    • Any reason to attack Sweden or Norway?

      Do you think there is any reason to attack these two neutrals? I can’t think of any.

      I’m afraid not. Maybe on the weekend, I’m a bit busy. I think game’s norms/rules are all worked out.

    • The Second Battle Of Jutland

      What if, in 1939, before the war, Germany decides to withdraw all surface forces (like the destroyers, cruisers, and pocket battleships), to the Baltic Sea, where they will do nothing until the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau are combat ready. Hitler then orders the German surface fleet (this battle happens before the Norwegian campaign, or doesn’t happen at all) to engage the British near the Jutland peninsula, hoping to win an even bigger surface victory than at the Battle Of Jutland in World War 1 (many far right Germans celebrated the Battle Of Jutland and the Battle Of Tannenberg as a victory to forget World War 1). Let’s say the German and Allied fleets fought to the death, and the German sailors were willing to sail into such a battle.

      How detrimental would this have been for the German war effort? How would the war have changed?

    • RE: Global 1943 Expansion, Revised

      @the-captain

      I’ve got two quetions:

      You say this is based on how 1943 usually looks like in a game with your house rules-I don’t understand why the industrial complex in Germany (which is not in range of the Allied bombers) is underground, whilst West Germany’s industrial complex (which is in range) is not.

      Also, I noticed that he limit for Waffen-SS infantry is maxed out a 6, and yet there is 8 of them in the setup-does that mean that units that are part of Waffen-SS armies do not count toward the limit? Thank you!

      Can you also make a battle calculator for this please? It’s quite hard to plan strategies without that. Thank you!

      @ampdrive

      Did think of stripping the Malta garrison, because the island itself is virtually useless.

      Germany probably doesn’t need aircraft to attack Greece.

    • RE: 1940 East vs West Conflict

      @abworsham4

      Unfortunately, the powers of both sides are not comparable to any of the games, so we can’t just play it out with side switching house rules (and other stuff too, but I’m just saying a new setup will need to be designed). The Soviets were even less modernised than in 1941. The real question is Germany. If Germany fights with the Soviets, (depends on what Hitler’s short term plan is) the outcome is uncertain, especially with Italy’s allegiance. It Germany fights against the Soviets, the Soviets would probably fall, especially if Japan can be convinced to jump into the war.

    • RE: [Global 1940] Funny How...

      @all-encompassing-goose

      Use this:

      The Hump - The Hump was the name given by Allied pilots in the Second World War to the eastern end of the Himalayan Mountains over which they flew military transport aircraft from India to China to resupply the Chinese war effort of Chiang Kai-shek and the units of the United States Army Air Forces based in China. The Allied commitment to supply China enables the Chinese to resist even when the situation seems hopeless. The British empire and the United States may transfer up to 6 IPCs in total to China every turn as long as India and Szechwan remain in allied hands. The Nationalist Chinese regime is corrupt, however, and the allies must spend 2 IPCs for every 1 IPC that they wish to transfer to China.

      Also, I don’t trust Quora, so you may want to post other sources as well.

    • Analysis of a game on TripleA (thought you’d might like to know this stuff)

      Two nights ago I set up a TripleA Global 1940 second edition no bids game. I set the AI to fast on both sides, and let them battle it out.

      The Axis won in Europe. Japan had a good time, with the naval war being quite chill. Mainland Asia was intense though, with India constantly being quite a thorn in Japan’s side, Japan was counterattacking against British gains in China though.

      Now that it’s done, here’s what I noticed (conversation starters, parts I want to discuss, and the most important parts are bolded):

      1. There is a lot more cooperation between sides. For example:

      US and UK fleets shielded each other in the Atlantic (the US and UK usually kept to their own navies when I played).

      Germany and Japan heavily shared territory with each other (there wasn’t as much cooperation when I played)

      Japan had a much more active role against the Soviets.

