      Sure, here you go, although I haven’t set up any of the math; it was made for printing off and recording with a pen.

    • RE: Italy a bad design

      @Blitz:

      I’m not sure you get it. The UK needs nothing more than their starting boats in adjacent areas to kill Italian fleet. This did nothing detrimental to India. If anything, it allowed UK to keep suez open and get more men towards India since Africa isn’t being contested. Italy was made irrelevant in round 1. There is no reason for the UK not to do it.

      I’m right there with you Blitz and Model. Sigh.

      UK buys one Minor IC and 1 transport + whatever else it wants…

      The only thing Germany can do to prevent UK from crippling the Italian Navy is to try and hit the Aircraft Carrier off of Gibraltar. To do this the maximum that can reach is 2 subs against 1 destroyer, 1 Aircraft Carrier and one Tac Bomber. The AC can absorb a hit which will be repaired by the Gibraltar naval base at the beginning of its turn, so that’s no big deal. If that happens the TB can land in Gibraltar. In fact, the UK player would prefer to take one hit on the Carrier so that the plane can land in Gibraltar which has an Air Base. It is highly unlikely that the sub will hit anything. At best it might get the Destroyer.

      So Italy has 1 Battleship, 1 Cruiser and 1 transport in SZ 95. The UK hits that with 1 destroyer (probably), 1 Aircraft Carrier(repaired and can absorb 2 hits), the TB and either 1 fighter from England (if the TB starts on the carrier) or 2 fighters from England (if the AC took a German hit and the TB landed in Gibraltar, increasing it’s range so it can land in Malta, freeing up a space for another fighter on the carrier.) In short, that Italian fleet SZ95 is TOAST. And there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

      Who cares that the UK commitment to the Med is going to get smeared by German planes. The point is that now Italy’s Navy consists of 1 Cruiser, 1 Destroyer, and 1 transport and has an income of, wait for it, 10 IPCs, which isn’t even enough to get a carrier.

      Pause.

      Now in Egypt, the UK has a convenient little buffer zone with Alexandria, allowing them to fall back and build a minor IC in Egypt. Turn 2 and every turn after there’s three feet on the ground. If the UK player then also drops a transport in South Africa, he can start a two unit per turn shuffle of troops to Egypt, every turn. That’s 5 units per turn! With Italy’s one transport, hell, even if they manage two transports, they just can’t get enough feet on the ground to keep pace with the UK in Egypt. Egypt is the key to Africa (thanks Sahara) and Egypt is never under any serious threat from the Axis, so Africa is never under any serious threat from the Axis. Once the UK has Egypt in it’s stone cold death grip, it can shift it’s attention across the Indian ocean, sending help to India and making Japan’s life a little more difficult.

      Is the whole game broken? You’re right, probably too early to know, but it sure seems broken. Kind of how we looked at Pacific 1940 set-up pictures and said “wow, that’s a butt-load of planes.” And looked where that ended up. Any experienced player will recognize a gaping hole when they see one. And the UK attack turn 1 on SZ 95 is a Grand Canyon sized gaping hole.

      @miamibeach:

      The UK Gibraltar fleet attacking the Italians in SZ95 is a mistake.  It can only work out ok for the Allies if the German player is inexperienced.  Please, use your imagination before you decide you are a perfect player and cant figure this one out.

    • Japan Attacks USSR Question

      If Japan attacks USSR turn 1, does that bring Germany and USSR into war?

      If Japan attacks USA turn 1, and Germany/Italy did not attack the USSR turn 1, can USA land planes in USSR turn 1?

      GB attacking Italy Fleet turn 1 with AC, Destroyer, Fighter and TB is a no brainer. Build a small IC in Egypt that same turn and the Med./Africa conflict is over…

      You can claim I’m being premature, but I know a game flaw when I see one…

      All SZs adjacent to territories that contain naval bases get the benefit of the naval base (assuming it is friendly and whatnot).

      So… push out in both directions.

    • Minor IC in W. India

      I don’t think the UK can spare the IPCs, but…

      Can UK build a minor IC in W. India, use European theater monies to build land units there, and then walk them east to slow Japan?

      If so, this might be a viable strategy to hold off Japan until the cavalry come.

    • RE: General AA question

      @WILD:

      Another one is say you are taking a coastal tt. You wanted to bring in more units by transport but there was an enemy ship blocking your way so you could not do an amphib assault w/orig attack. You do the navy battle, now in noncombat the path is clear, so you can transport your other units in now to the tt you just took. Might be more useful in 1940 games w/NB allowing ships to move 3 sz. There seems to be a lot of cock blocking in the Pacific.

      I think your first situation is correct but I’m having a hard time understanding the benefit of the second situation, unless I’m misreading it. If you are engaging in combat in the sea zone and the coastal territory (with the SZ the only access point to the territory), why wouldn’t you just bring the transport along with the naval attack to assist in capturing the territory?

      The only thing that I can think of that would make this useful is if the naval battle isn’t certain and there are additional units attacking the territory by land that would make that battle certain. Like if you have one enemy destroyer and you only attack it with one fighter, and the territory is empty, and all you have to do is walk a guy in by land from an adjacent territory. In this situation you don’t want to risk your transport getting shot at if his destroyer hits and your fighter misses, so you wait to make sure the destroyer is hit and then move the transport in to drop off the reinforcements in the newly captured territory.

      @dinosaur:

      The question should be asked though; why would you ever want to do it that way?

      I don’t think it is something that is done often; in general you’ll want win each battle convincingly which requires all the units that can reach, but I think there are quite a few subtle situations where this is very important.

      So let me get this straight, in sea battles, you can kill an enemy blocker ship (destroyer) in the combat phase and move your fleet past that SZ into the next SZ in the non-combat phase assuming that none of your fleet is engaging in a combat move. Is this correct? If so this really changes things for me in Pacific…

      Dylan, is misspelling they’re/their and you’re/your some kind of gimmick?

    • RE: Axis and Allies Money!!

      @cressman8064:

      I hate using money, way too many mistakes, you have to spend time counting it to see how much you have and have 4 separate piles if your playing solo with the allies. I am glad to see the cheap paper money gone. I use this chart someone posted in the 1942 board, just change the countries names, it works so much better than cash, no lost money, ever. Note *This chart may have been a useful inclusion to the game so that one could simply photocopy more but hey fixing these small problems are what these forums are for.

      I also made one for Pacific 1940, and I’ll likely post one for Europe 1940 and Global 1940 when it comes out. Here’s Pacific 1940 and 50th (1941 and 1942). Enjoy.
