Tally one for the Axis this weekend. It was a good war and the Axis won a few key battles with some luckier rolls than the Allies , no Sea Lion or fake Sea Lion just Barbarossa . Japan went after China and the Soviet Union on one, set up for landings in the Philippines Aleutians Hong Kong the Pearl Harbor battle and Borneo I also put pressure on ANZAC with my Carrier and Destroyer from the Caroline Islands. I brought the Carrier and planes up to hit Hawaii along with the Destroyer . J1 was 2 Trans and 2 Subs. J2 was 1 Carrier 1Dest 2 Subs 1Trans. J3 was a Minor Fact, Inf, Art enough to fill my Trans and the rest on Navy. I was lucky on a few key battles to keep the USA at bay time after time, of the 4 times I’ve pulled Japan out of the cup, the Axis have won 2. My Axis partner, this was the first time he’s pulled Germany, he’s had 10 or so games to see how everybody else has played the Axis. Yes Japan has taken some real beatings.

RE: J1 attack on Russia in Globalposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
In the 10 games of Alpha+2 my group has played Japan has always does better when they go to war earlier, the more experienced players do well and the Axis have got the win. I’ve found that if you wait then the Allies have more time and money to build and plan. I also think that the 12 dollar bonus for attacking Russia and taking FIC plus Russian territories along with the Islands worth the most money helps Japan more than waiting and only getting the 10 bonus for not going to war. I also put pressure China with my Air Force and my land units sometimes I’ll send my planes to eliminate territories where I need to go the Burma road . I also like to get a factory by J3 there is only one country between Japan and Germany. So far our games have been about 50/50 with some undecided due to time . CANT WAIT TO PLAY THIS WEEKEND !!!

What is the Murmansk convoy? I agree totally . It can make a good house rule.

RE: More German Subsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
A sub or two can be a good option early in a game, especially if this can dictate what U.K. has to buy .For every sub you buy, U.K. needs a Destroyer , or the U.S.A. I’ve found that they work better in groups of 2 or more.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHOposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The one thing I don’t see is what happened at Mid Way Island, could you imagine if they put that set of bad rolls in the game. How could you simulate that into your game? A few free rolls with no DE.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHOposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Remember the European board that came out 1999 I think the additional $12 that was given to the Germans and the other $12 was spent by the Allies made it a great game, so what if you did something similar with this game. Maybe $12 to Germany and $12 to Japan and split $24 between USSR UK London UK India and maybe ANZAC. Its just an idea. Try cutting the N.O.'s all, some or none. One thing we’ve done with the other games is to set up multiple boards 3 for 6 players 2 for 4 players then the players can try their ultimate moves, after the second or third round then its all about tactics to achieve the results your after. When the game is over, trade sides then see what your opponent has in store for ya, the next week switch teammates it can make for great rivalries and rematches. When the weather warms up I’ll be able to set up in my Carriage house and do multiple boards. In the 8 games my group has played its been 3Axis victories, 4Allied victories and 1 undecided, they all were Alpha +2. The Global with the original set ups we’ve only tried about 4 times that was last year and I cant remember the results. We played alot of the Anniversary edition until I bought both boards in Feb. I think I can’t make a judgment until we play a bunch more games.

RE: Japan strategy pleaseposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Thanks for the response. Twice I was Japan, the first game I tried Pearl Harbor in 41 (second round) it didnt work for me. I had some real bad rolls. The second game I had better rolls and the USA made some poor purchases. When USA came out to sink my fleet the dice were in my favor and I still had my fleet it kept USA at bay. I added to my fleet, then I built a factoy. I was also blessed with a powerful German ally who went all out push on Russia once France fell.In the 8 games of Alpha +2 Japan was able to hold their own in 3 of those games

I think you"all should set up a board or two and let the dice do talking. In the 8 or so games we’ve sat down to everybody seems to think that the money USA gets when it goes to war is big a game changer, as far as the split on the spending only once did I see a USA dump on one side or the other , it was in the Atlantic and Japan had a free realm in its hands. Otherwise we spend some in the east and some in the west with the Lions share going to the west. What if The only way to increase your income is to take Territory the USA would have to cross an Ocean.

RE: Japan strategy pleaseposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
America comes in the war in the third round so I believe that Japan should hit in the second round stay powerful in the Caroline islands move to anzac like your going to land there, also hit China hard use your air force to eliminate units ,also hit Russia and think about getting a major factory take N.O.from USA and try to take as many Islands as possible Germany and Japan Need to work together to take out Russia. The group I game with dont play the victory cities.

RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
If you want an interesting set up go for the original set up that is printed on the box tops, as for the N.O.either pic and choose or loose them all. For the techs go with the anniversary edition.

RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think it is a good balance, the Axis have to be agresive and remember the only country between Germany and Japan is Russia, dont give them a chance to buildup. Attack the Allies on the second round. Thats an interesting idea about splitting the American money, the group I"m in looked at that for a couple of games and since it wasnt in the global rules we didnt try it.I think its made us more aggresive as the Axis. Also it depends on the dice, if an aggresive person pulls the Axis and if you can win key battles with minimal loses .we dont play victory cities Let me know if you try the split American income.

RE: Combat movement and scramblingposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Thanks and no they dont complain about scrambling for defence of their own sz. Scrambling has taken some getting used to. They didnt like when I used German fighters in combat and noncombat and landed them in Italy, Then when U.K.attacked Italy in sz 97 I wanted to scramble the German fighters and this what caused confusion. The aircraftcarrier is a good example.

sometimes it can mean a reset,I’ve seen that a reset can change the dice from good to bad and visa_versa

Combat movement and scramblingposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
the other day i landed some German planes in Italy to scramble against the U.K.in the Mediterranean. My fellow gamers didn’t like the idea that even after , Germany has completed their movement that they could move again in a combat situation.I know the rules are open to interpretations.I’ve looked at the scrambling rules and didnt find where it says that fighters and tactical bombers can scramble after doing combat or noncombat. If I could have some clarification for this issue…… they think that I pull rules out of my hat
