    • RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

      @nolimit

The Style/Font is Times New Roman with shadow effect. Very simple.

In 1993 we started working on the House Rules Expansion - we bought all 3 expansions from Gamers Paradise - as well as several other variants for use with A&A Classic. So, yes - back then, we found some inspiration from Phillip Schwartzer & his play group - they did a great job. We wanted to show our gratitude by reviving some of these recognizable symbols in our introduction.

It is gratifying to see that it worked:+1:

As new A&A variants were released, the need for modified house rules increased. This was a big challenge - and it brought us tons of fun - and took countless amount of hours…

    • Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion

This is the release of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion - also known as G40 HRE.

Included are Full Color Markers to be used as combat units etc. in case you don’t have eligible playing pieces. These should be printed and cut out for use.

Also included are the Army Boards & Markers used for displaying the various types of armies that you can create during the game.

In other words: the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion includes everything you need in order to play your Axis & Allies game with these rules.

I sincerely hope that the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion will bring inspiration - and tons of fun - to the Axis & Allies Community.

      Note 1:
Players might find inspiration - and help - using the Strategy Guide Global 1940 (see thread).

      Note 2:
Concerning the bidding system (see pg. 58):

The bid IPC that any player collects from the bank can be used as described on pg. 58.

      Exception:
Any units that can only be produced in a Capital (such as Mines, Paratrooper unit, Waffen-SS unit etc.) must be still be produced in a Capital.

      Example:
The Allies collect 8 bid IPC from the bank. The Allies players decide that the Soviet Union gets these 8 IPC.

The Soviet player purchases 8 Mines - and must then place them in Moscow (Russia).

      Important:
During the game we advice all players to use the G40 IPC Tracking Chart (attached below).
This is an important tool to register the economic situation during the game.
      G40 IPC Tracking Chart A4, 2 pcs.pdf

      Note 3:
Here below we have attached some additional sets of rules, like Combat Engineer, Fighter Ace, Naval Mines etc.
These additional rules are Optional Rules.

We advice all players to use those additional Optional Rules only when you have gained solid experience with the Optional Rules included in the Revised Rulebook.

      Note 4:
The No. 39 Optional Expansion Rule is the Global 1939 Expansion.

    • RE: G40 Carrier Based Fighter Units

      @crsluggo

      Thanks for your comment:+1:

The limitations concerning US and Japanese Carrier Based Fighter Units is based on 3 grounds:

      1. Players now have access to cheaper air units that are much needed due to the increased IPC values and number of combat units in the Pacific Theatre.
      2. Limitations in numbers, movement and landing options challenges the players in considering when to purchase regular fighter units instead of carrier based fighter units.
      3. When sea battle occurs, players now face crucial decisions whether or not to let their Carriers take a damage hit - considering carrier based fighters limitations in movement and landing options.

Right from the initial play testing the carrier based fighter units were designed to support Naval Combat and “Island Jumping” assault troops. We play tested several options in performance and production numbers. As the number of other specialized combat units gradually increased during the years of play testing, the rule now described is the final outcome.

When you play Axis & Allies Global 1940 with the complete G40 House Rules Expansion, of course you’ll get a much clearer picture of how all mechanisms work. And hopefully have tons of fun as well.

I would appreciate feedback when you play test the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion - and if you suggest something needs adjustment I would be happy to discuss it.

The overall goal is to learn more, find challenge - and have fun. All at the same time.

You’re right about carrier based fighters in The Atlantic.

As you’ll discover when we release the complete Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion rulebook these units are represented: UK Supermarine Seafire and German Me109T.

    • G40 Panzer Army Formation & Combat

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

To increase the striking force of Tank units, they must be organized into an Army - the Panzer Army.

This rule shows how to organize such an Army - how it fights - and ultimately what strength it represents.

Though limited in numbers (due to Play Balance as well as Historical Accuracy) the Panzer Armies are the single most hard hitting combination of units anywhere on the game board.

Still, the Panzer Army should not fight on its own - it should be part of a larger force and serve as the backbone - for as long as possible.

As you’ll discover, the Panzer Army Formation has multiple purposes and options - both in the Strategic Offensive role as well as during defensive combat etc.

    • G40 Capital Warship Damage and Super Heavy Battleship

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

Naval Task Forces at sea brought with them Support & Supply Ships - in order to perform their operations - and make necessary repairs without depending on a Port.

This is reflected in the Capital Warship Damage rule.

The largest Battleships ever built, were limited in numbers - but extremely powerfull.
This is reflected in the Super Heavy Battleship rule.

    • G40 Pacific Increased Ship Building

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

The increased IPC values in the Pacific Theatre (which reflects both strategic importance as well as oil resources - see Topic that describes the Expanded Pacific Theatre) makes this Battlefield crucial for both sides - in order to turn the tide of War to their own favor.

The Increased Ship Building rule helps both sides to perform major offensives and create multiple Naval Task Forces.

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

During the early stages of the German Strategic Operation Barbarossa vast amounts of Red Army soldiers were captured or annihilated.

The Red Army Conscription rule reflects the seemingly inexhaustible pool of soldiers - that eventually halted the Germans on the doorstep to Moscow.

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

As the number of accessible new combat units has increased significantly (see post: “Cost Of All Units”) there is a need for increased production capacity.

The Heavy Industry rule provides all players with a possibility to increase production at their original industrial complexes that exist from
      Early 1940 (game start).

    • RE: US Marines & British Commandos

      @crsluggo Hi crsluggo,

When British Commandos are supported by artillery in an attack, they attack at “3” - and the artillery at “2” as usual.

After the attack, any surviving Commandos operate under regular infantry rules - but they are still Commandos.

So, during any future attack they (again) attack at “3” - when supported by artillery. Otherwise they attack at “1” as regular infantry - even though they are Commandos.

In other words; the artillery unit is the key.

The same rule applies to US Marines.

Please note: German Waffen-SS infantry units have similar qualities when supported by Waffen-SS Artillery.

    • G40 Strategic Rail Movement

This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

This rule allows players to move a specific number of land combat units in order to reinforce front line units, build up forces for future offensives or simply as decoy to confuse the enemy, etc.

Paratroopers and Soviet Partisans can both become handy in order to disrupt enemy Strategic Rail Movement.

The fighting in The Pacific Theatre now has a new dimension. “Island Jumping” is a crucial part of the Total Economy for both sides.

As part of the intense fighting in The Pacific, the Increased Ship Building rule is also implemented (soon to be posted at this site).
