I’ve seen Sea lion work and not work, it depends on a lot of things like your opening round rolls.
I’ve also seen where it works, and Barbarossa works too in the same game
Opening round rolls made a big difference in the second game yesterday, The Axis got hurt early and couldn’t recover.
In every game It’s important for Germany to eliminate the royal Navy. Stay strong with their Navy and air force to thwart off any threat of an Allied invasion, and hurt Russia and push on to their capital and get as much money as possible

RE: The Frenchposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
There is a game we used to play where once the French fell the fate of the fleet was decided by rolling the dice. I think it was a 1 & 2 it turned Axis a 3 & 4 it was destroyed and a 5 & 6 it tuned Allied.
It’s interesting to think of all the different possibilities that could result from the roll of the dice, roll each boat or group separately, the Axis and the Allies split the rolls so that one side doesnt roll all the rolls -

RE: Rochester NY area: looking for playersposted in Player Locator
I live about 40 miles from Syracuse we game every weekend, 4 to 5 players. If I get too many people we set up a second table.
Here’s a thought meet up with all the players in a 200 mile radius. Rent a hotel conference room make sure it"s a nice place with a pool, and convince the family it’s a get a way mini vacation. It might just work if all the spouse’s liked games like Scrabble Poker Yahtzee, or the Bar.
Get the people from up north to come down and from the south to head north etc.
There’s a group that plays on the weekend at the game store in Oneida -
RE: Axis Strategy against 100% US Pacific Strategy in Alpha.+2posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
In all the games I’ve played as Japan, they can stay powerful for about 7 rounds and then their going backwards. If Germany can’t take the victory by round 10 or 11 then the Allies should win.
I wanted to experiment last weekend with Japans set up as the OOB set up but the guys didn’t want to go for that. I even pointed out that it could be one them that pulled Japan, they didn’t , I did and they were like see trying to give yourself the advantage.
In the last 6 games I’ve pulled Japan out of the hat 4 times the could use some help thats why I like the idea of the OOB set up for Japan. I dont know if it will do the job or not.
I like the game the way it is, but if the Axis don’t get early then I think their doomed.
It’s not like the earlier games where if Japan was left alone it could take over the world
I need to have the luck of not pulling Japan about 50% of the time and having my war gaming friends get crushed from Japan and then propose the idea of the OOB set up for Japan
J1 2 subs, 2 trans
J2 Minor fact, NAVY
J3 this is tough it all depends on how things transpires NAVY, maybe another Minor if not on J3 then J4
I like to hit China and Russia onJ1 then Pearl Harbor on J2 along with the Phill HongKong and Islands that take away as many N.O.s as possible from the U.S. the W. coast navy on J3 and take Pearl Harbor start pressuring ANZAC, It’s to much speculation at this point, it all depends on how well you do opening round and round 2 -
RE: How un-balanced it really is?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I like it the way it is . 1 on 1 is different than 3 on 3. I also think the table top is different than the computer screen. The Axis had 2 wins this weekend and of the 17 games we’ve played with the ALPHA+2 rules and set up were still about 50/50. The skill level is about even on our table

RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The Axis won both games this weekend that brings the score to 3 to 2, both were the ALPHA+2 rules and set up.
London was never able to get liberated and after 3 or 4 rounds of being held by the fascist’s. The USA was still trying to deal with the Germ fleet unsuccessfully , and the push was on Russia for 2 rounds. Japan was pushing into Russia, China, and the Islands. It was just a matter of time before Russia fell and Germ was staying strong in the UK. so we reset
The second game was a fake sea lion, then an all out operation BARBAROSSA. Japan went for Pearl harbor, the Phill., the Aleutian Islands and Hong Kong on J2. I also had a minor IC on J2 and another Minor on J4 the first Minor IC went in Manch. the other went on Kiangsu . My opening purchase was 2 SS and 2 Troop Trans.
I was Japan in both games
They were both very good games the dice were pretty even in both. The first seemed like there were lots of mistakes, the second I think we all learned from the first.
More in a week or so…… I should take at least one weekend off in 3 months -

This weekend I’ll have 2 boards set up, 1 with the OOB set up and we’ll use the ALPHA+2 rules and on the other it will be the new ALPHA+2 set with the ALPHA+2 rules. My goal is to see if that can give Japan a better chance to stay in it longer, the problem comes down to dice and strat.
Maybe that’s the formula Larry came up with to make up for Midway and Nukes.
I think that just changing Japan’s set up from ALPHA+2 back to the OOB set up will give them a more dominating position in the first couple of rounds after that dice and strat. take over, keep everything else the ALPHA+2 set up and rules
I would like to finish our match’s from the last 3 weekends same people same sides they went 1&1 then we changed sides and we lost the first as the Axis. I think it’s going to be 1 on 1 this weekend.
It would be sad to think that the USA will always wins……what Germany invades Washington!!!
Much more testing to be done -

