    • RE: G1 options

You can’t leave the RN alone, as it will sail out of reach of your airforce and subs alone won’t cut it. But you can’t cripple them either without leaving France live for another turn.

Maybe attack all out at sea and leave Paris, but do conquer Normany, Southern France and Yugoslavia (and of course Finland and Bulgaria). France will be able to build for another turn, but you will be able to throw everything at it (except for some Eastern European forces).

I think I will try the latter, because sinking an extra UK BB is worth more in IPC then the complete French income (19). Sinking all trannies is another very expensive blow for the UK and helps you a lot in the long run.

It is in it, but only for the global variant.

And didn’t the RN give you headaches because of it?

    • G1 options

      My copy arrived yesterday evening.

I tried some moves to see how it would work out. In AAAE I always sank the Brits on G1. This time there are too many ships to sink in G1. But I tried to get the most out of it and used all my subs, ships and airforce to attack at sea. It was very succesful, because it cost the Brits and French about 100 IPC worth of ships and me only 2 subs and a damaged battleship.

      So far so good.

But my attack on France really missed the punch my airforce can deliver. I took 2 inf and 1 art to attack Normandy and all the rest was used on Paris. I got 7x1, 2x2 and 5x3, so I should on average score about 4.4 hits. The Anglo-French alliance have 9x2, 2x3 and 1x4, so should score about 4.7 hits. Even though the Germans lose a couple of ‘ones’ and the French losing ‘twos’, it still is a close call and chances the French can hold out are pretty big.

What naval units should be destroyed while leaving enough airpower for France?

      What are your thought?

      Free sub? Better tanks?

      Those were probably house rules?

    • RE: Craziest rolls you've seen in AAP40?

I made an amphibious assault on India as Japan. UK had 1 tank, 1 inf, 1 tac and 2 figs. I had 2 inf, 2 figs and a tac.
With his AA gun he rolled 3 ones and all my planes were shot down. Because it was an amphibious landing I had to go through with it. I didn’t had any coastal bombardments, because I only had two carriers and a couple of DD’s there.

In my first roll I scored one hit and he lost his inf, while he missed all. Then I scored two hits, removing his tank and tac. He rolled nothing. Eventually I killed everything and took India with one inf! It was very risky to begin with, but Japan was losing so I had to take some risks. After all my planes were destroyed I almost gave up.

Eventually I took out all of China and UK and after a long night of gaming I took NSW and won!

    • RE: Magentic fighters

I use tiny magnets sometimes for Warhammer mini’s. Same magnets could be used for fighters and tacs and carriers.

    • RE: Declaration of war for the US

The US-player can’t declare war. You have to wait until Japan attacks you, UK or ANZAC. If they don’t then the USA will declare war at the end of their third turn (right before getting income, so you’ll get the +40 IP).

    • RE: Airbase Usefuleness

I think an airbase on land should be a bit cheaper. The biggest advantage is the scrambling ability. But you are not allowed to scramble from land territories. So the usefulness is halved. So maybe airbases on land should cost 8?

    • RE: USA IPC

They start with 17 IP. Without war with Japan they will receive 22 per turn (5 bonus IP for having national objective: Phillipines). As soon as war is declared the IP value of the Western USA is increased from 10 to 50 IP. Very likely, the Phillipines will be conquered as soon as war is declared, so you’ll also lose 7 (2 from the IP value and 5 from the NO).

    • RE: What is the UK to do

I only build inf and art and sometimes a sub. Still it is difficult to keep your territories from being captured by Japan. But the longer it takes, the more time ANZAC and US have to take captured islands and destroy Jap fleet.

PS dice look great, but the flag symbols on them wear off very fast. I have them for three weeks now and already a lot of paint is getting of.

    • RE: Carrier went in with attack force…

Really? I can’t make that up from the rulebook.

Anyway, I think my group will have this as a houserule then. It is quite a coincidence if all fighters from a CV are in the air at the moment that a surpsise attack takes place from a sub!

    • RE: What if mechanized infantry could tow an artillery piece

      Totally unbalancing, IMO.

But pared with a tank it will make the ultimate combined arms bonus. Three different units being able to move two spaces attacking on 2, 2, 3. And that for 14 IPC! That I would like to try.

    • RE: Cruisers?

As the USA I almost always buy a tranny, inf + art, DD and CA. Cost: 34. I have 21 left (most of the time) for another tranny and cargo, or the build up of CV-fleet.

This way I will have a steady flow of land units while it isn’t a nice target for a lone bomber or a lone sub. As a bonus my trannies can gop back for more cargo (or be offered to be destroyed to liberate a Chinese province or DEI). Then you still have the DD and CA left, which can be added to your growing US fleet.

For all other nations I hardly ever build CA’s. I go DD and SS all the way.

    • RE: Cost effectiveness of ground units in P40

If Europe was released now and not pacific, then we would have the same discussion on carriers, probably. Germany, Russia and Italy won’t buy too much carriers, I pressume. Especially now it costs 16.

The tac bombers will ensure European armies will have panzers and probably a lot of mech inf. In Pacific I hardly buy these.

    • RE: Carrier went in with attack force…

The planes need to land elsewhere if you take a hit with the carrier. They can move four spaces from where the attack was launched.

AFAIK the only time carriers have planes on them that can’t take off is when the carrier is hit by a submarine-only attack. Because then the fighters cannot defend against the subs, so they’ll never take off.

    • RE: AAP40 Day 18 from Release Date–Opinion poll: Who is favored to win?

      8 games so far.
      Japan 2 wins
      Allies 5 wins
      one draw

So I voted allies. Also because the times Japan did win it was with a little more luck then average.
