I concur on the cost thing. I’ve never bought an dedicated anti-aircraft unit in any Axis and Allies game previously.

Actually, what would be cool is if the historical formations (brigades, divisions, etc.) were represented on the board, like at D-Day. There could be a bonus for keeping the unit together.
They should mark each unit though corresponding to each formation they were part of to make it easier to track. Just a different coloured stripe will help.

What if japan invaded the Soviet Union (alternative history scenario)?posted in World War II History
In 1940, in preparation for Operation Barbarossa, along with Romania, Italy, and others, Japan is among those who were contacted to invade the Soviet Union from the East shortly after the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Japan agrees, rapidly building up the Kwangtung and Korea Armies to get revenge for the defeat at Khalkin Gol.
What happens next? I look forward to everyone’s responses!
Thank you!

Agreed. That’s how I always play it.

RE: Historically Accurate Gripeposted in Axis & Allies Discussion & Older Games
How I see this game is an alternate history simulator-not to represent World War 2 as it actually happened, but to accurately simulate what would have happened if certain things have changed in the war. This means that accurate mechanics are required. For example where’s logistics! It is the biggest problem in the game that no matter the amount of American submarines in the Western Pacific, all Japanese infantry fight at the same value, when historically thousands of troops starved on the islands the Allies didn’t invade! Or the fact that it was really hard to supply Axis troops on the Eastern Front when they are in Russia and have to be supplied from Germany, through Poland and Belarus, two whole countries! This is just one example of a problem with the mechanics-you can find more here:

I hope so. It’s a better idea to have this game have Operation Torch and the Tunisia Campaign than to have a separate game for those.

RE: What if japan invaded the Soviet Union (alternative history scenario)?posted in World War II History
Don’t count them out-the IJA was no Romania or Italy-their troops were very fanatical, and in an all out war, Japan would have thrown everything they had against the Soviets, rather than just those comparatively small border clashes. The Japanese would be semi supported by the navy, and Japan’s large air force outclassed anything the Soviets had in the Far East (which tended to be lower quality than the ones in Europe). This advantage nulified the Soviet advantage in tanks, which wasn’t actually that much (few T-34s or KV-1s were in the Far East, there were already so little in Europe). Those T-26s were more or less equal to those Japanese tanks. One more thing that has to be noted is that this hypothetical invasion would take place in July, soon after the
German invasion, which could mean more cooperation (not much though), unlike the independent Japanese plan to invade the Soviet Union, well into Operation Barbarossa (in this case, Japan would have invaded a weeks or so after the German invasion, much like Romania). Here’s a link to that:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kantokuen
I did see that Quora link before, but I consider Quora unreliable.

Whilst I really like those new rules, my main problem is that they require new units/pieces, and I don’t know how to get them. Can you please advise me on this? Thank you!

RE: Why should Japan attack at turn 1?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Exactly! That’s why I always wait for a declaration of war. Attacking first caused Japan to lose in real life.

Is there a world champion for this game?posted in Axis & Allies Discussion & Older Games
I think about how chess has an overall world champion.
Is that the case for Axis and Allies? I ask about Global 1940 specifically but I’d also like to know about world champions for the other games.
And if there is one, have they ever been beaten by an AI yet?

Yeah, it can’t be too far from the original games.
But then again, the miniatures exist.

RE: What if japan invaded the Soviet Union (alternative history scenario)?posted in World War II History
Interesting point-I don’t think Japan would have went as far as Krasonyarsk, but maybe Japan could have taken Vladivostok (like the ports in southern China). I’m not sure how much help American aid would have come without a war with the US, so it certainly wouldn’t have been as helpful as it historically was. I wonder how Stalin would have reacted to this-he seemed to already be in a mental crisis after Operation Barbarossa. How would he have handled an attack in the east just days after? He would have recovered for sure, but maybe a few more days of shock during Operation Barbarossa were decisive-who knows?
Perhaps the main change in the war is actually the US not entering the war, which would have made lend-lease far lower than historically was, the Second Battle Of El Alamein could not have been won by the British without the Sherman and Grant tanks not coming from the US, the Battle Of The Atlantic would have been harder for the Allies, and no Operation Torch would have enabled Rommel to stay in Egypt for several weeks or months longer. The strategic bombing campaign against Germany would have been less damaging too. The loss of lend-lease for the Soviet Union would have been especially damaging, as much as Russia downplays it. Huge amounts of high quality air fuel that the Soviets could not make were given by the US, as were a lot of food and and supply trucks. Whilst lend-lease aircraft and tanks were not a important, every piece of equipment helps. Most likely the war against the Soviet Union would have stopped at a stalemate until either the Soviets make a peace treaty or the US enters the war-either way, the war would have been much longer with Germany and Japan able to more successfully consolidate their conquests over a longer period of time. It would have especially been hard to convince the US public to declare war on Japan, which would have made for a reduction in the massive increase of industry historically made after Pearl Harbour.

RE: An accurate version of Axis And Allies Global 1940posted in House Rules
Thank you for responding!
Firstly, my main reason for creating this topic is to ask the community to take my ideas and fine tune them (such as coming up with the exact equation for my morale chart)-not to fine tune them myself. Because of this, I would like to ask the community again to help me out with this.
I think the Axis And Allies 1940 Global House Rules Expansion works in this function, but as I pointed out, it still doesn’t capture all of that. Perhaps you could use some of my ideas, make into your version, and add it to a new section of your rulebook? Thank you!
Other than that, I think the rulebook is great, I will just need to find a way to make the new unit markers feel like the actual game markers (my paper in the printer is thinner than the markers used in the game, so it doesn’t feel right).
Also, I don’t play the game with a lot of people, I just usually play against myself, to try out different strategies, such as Operation Sealion, or new National Advantages, or scenarios such as “what if Japan attacked the Soviet Union, putting them in a two front war with Germany as well?”. I also don’t have the time to play test any new ideas I have, maybe when you have time you can do that once you have refined my ideas.
Finally, I just want to say that these are just ideas for you, you don’t have to do the things I wrote here, we all have busy lives, but I still would like the community to help out with my ideas.
Again, thank you for responding!

What if a truce ended the war on the Eastern Front in 1942 or 1943?posted in World War II History
Let’s say Hitler did not declare war on the US. After that, Hitler planned a better strategy for Case Blue. What strategy would that have been? After a victorious German breakthrough in the extreme south of the Soviet Union, Stalin sues for peace, Vichy France and Spain join the Axis, Rommel stays in Egypt without Montgomery having the resources to breakthrough at El Alamein without the Sherman tanks. What happens next? Thank you for responding in advance!

RE: Global 1943 Expansion, Revisedposted in House Rules
Thank you for responding!
Firstly, your game really does look interesting, and I’m sure it will be quite fun, as a sort of “bonkers” game, where everything is crazy, such as Waffen SS armies.
Secondly, an interesting idea to add to you rules are Ratte tanks, they probably only move one territory (or maybe even only once every two turns), cannot be loaded on transports, attacks and defends at 5 with 3 dice, takes 3 hits to kill, and costs 12 IPCs. Maybe they can only be placed on Industrial Complexes in the West Germany and Germany territroies.
Finally, is it possible for you to please send me a link to an accurate 1943 game? I couldn’t really find anything. Thank you!

RE: Novel naval base placements?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Good question. Egypt’s always good for industrial complexes, but I don’t find myself building naval bases a lot. It’s definitely harder to place as you have to think about how much you can use it.
Of course, Shanghai’s a great place for a minor industrial complex.
Another thing is that most territories where you need naval bases already have them, or otherwise the use is too niche for it to be viable.
French Indochina or Hainan are not bad choices though.
