      Guys,

      ––Well, I haven’t had much time lately, but here’s two pics of the
      U.K.-European (London) Capital unit from SHAPEWAYS after “Allworkandnoclay” got through with them.

      –I mean, really. Check out the CLOCK in the tower !  :-o

      –Please note that these pics are taken utilising an OOB “standard” size gameboard, and that I/we usually play on a gameboard that’s been enlarged 150% in order to have “more Room”.
      –I hope you enjoy them.

      Guys,

      ––It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forum.
      ----Here are some pics of the Shapeways Capital unit for the
      USA, the White House. Just remember that these pics are magnified several times the ACTUAL size of the units. I hope you enjoy them.

      **Guys,

      ––IMHO, While these units look somewhat like a factory,…they aren’t really “distictive”, and with all of the many units now on the gameboard I, personally, prefer things to be very “distictive” and thus INSTANTLY recognizable. The units that I use for Factories, both Major & Minor, have smokestacks that I feel instantly tells you that these are Factories, as well as being very well detailed.
      ----You know, it might sound funny, but my favorite part of my factories are the smokestacks with individually painted bricks.

      Guys,

      ––An update on pics uploaded. I’ll give a brief description and a link for your convenience.

      Guys,

      @cyanight:

      @Young:

      Although I understand that the brass idea was important for the weight of the stand, I’ve heard some say that it’s unfortunate they weren’t made of metal considering all the customization work being done with magnetizing units and chips.

      Very good point!  I guess you could glue small 3mm magnets on the top or a piece of ferrous metal.  That way you could detach them from the base for carriers or storage.  You also would not need to buy as many.

      ––I bought 3mm super-magnets to be applied on the underside of ALL aircraft, as well as the FMG a/c stands. It Works well and looks GREAT!

      **Guys,

      ––And here are the “Research Centers”,… a.k.a. the “2008 Risk Factories”. I hope this explains “MY” choices for some of the Infrastructure units. If you’d like to see more discussion and/or pics, just look above at the previous five pages of my Infrastructure thread. I hope you enjoy them.

      Admiral T & Others,

      @Admiral:

      Wow Tall Paul those facilities look great.
      ––Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed them.

      I’m also happy to see I’m so not the only one that uses those risk pieces…
      ––Well, Although I bought and have several of the “2008 Risk” pieces painted,… For my Minor Factories I have since replaced these units with the
      “HBG MINOR FACTORIES” and will either utilize the old Risk factories for
      “RESEARCH CENTERS”,… or sell them.
      I’ll post a pic below of my Major Factories, Minor Factories, and Research Centers just for “clarity”.

      I loathe the little cardboard makers that we get in all the newer games for industrial complexes, so I use the old fashioned plastic A&A factories for minor complexes and those risk pieces for major complexes.
      **––I couldn’t agree more concerning the “cardboard CR_P” that comes with the OOB set.

      @koba:

      He has nice stuff that’s for sure. BTW, his capital city pieces look good too.

      ––I couldn’t agree more! Shown below are some pics of EBard’s Capitals after they’ve been painted. I hope you enjoy them.
      ––I’ve bought literally dozens of EBard’s designs and I’m EXTREMELY HAPPY with them! They’re all very detailed and durable, too. Everyone should “check out” his designs on Shapeways if they haven’t already done so.

      Guys,

      ––Well, finally, through the help of a good friend “R DiStefano”, we have some pics of the Capitals that have been painted for over 8 months now.

      ––IMHO “Allworkandnoclay” did a masterful job on these units! The pics are enlarged quite a bit,….so when you see these units in person they are soo small,…yet their detail is AMAZING! to say the least. Also, these pics were taken utilising an OOB size gameboard and when we play our games we almost always use my gameboard which has been enlarged 150% allowing more room for these well-detailed units without taking up too much space on the board.
      ––I guess we’ll start with the Anzac Capital which is the “Sydney Bay Bridge”.
      I hope you guys like 'em. Thanks again, Rich, for taking the pics!

      EBard,

      ––WELCOME! It’s really good to see you posting here on A&A.Org !

      ----I’ve been spreading the good word of your A&A unit designs on Shapeways for quite a while now here on Org. I’ve bought dozens of EBards designs, everything from Aircraft of many types to Facilities like Air or Naval Bases, and his custom-designed Naval Shipyards, too.
      Thanks again for your excellent designs that compliment what we’re ALL trying to do with this game;….Have FUN!

      YG & Others,

      @Young:

      This is really, really awesome work TP!
      **––What kind words to say,…especially from someone’s opinion I truly admire.
      –Personally I like these G-5N “Liz” Bombers much better than the G-8N “Rita” Bombers for my ‘standard’ Japanese Heavy Bomber.
      –Or…if your commenting on ALL of these units, well Thanks. Just remember, all of the time, effort, and expense of detailing, painting, & decalling these units is for one purpose:
      –To have FUN!
      –with my wargaming friends,…and with people I have YET TO MEET. I really enjoy this strategy game we call AXIS & ALLIES, and I truly enjoy sharing FUN with other gamers. I haven’t been very active here on .Org lately as I’ve been very busy trying to get the last funding for my upcoming Railroad & Military Museum. I will have a venue where all of you gamers can visit & have FUN!

      @R:

      Tall Paul-
      Yes, Chris already said he will be going for that Tech.
      **––No Doubt!
      ----If you & Chris would read the above book, (I’ll let you borrow mine), you’d see that these 400-class boats & a few others were so HUGE that they made wonderful sonar/radar targets,…and were very sluggish in underwater manuevers. To me that means their DEFENSIVE value should be REDUCED, not improved. Also, If I remember they didn’t carry any additional torpedoes so I’m not sold on their OFFENSE being improved either. Their offensive improvements were primarily their three sub-borne aircraft.
      ----I understand the “gameplay value” of an improved tech unit though, as well as the desire to give “new” capabilities to such a cool looking sculpt as these.
      ----Anyway, I’m looking forward to having some FUN with ya’ll. I only wish I’d had a little time to better learn all of yall’s house rules, set-ups, and such.

    • RE: I-400 w/ Achi M6A

      Guys,

      @barney:

      I recently read a book on the I-400’s. It was very good although I can’t remember the name.

      **––“Operation Storm” is probably the best of three books I’ve read that were written specifically on this subject, the Japanese bombing of the US West coast and/or Panama canal, using sub-launched aircraft. They had even planned for possibly using a “dirty” bomb. Good book. Good paint jobs, too. I guess I’ll be seeing them from the U.S. side this weekend in our game.
