    • RE: Germany in Africa

And honestly, if Germany is smart with the Luftwaffe/S. France IC and the UK doesn’t invest fully into the Med, the Med can become Italy’s without Sealion/India Crush.

However, most if not all of the Italian Africa Force will have been obliterated by then.

I guess that’s a military feat, but AFAIK they weren’t really the technological pioneers the US is/was in the 40’s, and UK had more land. Taking Russia is much easier than you might think if you plan it right and know how to handle the winter.

    • RE: Strategic Bombing Raids

I actually like SBR’ing the airbase on the UK.

Why? Well, say you don’t hit 110 G1 but instead put 6 damage on the airbase and some on the IC. Do the carrier, 2 transport build and UK will sometimes freak out and forget to repair the airbase, meaning that G2 you don’t need to send nearly as many units at the fleet.

    • RE: Fortress Moscow

I pull a Hitler, mainly because Russia tries to hold the IC’s.

If they retreat, I’ll take the IC’s with very little so I can build from there, and really go at the money territories.

It shouldn’t be hard for Germany to economically overpower Russia.

Actually, when I get D-Day, I’m going to work Blockhouses into it.

      Sealion just got much harder.

There are both on Larry Harris’ site IIRC.

    • RE: A Submarine Battle situation

I think you can, and here’s a situation:

You WANT the cruiser dead, but you NEED (as in if you don’t get it you’ll lose the game) 3 of your 5 subs to do whatever. Perhaps mount an attack on some transports defended by 2 destroyers. So you defend with 2 subs, knowing that come whatever dice you have 3 subs left to do sub stuff. You still have the 2 to defend.

      Unlikely?
      Totally.

      Possible?
      Possibly.

It’s really aesthetics unless France survives G1, which shouldn’t ever happen.

And it’s also to appease the history buffs who noted UK’s presence in France.

    • RE: Atlantic Wall

That’s actually in-game a great plan. The fact of the matter is that naval and air bombardments are critical, and pulling back eliminates that.

Here’s a crazy idea if you really want to put fighters into your landing: Build a Russian transport north of Leningrad and use it to “can opener” Normandy-Bordeaux so US fighters can land.

Sure, there’s no naval bombardments, but you could leave just enough to force a German counterattack and then hit them again.

It’s fine. I’ll try and learn as we go along. If it means it’s harder for me, oh well.

    • RE: Europe 1940 OOB unbalanced? why?

Since you’re using OOB, I’d go as far as saying all of them. I don’t have the OOB board with me, but send the Baltic Fleet to hit the 2 cruisers it can. While it’s not perfect odds and you may only end up with a vulnerable damaged BB, that’s a battle you SHOULD win. 2 subs to 106, 2 to 109, and split the other fleet/airforce between 110 and 111. Should be enough.

    • RE: Defending armies cannot retreat

Yes to the full retreat is like a blitz.
Same to inf/art and air units (perhaps we make them use a MP?).

Regarding the “reserve force,” perhaps we could let there be a blitzwall, or perhaps we could make it so that if the attacker 1-round pounds the reserve force they can pursue with tank/mech if they so choose.

Another rule I was thinking of is the Strongarm Blitz.

The rule would mean that tanks/mech can blitz as usual IF the attacker has 2 times the LAND UNITS of the defender.

Where were the US’s colonies? Sure, Guam and the Phillipines and a few other islands in the Pacific were American, but there was nothing near to what Britain or France or even Italy and Holland had.

    • RE: Greatest Post Roman Power

I voted British Empire, but, although we weren’t an empire I’d like to see 1945 US as a choice. Back then we had an amazing military, including the Atom Bomb, giant air force, highly-mechanized/mobile ground force, and good denfenses against the other major powers–2 big oceans. In addition, military production was in full swing and was ridiculously big.

If the question was most powerful nation for its time, I’d say US.
