    • RE: G1 Barbarossa

All stuff you can’t throw against France can be positioned. In the north you gain 4 Finns. In the south 4 Bulgarians. On G2 your airforce will be able to be used against Russia. And then of course the stuff you have bought on G1.

In non combat you can leave your western inf to defend the coast line and all fast troops can be used as a follow up on the eastern front.

In this scenario I don’t take Yugo, of course. It only gives you 2 IPC while it cost you at least 2 inf (6 IPC) and keeps a lot of your troops too far away from the real action. Leave the Balkans for Italy. Especially if they lose their fleet they can still progress if Greece and Yugo are theirs to conquer.

    • RE: G1 soften up France so Italy can take it

Well, if you turn the two ships to Italian ships the moment France gets captured completely then the Brits can destroy it like IRL. You could agree that the ships can’t move until the next Italian turn (so if the Germans get all of France on G1 the ships can move in the first Italian turn, if France gets captured on I1, then in I2 can the Italians use the ships).

Okay, thanks. I thought the English word strafing only had to do with planes.

I think G2 or G3 is best to attack Russia.

Just checked it on the homepage of this site. G.1 and G.4 both require Norway to be in German hands.

The Swedish iron ore and I think the one for which you also need all of France. I am not at home, so can’t check it.

Yes, the British destroyed it because they were afraid the ships would end up in Axis hands. So relatively historical…

Strafing France means hitting it with planes to soften it up for Italy, right?

That way those planes are not sinking Brits.

    • Norway!

Is it just me or is Norway more important then in all other versions combined? Norway is needed for two German NO’s, is a terrific place to send your airforce from, secures the northern part of the Reich, and with an IC you can really hurt the northern Soviet Forces.

And on top of that it borders SZ 125 which is needed for a Russian NO.

If you take Paris and acquire over 60 IPC the first turn I would seriously consider an IC on Norway. It naturally depends on how many UK trannies survived and are in range of Norway.

Strafing France means leaving a lot of British sailors alive, which can hurt really bad.

An interesting strategy. I would let Germany take Normandy. Another advantage is that Germany can kill off more British navy and can already take Yugo. Together with Bulg and Finl is makes quite a nice income.

With all the discussion going on about a too weak Italy this is a nice strategy worth giving a try, I think. If this still doesn’t work I am thinking about a house rule giving the two French med ships to Italy if France is conquered.

    • RE: Is that French aircraft carrier ever going to actually be built?

The CV is in it, because it is probably on a standard sprue.

But still funny: a useless CV (I actually have 2 French CV’s in my copy) is in the box and no paper IPC…

    • RE: G1 options

      Actually it was:
      Germany: 30
      3 French territories: 9
      Bulgaria: 1
      Finland: 2
      2 NO’s: 10
French reserves: 17 (19 is in global game, because of Indo China).

      Total: 69

Yugoslavia and Greece were conquered G2, which added another 4, making German income 56 IPC.

    • RE: Italy a bad design

I, as Japan, would be delighted with a lovely present of all Russian Eastern inf on one space next to a sea zone.

      As a Bulgarian CV? ;-)

Well, in a global game it could happen that Germany is doing terribly and Japan is doing excellent, so the game is still interesting. If France is freed and Germany heavily crippled, then it could happen that France is able to build a CV. Very theoretical, I know, but still……

    • RE: Italy a bad design

I agree with the statement that Germany could build an IC somewhere on the Med Sea and in that way help the Italians out. You can also send in an inf to get the Egypt NO (or is that only with the Europe variant?). I would build an IC in the Eastern Med, because then it can also be used as a stagepoint for Barb.

    • RE: G1 options

I just played a game as the allies. My friend invaded all 3 French territories and succeeded! He also got to kill off quite a few Brits, but it cost him all of his subs. He also didn’t invade Yug, because he wanted to that with his airpower a turn later. In the first turn the Germans cashed 69 IPC!!! 17 from capturing Paris, 10 from two NO’s and 42 from his regular income.

That made me realise something. I wondered if it is wise to leave the SU alone for 3 or 4 turns as Germany. But with this kind of money you get way more then twice the SU income for the second turn and after that are in a good position to gain close to 55 (invading Yugo and perhaps Greece).

What I also noticed was that there are so many strategic options from the start. Even more then in Pacific. As Italy do you take care of all surface ships to get the NO, of do you want to start expanding in Egypt on I1. We experienced that you can’t do it both.

      I love it so far!

    • RE: Whats in the tech tree?

No problem! It is however different from the AA50. There are no tokens anymore, so every 5 IPC is a one chance die only. I think our first houserule will be to get those tokens back, but at a higher price. There is relatively more IPC to go around, so I think 6, 7 or 8 is a better price. Or as I read somewhere that you need to pay an upkeep of 1 IPC every turn.

    • RE: Cruisers and tac bombers new abilities

In our house rules we let TAC bombers choose a target at -1 on the dice roll. He can chose to do so.

Cruisers defending can force their hit on an opponents aircraft (instead of, say, a hit on a battleship).