      Keep in mind this cooperation may be because my games are different. The AI Allies went for full KGF, while my Allies (particularly US) seesaw between theatres. This leads to fewer navies and transports needing to cover each other (less exist in the Atlantic) and Japan needing to help Germany out more.

      1. Britain, France, and ANZAC poured units (like 20 infantry, 5 aircraft, and 10 heavy equipment, keep in mind this is just an estimate) into the Soviet Union.

      Is this a good strategy? The Western Allies moving units into the Soviet Union would result in the loss of 5 IPCs of bonus income to the Soviets.

      1. AI Germany had a much higher infantry to artillery/ tanks ratio than I usually do.

      2. The AI Allies clustered around East Africa.

      Why are they doing this and is this a good strategy? Not sure whether to copy it.

      1. AI Germany did a G2 and AI Japan a J2. This is very different from what I do, waiting for the Allies to declare war. Not sure what to make of this, since this choice is so momentous.

      2. ANZAC moved their units all over the map. It’s probably for dan openers, though it’s still odd. Funny enough, ANZAC had a medium sized fleet of a battleship and an aircraft carrier.

      3. The Allies declared war on true neutrals. Why?

      What benefits does this gain for the Allies? It almost proved to be the downfall of the Allies (I won’t say it was, the scale and units involved were too much for 20 infantry to make a difference, though Turkey gave Germany a free pass in the Middle East.

      1. Aircraft were often used by themselves to destroy ground units. I do the same thing, but I’m not sure if the AI is as stupid as me or so smart it actually thinks it’s a good idea.

      If you’d like pictures, notify me.

      @Italiarulesthewaves

      Take the Suez Canal and Gibraltar, and defend them like hell.

      That should make the Mediterranean an Axis lake and open up the Soviet Union and Africa.

    • Transporting from contested zones

      @Krieghund

      Nigeria is controlled by Germany. South Africa is contested between Germany and Britain. Can a British transport take British units from South Africa, move into the adjacent sea zone, then unload them to attack Nigeria in conjunction with units moving overland? Thank you!

    • Looking for special books - Any help?

      Do you know any books or websites which mainly show World War 2 orders of battle? I haven’t found any yet and it would be much appreciated.

      Also, do you know of a book or website which steadily charts the new ships Japan and the US send to action by month during the Pacific War? I want names of the ships.

      Thank you!

    • RE: An accurate version of Axis And Allies Global 1940

      @the-captain

      As for logistics, I feel like there should be a change to convoys, where if they are attacked and the ships are sunk, then over time, then supplies can’t get though to the units that are being supplied the infantry will be less effective, tanks can’t really move, and artillery probably can’t shoot due to lack of ammunition. Perhaps the players will have to spend IPCs to make railway lines, which will supply units at the front line (where those supplies will come from, I’m not sure). They can be bombed like industrial complexes, although perhaps anti aircraft artillery units will have to defend against aircraft, probably although the railway line can also have it’s own anti aircraft artillery. When a railway line is destroyed, the effects of the units on the frontline will suffer the same problems as convoys being destroyed. Perhaps we can replace the IPC system altogether by having all powers control certain amounts of strategic resources, and those resources will have different functions, such as steel for building units and oil for moving units, with different territories having certain amounts of these materials. Synthetic oil plants are an interesting idea, which can be bombed.

      I guess so. Still, China had put everyone here, so if Japan won it would’ve been the end of China. Instead, that one infantry with British support has began a comeback. A very scary comeback.

    • RE: Strategy Guide Global 1940

      @barnee

      The Solomons are even worse-they let Japan deny ANZAC both of their national objectives at once, the only territory to do that. Also, the new transport rules do make a big difference, but I would still like to have an infantry in each transport (unless it’s for improvised situations, and no infantry units are available), to absorb hits less painfully (note I haven’t played a game with these new rules, so my thinking might be wrong).

      Great photos Barnee!

      I think probably, though Germany should have at least 1 escort ship in their massive transport fleet, Soviet submarine or not.
