    • RE: Kill USA First

Oh jeetje! Een Nederlandse invasie? Mag ik meedoen, mag ik meedoen, mag ik meedoen? :-)

Ik woon in Zaandam. Nog verder van België, maar wel dichtbij Hilversum!

On topic (and in English): I think invading the US is a big gamble. And the thing is you don’t gain a lot of income preparing for an assault against the US. You can get PHI and HAW for +8 IPC, but that’s it. While if you prepare for an invasion of AUS or IND you can take PHI, DEI, FIC etc and gain 20+ IPC.

I do buy subs to do convoy raiding (Alaska). It doesn’t do a lot of damage, but from there it can also threaten the west coast and they are back in Japan in one turn should the need arise. And if I can spare the trannies I also take the airbase islands from the US.

I agree. But some things would not be expensive to include. You don’t need to redesign money, factories or AA guns. That would only have cost some plastic and paper and ink.

      I agree with Razor.

But if Hitler listened to his military advisors better then he could probably do with 150 u-boats. Sink all that is British and bleed them dry.

    • RE: What was the best all-purpose tank of WWII?

I think you’re partially right. All purpose also means the tank can effectively fight tanks, infantry and bunkers. Also needs to be able to cross all sorts of difficult terrain.

The Sherman was very cost effective, but in every other aspect was outclassed by nearly every German tank.

It also depends of the situation of the country producing the tanks. Does the nation have enough metal? Labourers? Factories? The US had enough all of those so should have been able to develop a better tank and don’t allow your tank crews to be burned alive with every hit taken. While Germany had hardly enough of labour, (undamaged) factories and metals, they still developed the best tanks from that era.

I think you are legally kamikazi-ing your fighters then.

    • RE: Why wait as Japan?

I can also see only one inf that can attack the 1 inf on NSW. Your ships must fight the DD in the NSW seazone, so no coastal bombardement. So that’s a big gamble. And ANZAC can take it back easily, your fleet is in danger and US can land there, since everyone is at war.

So the subs don’t need to survive a round of combat before submerging?

    • RE: Poll: Do you play to the Last Stand ?

Don’t the allies start with 6 VC? Honolulu, Sydney, Hongkong, Manila, Delhi and San Francisco.

That will be a fast game. :-)
Maybe 7 VC, so they’ll have to take Shanghai.

    • RE: FMG to the rescue?

I am with you on most things. Only I don’t see why you’d need more ANZAC mini’s. I never ran out of anything with them.

And ANZAC dice will come if you buy AAE40. Also French dice.

Things I want most are more tacs for Japan, more CV’s for US and a fighter and some art in Chinese colour.

    • RE: Twilight Imperium.

I have played TI3 many times. But now my gaming group had enough of it for a while. The thing is that you spend most of your time building up an empire (even with simulated early turns), then get into a war and al is won or lost with a major battle, in which both sides spend all their extreme action cards. Then one side will have won that battle and their is no reason whatsoever to stop the war and let your victim live. Except if others attack you in the back.

We also play a lot of Napoleon in Europe (Eagle Games) and there you always have the opportunity to sue for peace. Sure, you’ll lose a couple of provinces, but you may not get DoW-ed by the aggressor for a year and your army is intact.

Hitler would have lost all credibility of being an anti-Communist in the NSDAP, and all his followers.

      Germans, no doubt IMO.

Honourable mention for Finnish, Australian, Canadian and Norwegians.

Best navymen British, followed by US?

Best pilots Germans, followed by US.

Al just my opinion, of course.

    • RE: US options after the FAQ

I use the US fleet to build up in Hawaii (and position two DD’s in front of HAW seazone to prevent an all out attack) or Alaska.  Then Japan needs the larger part of its fleet to defend Carolines and other islands. By this time ANZAC has build enough subs to disrupt all southern islands.

      @Uncle_Joe:

No, we dont fight it out to the end conditions. There’s a reason that the A-bomb was dropped… ;p

      They got bored? ;-)

If Japan is losing we never play it out. Japan does have to conquer 6 VC to win, but sometimes when Japan has 5 VC and has just crushed the largest US fleet, or something, we also end the game. Rather start a new one then spend another hour (or two) playing the game out with an obvious winner.

    • RE: Why wait as Japan?

      @Imperious:

What if japan just kills China for the first 3 turns and gets in position for American entry by a large pile of pieces right off FIC, then India would fall on turn 4-5.

Japan kills one enemy at a time knocking out 2 before turn 6, then the showdown with USA?

ANZAC and Britain can attack when they want. So you will have to be very careful where you put your trannies and stuff. And America can deploy where they want, if Japan has most of their units in the west. But it is worth to try, I think.

And indeed, Britain’s income will skyrocket (37 after UK2) and ANZAC will have 15. Britain could build a fig and 9 inf!

    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

Yes, taking DNG is enough, because the other three ter are already ANZAC.

I have played five games so far. Three times the allies won and twice Japan. I agree with the comment that the allies come back later in the game. I think one of the strategies you could use is giving multiple targets. The three bombers on the three island with an AB is a good example. Japan can only take one and it will give him logistical headaches. Because the tran he uses needs protection, and stuff like that.

Yesterday I won as the allies while I was getting my ass kicked in the first 10 rounds, or something. India had fallen and Japans naval force was extremely large. I did a very daring move to the Japanese coast and took Korea and Manchuria. I put two destroyers in the seazones to block of the big Japanese fleet, so I could hold Korea for another turn. He wasn’t able to get it back and I build a minor IC on it and landed every single plane that could reach it, thus sacrificing my fleet. Elsewhere I attacked a smaller Japanese fleet with three trannies in it with my ANZAC subs and planes.

I build three tanks in Korea and upgraded it to a major IC. He lacked trannies so he could only land 4 land units and get all his planes in action. But with the captured AA (Manchuria) I had a force of about 7 land units, an AA and about 10 planes. He lost that battle and in the mean time ANZAC was capturing DEI and China was recapturing the Burma. China still lived while they were once only two ter left. But with some luck and my fig intact and with the help of Manchurian IPC they could reclaim their lands steadily.

Japan gave up and the allies won their third victory. So I think to state that Japan is overpowered is a bit exagerated. You can gain a lot of ter and income fast, but to keep a hold on them while the US is growing and the other three (or in this case two) are harassing you with small skirmishes and a lot of ANZAC subs to kill lone ships and raid vonvoy boxes, that’s the difficulty!
