      I needed to upgrade my OS, but now with OSX.6 (Snow Leopard) and the correspondingly updated Java, it works great! Thanks!

      Great work! Finally!

      I was able to install the software and open it. I was able to load the new map. But, when I try to start a game–from either the original or the alpha 3 version, as a local game or a PBEM–I have the following error: “Error reading PNG metadata”

      MacBook Pro
      Intel Core 2 Duo
      OS: 10.5.8

      Thanks!

      @knp7765:

      While I understand that may make it harder for Germany to take the Russian capital, is it really a good thing to give up so much real-estate to Germany?  There’s a fair amount of money in the territories in the south, plus NOs for Leningrad, Stalingrad and the Caucasus.  Isn’t letting Germany get so much richer and stronger a bad thing for the Allies?

      Germany taking Moscow is the game, it always has been. Give up territory for time? If it means delaying Germany taking Moscow then yes. As long as you delay it until the USA can save the day then so be it.

      I have done this. But leaving USSR with 40 for 4 turns is 160 –> 50+ inf.

      Good night.

      I’m with you, I don’t see how the axis overcomes the USSR’s production; we certainly haven’t figured out how to do it yet. Allies win every time.

    • RE: I almost pulled it off

      @JamesAleman:

      With this conservative play, when Japan moves to sz64(west of canal), I move the whole US fleet(from sz 101+sz89) to sz89(east of the canal).

      There is a danger, that your fleet will die in sz89 from a German navy/air, Japanese air one two punch, but it is a setback, and London survives this scenario.

      @JamesAleman:

      Turn 3: defensive moves (assume worst case scenario: I am caught flat-footed) Units pulled out of Hawaii last turn into WUS simply move to CUS, with all air units stacking EUS. WUS fleet moves through peaceful Japanese fleet to sz 89 to link fleets. 1 DD attempts a feeble block in sz102 to force Italy to clear for German invasion. CUS land units move to EUS (I keep all excess land units unable to fit on Hawaii bound transports here, this should be your starting land forces(-3 land units[art,2inf] sent to WUS turn2, tank and mech can reach EUS) + 5  built infantry (as 1 built turn 1 is in WUS bound for CUS this turn.)

      Excellent critique. I agree. After G3 the gig is up and I stack my fleet in SZ89 with a blocker in 102 to prevent a 1-2-3 punch on EUS. If you want to save the fleet you could even build an airbase in SE Mexico, W. Indies, and/or Central America to scramble any plane that won’t fit on the ACs, but, I suspect you’ll need those to defend EUS.

    • Transport/Sub Non-Combat Rule

      Can an unescorted transport unload its cargo in a Seazone containing only an enemy sub during non-combat? For example, the UK is reinforcing London with a single loaded transport from Canada but there is a German sub in Seazone 109.

      I suspect it does not block in non-combat movement, but if it was an amphibious assault it does block, correct?

      Thanks!

      Therefore, it was decided that no FAQ/errata would be officially published until Alpha is completed.

    • RE: Global odds calculator?

      Fine, then don’t use it. It’s running a Monte Carlo simulation, which is the only reasonable way of doing it.

      From the repository for all human knowledge:

      Monte Carlo methods (or Monte Carlo experiments) are a class of computational algorithms that rely on repeated random sampling to compute their results. Monte Carlo methods are often used in simulating physical and mathematical systems. Because of their reliance on repeated computation of random or pseudo-random numbers, these methods are most suited to calculation by a computer and tend to be used when it is unfeasible or impossible to compute an exact result with a deterministic algorithm.

      If a 5% uncertainty is not good enough for you then just run more iterations as Calvin said, or, get crackin’ on that super computer.

      A percentage chance of winning/losing/drawing, coupled with the average IPC loss, should be sufficient information for any reasonable player to make a decision. It’s certainly better than no statistical information at all and I don’t want to play with anybody that needs more information.

      I contacted the guy that makes that and he says he’ll change the Aircraft Carrier to two hits and that he’s updating the iPod/iPhone/Android software soon with the 1940 simulator. Soon, whatever that means.

    • RE: The key to (killing) Russia's heart is in Nenetsia

      My only criticism is that if UK, ANZAC, or USA have a plane in range of landing in Vologoda after Japan can-opens then they can and will land one to block a blitz. Mainly, if there is a bomber in the UK then it can reach. There are a ton of situations however when this is not the case though so I think it’s a good idea.

      Wow, thanks! I don’t think these will work for most people, but for those of us that keep their pieces in clear transparent jewelry bins, these are perfect. Thanks a ton.

      Also, boxcars, I’m hoping you SBR a lot? Or are you just unlucky…
