I agree with the 6 IPC for tanks. I only miss a 5 IPC buy… (except research).

RE: Strange Italian Strategyposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I don’t remember I have ever seen a total saving of IPC’s. And I have been playing since the eighties. But I did see a lot of partial savings. In previous versions as the UK I often saved halve of my income to buy a large fleet the next round. I would only buy planes to land on the next AC I’d buy.
In the new versions I do save quite some money as ANZAC (eg only buy one sub and save the rest), as Italy or UK. Never as Germany of Japan.

RE: Japanposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I am by far not sure what the best tactic is. From my experience it is not good to wait until turn 4 to attack as Japan.
I attacked Russia and China J1. Both went well. But I did not have enough power to take Phil, DEI and Australia. I was only able to take Java and Malaya (which I lost two turns later). The problem is that UK Pacific grows too strong. When war breaks out they move into China with a lot of troops, making it hard/impossible to take out the Burma Road.
To make a long story short, the fact that I took on Russia early was crucial. The Axis won because Germany could take out Moscow, before Japan got into too serious trouble. As Japan I was able to only once get an NO (Hawaii).
The one thing that did help was sending subs to Australia for convoy raiding. Because of that ANZAC never grew powerful.

RE: Sea Lion A Success!!posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
@13thguardsriflediv:
Very poor allied players who allow that to happen.
My thoughts exactly.
How can Germany buy so many transports, take UK, seriously threaten Moscow, have taken Leningrad, have 10 inf in France and nothing threatening directly by allies and get away with it?

RE: How is it possible…posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
How illogical as it may be there really is a connection, yes. I do understand the gameplay balance issue, but getting from Milan to Paris without passing through other lands is a bit strange.
Historically it should only have been bordering Southern France…

RE: Rules question: What happens if axis capture Novosibirsk?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
The game for Russia would probably be over anyway, but I would say the Soviets don’t get the inf anymore.
But let’s wait what the designers say.

RE: UK - Production/Attack Turn 1?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
With this version the UK probably will be my favourite country (it always was Germany or Japan). The UK is crucial. More so then any other allied country.
If the Axis leave the UK most of their lands then the UK can stage invasions more effective then the US. On the other hand, if the UK loses most of its ships, getting ass kicked in Africa and Middle East then the Axis have won halve the game IMHO.Yesterday I won a (global) game as Axis because I kept on kicking the Brits. European UK income was only about 15. When I kicked their fleet (at a cost of my complete sub fleet and airforce, except for 1 bomber) they were literally out of the game. The US taking Morocco, Normandy and even Norway couldn’t prevent my Germans to take Moscow and my Italians to take India.

RE: Italian Franceposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Well, if Italy takes France then Germany should have Yugo and Greece. A strong Italy is very effective. If Britain loses most of Africa there are less UK invasions. And very often (actually in all my games so far) I have seen Ialian soldiers take over Middle Earth, eh, the Middle East and invade Southern Russia. Russia must send troops to stop Italy and that means less troops fighting Germany.
I don’t think Italy needs it to become strong enough, but it does happen sooner. And building 1 or 2 inf every turn in France to help the Atlantik Wall helps the Germans out too.
It also depends on what turn Barbarossa is planned. On G2 or G3 the extra French IPC’s are very needed. I am a fan however of G4. By then the 17 IPC are relatively worth less, because all your troops (inc Bulgarians) will have gattered on the front and you will have collected income from Greece and Yugo a couple of turns.

RE: Shortage axis control markersposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I don’t want to use the ones from AA50, because I want to sell that one intact.
I will look up the ones you mention.

RE: Shortage axis control markersposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I always have way too few markers for Germany, but especially Italy. Todat I used French markers for Italy too and even they were too few. I must say I owned all of Africa, the Middle East and was pushing into Southern Russia and India. But there aren’t enough markers for Africa, let alone more (Southern France, IPC chart, Greece, Syria, etc).

RE: Axis domination for how long?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Your first question depends heavily on what turn you attack the US and USSR. I always wait for as long as I can, so I have time kicking UK fleet, build up massive armies in the east and take Yugo, Greece and pro-axis.
The French helped today. Germany was pounding Russia really hard and moved everything east to keep the pressure on. The western allies took Normandy and France. I was unable to take back France, because of the 4 French inf and a massive landing of allied aircraft. I never got it back and because of that I had to stack dozens of units in the west which gave Russia some breathing room. Unfortunately for the SU it was too late. I eventually took Moscow while Italy took India.

RE: Subsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Well, I am okay with DD’s cancelling all sub special rules. But I would love it if a DD is needed for every sub. Or every two subs.

RE: Scramble stop bombardment???????posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
New Guinea is after Greenland the largest island in the world.
The fact that Japan can scramble is a big advantage, of course. But if it gets to that Japan is in serious trouble. Then you need to hold out until Germany captures Moscow and Italy captures India.

RE: Island Fighter Scramble Rangeposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Only the seazone which the island is in. It would have bizarre consequences if all surrounding seazones would be in range too. An airbase on Sicily would become standard!

RE: First Game: Axis Dominationposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Did you play with the new set up from uncle Larry?
And did the Soviet player move all his 18 infantry to Amur? That is the worst move you can do with those inf.
The strategy of leaving France for Italy crossed my mind too. I am playing a game tommorrow and maybe I’ll try that.

RE: Would it be crazy to wait until turn 2 to take France with Germany?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I would for sure build an AA gun as France.
-
RE: Norway!posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Yes, Norway having a larger output then Holland or Spain is quite silly. Normally it would represent the iron ore, but that fact is in the NO.

RE: Balanced???posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Is this with the new (suggested) set up from uncle Larry? You know, the one which removes 7 planes on both sides in the Pacific.

RE: Soviet / Japanese Non-Aggressionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Yep, of course it is ahistorical. But I rather have Japan do standard moves like gaining DEI, pacific island and Pearl Harbour. And that sometimes it is a nice strategy to attack SU, or something, instead of the other way around.
I agree that Germany needs help (like in all previous A&A’s). I used to capture as many British territory as I could get. That meant less IPC for UK to build units in GB. But with the split income that strategy is obsolete.

RE: Soviet / Japanese Non-Aggressionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have the idea that Japan will attack the SU quite often in global. That is, of course, totally unhistorical. So perhaps we will make a houserule a bit like the revised edition. But then both ways. The one being attacked gets 6 inf on the attacked territory.
The fact that it is relatively save to attack the SU (you don’t get the USA or Brits in the war) and you will gain territories apart from China almost makes it a standard move. Or am I wrong?
