Yep, you lost all when you got a tech. We made a houserule that if you accidentily rolled two 6’s you was allowed two rolls and could pick the tech you liked.

RE: Norway!posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Yes. It’s worth 13 IPC, is a good staging point for air and naval units, supplies a northern army, etc.

RE: Norway!posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
In my last Europe game as Germany I built an IC in Norway and it helped me out a lot. I used it to build two land units and a sub per turn. The land units had a decisive in my war on Russia.
The subs I used to convoy raid Scotland, Nova Scotia and to keep the allied fleets busy. Also I made sure Russia didn’t get its NO. When the UK fleet attacked my sub near Scotland it was always in range of my airforce (on Norway). So it lost the UK player a lot of DD’s and the UK airforce had to commit planes there which otherwise would have been used elsewhere. And if the US wants to capture Norway (which would be terrible) at least they aren’t fighting Italy. And they would have to commit a lot of forces to do so, because my Norway had an AA, 3 inf and almost my complete airforce.

I used the red (5 unit) markers for Italy and even ran out of those…

I love te idea. I would buy a lot!

RE: Yugoslavia Exploit?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
No, I was very unfortunate.
I did not use Yogo for an IC and didn’t concentrate on Africa at all (with Germany). However Italy only concentrated on Africa and was really succesful there, building an IC in Egypt and drove the Brits south all the way to their (by then) heavily guarded IC.
I DoW on G4 and concentrated on Leningrad. I conquered Vyborg, Karelia and Baltics with massive armies. I had 3 trannies and an IC in Norway, so my northern army attacking from Finland was huge. Russia kicked the hell out of my Baltic army, but couldn’t touch the others and with help from my trannies and SB I took Leningrad. I also killed the SU army which attacked my Baltic army, because there was most of his offensive capacity (tanks and art).
In the mean time I kept the Brits busy with subs and bombers. They had to invest at least 12 IPC every turn for Africa and the three trannies from G1 made sure their first turn was spend on inf, so their fleet never became massive, because of my swarms of subs circling Britain and cutting off convoys.
I must admit I played it against an inexperienced opponent, but his extremely lucky dice rolls did make it a very difficult game to win. My invasion of Leningrad saw about 12 defensive hits out of 14, IIRC.

RE: German Minor Ic in Southern Franceposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
True. In all my games so far however, France was only attacked by land forces. All forces the Germans can send. Germany left Normandy for a later turn. Normandy adds little except for 2 IPC and a minor IC which doesn’t get used in G2 because the UK won’t have any trannies left.
I use all my aircraft to attack RN and by doing so only leave the Britons their fleet near Gibraltar.

RE: Admiral Yamamoto's first global gameposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Is it still interesting to keep playing, instead of investing that time in a new go?
Sounds like Germany will never make it in time to Moscow, Italy is crippled and Japan struggling too. And all this without the Americans who by now will send their massive fleets to kick Axis butts even more.

RE: USA/dutch territories and frenchposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Wait a minute. If Paris is occupied FIC can be captured by allied troops instead of liberated? Is this a special rule for FIC, or is it the same for Normandy, Madagascar, Morocco, etc? And also true for London, Berlin, etc?

RE: German Minor Ic in Southern Franceposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Yes, I do think it is illogical, but they are bordering territories.
Italy can’t take on Paris alone. Especially because the Brits move first. But if an attack from Germany fails (because they are greedy and want all RN sunk and are conquering Normandy) Italy can attempt it.

My only global game so far lasted 4 hours before the Axis gave up.

RE: G1 Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Okay, didn’t notice it was a standard rule. Thanks!
So the dogfight is before AA rolls? That’s good!

RE: German Minor Ic in Southern Franceposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Yes, France (Paris) and Northern Italy do border eachother.
Go to the main axisandallies.org page, go to the first topic about Europe (Out of the box), scroll down to the western map and look between Switzerland and Southern France.

RE: USA/dutch territories and frenchposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think all questions are answered with yes. With the last question havibng the restriction that the US can only ever land anything on allied soil (no matter if it’s Java, Kwangtung, Soviet Far East or whatever) if the US and the ally they want to land are at war.

RE: Calvin found a loophole in Sealion that invalidates the UK naval block!posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I am confused. I thought IL was basing his strategy while missing the fact that the Gibraltar CV and CL can attack sz112.
And Holkann: fighters can only scramble from airbases on island (territory with one seazone all around it).

RE: Short UK Destroyers?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I am always short on German artillery. In each and every game I have too few art. I build some every turn, but always use chits, but still….

RE: G1 Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Are dogfights a standard rule?
In built AA’s don’t hit an a 2 or less. Neither does any other AA until (in global) you research radar.

RE: German Minor Ic in Southern Franceposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Paris can also be directly attacked from Northern Italy. Don’t need Southern France for that.
Not with infantry, so it’ll cost you!
Paris and Northern Italy border eachother…. You can attack France I1 with at least the five Italian units they start with in NI.

RE: One tough French destroyerposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
But that is better then having it destroyed on the attack. You do have to commit a unit to the task.
And in this case the Suez was Axis, so I couldn’t move the French DD to the med.

RE: Yugoslavia Exploit?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I tried it and lost 5 inf on the first turn. My opponent rolled only 1’s and 2’s. So I thought I had to compensate those losses and took Yugo. I then changed my plans on invading Russia (waited until G4) and won. First time I saw an Axis win.
