this post is only a short introduction. There is more to come…much more.

      Best regards

      Re: [Painted pieces](Expansion rules)

      Hi,

      Thanks for all comments.

We started painting the game pieces simply to get a better overview during the intense battles that take place - especially when playing G40.

Our aircraft carriers are mounted with a magnetic tape on the flight deck, as are all fighter and fighter bomber units at the center of the undercarriage.

All panzer units, armored units, trucks (scale 1:285) and some fighters and bombers (scale 1:600) are made of pewter. This makes the casting extremly detailed.

Some infantry units such as the Waffen-SS Obersturmbanführer unit and
Waffen-SS Fallschirmjäger unit are from various producers (scale 1:72).

We have our next A&A Global 1940 Tournament in mid April 2020 - lasting for three days. This is the last tournament in the season October 2019 - April 2020. Next season starts up in October 2020.

We are inspired by the Live TV streaming that some of you use. If possible we will try to copy this procedure.

Otherwise we will take pictures of each round. This should give an impression of how to use the Expansion rules - especially the major battles that include the use of entire panzer armies, Soviet Army Corps, Waffen-SS Armies, paratroopers and other hard hitting elite units.

We can recommend that you try to use the Expansion rules - step by step.

We will of course answer any questions concerning rules, use of units and eventually over all strategies.

The famous battles and plans of WWII are great fun to re-construct - as are the options to change the course of History.

      Excample with G40:
During our last tournament the Germans had planned Operation Typhoon. As the German units on The Eastern Front fought their way through the heavily defended Soviet positions, the way to Moscow was marked by scorched earth tactics as the Soviets destroyed their factories in Leningrad and Ukraine.
In round Early 1943 the German Frontline units were dug in outside Moscow - leaving the Russians no chance of pushing back the enemy.
Moscow was heavily defended with elite Guard infantry units, Soviet Army Corps and two complete Tank Armies.
The Germans launched a few minor offensives in the area to try and encircle Moscow - but the Russians managed to keep a corridor open to the east so the retreating Soviet forces from Siberia could enter and reinforce the defence of the Soviet Capital.

It was impressive to watch the entire Eastern Front with all the Waffen-SS units, Panzer Armies and Wehrmacht units opposing the massive and stubborn Soviet defences.

All I can say is: try it !