Never happy with what you have always wants more……it’s not how much you have but what you can do with what you have maybe that’s just human nature.
Try to sack the USA with Ger Jap & It
But if your going to try to get them to hand out more stuff for Jap I don’t think there are too many people who would turn them down
WE almost set up the OOB last weekend for a change of pace but we didn’t. The Jap OOb set up could be a game changer then again those dam dice can do it to ya to
Keep on keeping on and maybe there’ll be a new set up to the game (official) -
RE: Cruisersposted in House Rules
I think that the designers and developers knew what they were doing when they put them in the line-up, give them some credit. They work well for me when I’m the UK. they can make my dd’s less prone to aircraft attacks. Compare adv. to disad. not good against the sub sneak attack VS att & def at 3
I think that when they put them in it, it brought the cost of subs and trans down……here is a challenge land in the USA with Ger somewhere between G3 and G7.Keep up the posts its good to see all the diff points of views

RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think that if the sides are evenly matched skill wise it will be difficult for the Axis to win in a long game, if their going to do it, it has to be early on.
More testing is needed, I cant wait for the next game. So far I like it as is -
RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The Allies won :that brings the score to 2 to 1 the Allies. We’ve played about 15 games and I think were all familiar with the game.
G1 was France,S.France, Norm. , Fin., Yugo and Bulgaria.R1 was to pull back in the east, build in the west. J1 was hit ,china set up for Phil.,Kwang and step in on vacant Russia. U.K.1 was to take out the fleet at SZ97, land in Greece consolidate what was left of his fleet. IN.1 build and reinforce Born. ANZAC.1 build and reinforce. Oops I forgot USA on 1 it was build and deploy, CV, CA, dd in W.USA. sub’s turn. and 1Inf. in E.USA, my mistake I moved C.US east and west. IT.1 was to take Gib. sink the FR. fleet try his luck in Greece take Anglo. and advance on Alex.
U.K. and IT. had scramble orders with Fr. and Germ. help
G2 BB CA & Tran. went to Gib.Sea zone 105. Sub’s went after Brit. fleet and convoy $ ,finished off Greece and started to prepare for operation Barbarossa. R2 was to pull back one more in the east, and to set up def. and counter punch where Germ. was going to hit. J2 was to hit Hawaii, take it . Hit the Phil.and take it : Kwang , and take it.USA 2 hit Morocco and took it ,trying to sink the Japan fleet in Hawaii.USA 2 built more Navy and dumped it in the Pacific. CH. 1&2 was to push back on Japan and keep the road open U.K. 2 was to deal with the Ger. subs, put some units in Africa and start to build a new fleet. Move the dd into the Med. from the red sea. IN.2 was to reinforce the Islands of Sumatra and Java and push towards Kwang. ANZ 2 was to go after the Islands for $ and their N.O.'s and to reinforce and add to their navy IT.2 was to take on Egy. and to rid the Med. of Allied ships and start to move toward Russia. Fr2 pulled their dd into the Med. and troop move in Africa
G3 the BB,CA and the trans along with some planes took Morocco they built to replace their looses and organized the push toward Russia. R3 pulled back one more in the east and set up for the start of the war with Ger. J3 was about the same he came after my fleet on the west coast and started his battles with India and Anzac for Islands and DEI. U.K.3 was all about fleets to deal with the Axis navies, the same for Anzac IT3 was working on the Med. and Africa money mainly naval units to conquer the Allies in the Med.
Sorry USA3 was more fleet in the Pacific and only minimal fleet in the Atlantic. I left C. U.S open it was my mistake because on G4 he landed there took my bonus and the 12$. I was able to take it back and we eventually won the war.
I dont think Ger. planed on the U.S. it was there and he went for it. Gib. is an important key. I think he should have spread out more in Russia for the money and if his purchases were a little different it would have been tougher for the U.S.
Japan likes to keep the U.S. as far away as possible from their homeland at least on our boards.
I didnt mention to any one at the table that if I were Ger. I was going to try for the U.S. The Ger. player is always very aggressive and the last time he was Ger. he did Sealion followed by Barbarossa and was successful. I do see that if I get Ger. what I will do differently to hit the U.S.A.
Sorry for the long post and I had to work from my memory so I cant be real specific on what everybody bought and what the losses were at each battle. There were 5 at the table. Untill next time
