    • RE: Operation Sealion Question

      New option please:

      Screw Sealion, Barbarossa FTW

      Reasons:

      1. If nothing else, Barbarossa is more fun and tactically interesting. I don’t know if this is the case with the latest rules, and these ones do add more complexity, but Sealion in anything through Alpha+3.5 is very rigid–get. units via transport to UK. Barbarossa can change, and it requires tactics that change as the enemy’s change.
      2. It means that you are not fighting a 2-front war when the US is coming from the West (well, you still are finishing off Moscow, but…)
      3. Home islands=8 IPC’s. USSR (excluding eastern lands) about=25 IPC’s.
      4. Nearly worthless transports: Sealion=10, Barbarossa=0 (If you haven’t won yet, Sealion is coming)

Because the results appear only when you post and your opponent can see when you edited your post.

    • RE: Need help with my Barbarossa

It’s very similar to in Spring 1942 UK building a Japanese factory in India, or US building a Japanese factory in China or Sinkiang, except Russia is stuck with Ukraine (although it does slow German advances in the south a bit I guess).

I agree with Vance, OOB Major IC Romania was key to Barbarossa, but in +3.9 the Major Berlin and easily-capturable Minor Ukraine means that you don’t need the production.

Can’t you also not use the Battlemap and just play with a real board using the site to communicate?

    • RE: Quick questions, quick answers please!

Another question. I believe the answer is yes.

If Japan moves fleet SZ 20-37 J1 and DOES NOT DECLARE WAR, and UK does not move the battleship out of SZ 37 UK1 (and doesn’t declare war either), and on J2 Japan declares war, can Japan load the transport from SZ 20 now in SZ 37 and move on?

In other words, does the fact that war was declared at the start of the combat move phase have any bearing on being able to load units from SZ 20 with an enemy surface warship in the zone?

    • Quick questions, quick answers please!

      1. Does radar apply to defending facilities’ AA defenses?
      2. Do fighter escorts ever come under AA fire? If so, when?

      Regarding the photo:

      1. What does 1 yellow chip represent?
      2. Russia is getting too much $$ right now–they’re taking up too many resources.

    • RE: If Germany tries Sealion…

True but if someone isn’t comparing (is just talking about 1 version) it’s safe to assume (and will just get safer to assume) 3=3.9

    • RE: If Germany tries Sealion…

The Alpha naming system is strange, but a simple rule of thumb is if someone says “Alpha+3” they mean +3.9

    • RE: Final Global setup!

The thing is that if the Axis takes London, the US will retake it easily and Russia will crash down from the east.

Whereas it is virtually impossible for Moscow to be liberated until the game is REALLY over (IMHO Berlin will fall before Moscow, and the only way Moscow is recaptured is if the Allies feel like retaking it (and historically they might not have…)

    • RE: Need help with my Barbarossa

It’s easy to win with Barbarossa. With about 1 plane build per 2 turns and 3 subs/turn starting G2 (sometimes less depending on situation) it’s easy to keep England going nowhere, and Japan plus the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine can tie the US up.

    • RE: Radical g1 move with new setup

      1. You can only retreat to Romania if at least 1 unit came from Romania…
      2. Sounds like you aren’t sending enough to France and are setting yourself up for either distracting Italy up in Paris, or really bad losses.

    • RE: Need help with my Barbarossa

For my Barbarossa (and by no means is this perfect), G1 I make my intention absolutely clear to go Barbarossa. So what if UK can build planes? He’ll

      a. Have been convoyed to around -10 income by UKE4
      b. have been fully strategically bombed by G2 (or 3 if rolls are bad for Germany)

And thirdly, the US is much slower in to the war.

So I build 2 art. and 2 tnk. and either 2 tech rolls or 1 fighter G1. Depending on Russia’s moves, I’ll attack G2 or G3. Usually I have a big enough force to send one group down to take Ukraine, and use builds from there to take Stalingrad and then Moscow, and another group to take Leningrad and then Moscow.

    • RE: Final Global setup!

I’ve never seen as many benefits of Sealion since I found Alpha+3.

But with the clumped navy and the extra AA/2 inf/mech, UK has a better chance of defending.

And remember, UK is very hard to defend against a concerted US attack with only having a minor there.

    • RE: Cruisers, whats the point?

You have a point but remember that planes can’t fly for months across water

And you do have a point about bombardment strength…

As I said, every unit has its specialty, excluding bombardment, except for cruisers.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      @SAS:

In the current Alpha 3 rules, if London is captured, is the USSR allowed to declare war?

      IIRC yes

    • RE: Cruisers, whats the point?

I agree that a 20 ship vs. 15 ship battle is rarely if ever going to happen.

That’s why I said all ships have their point, and 3 movement should be cruisers’ point.
