      Cool story. Let’s hope this gets preserved.

    • RE: [Global 1940] One rule to balance it?

      @crockett36

      Curious. Historically though, if the game is accurate in all respects Termany would have a hard time winning. By all accounts of the actual battle the sickle cut is the equivalent of good dice. Not a chance for Germany. But for the sake of balance a better idea in my view (same concept, different presentation) is freezing time and letting everyone move as many units as they want across as many land territories as they’d like (railroads).

      Glad that the game turned. Can’t wait to hear how it ends! 👍👍👍👍

      What, what, and what? You have pieces from 1940 and 1914, even a Japanese Tiger.

      Now I’m really intrigued.

    • RE: German Mountain Corp XXXVI

      @ABWorsham4

      So the what if is “What if the Finns mobilised more troops that would free up German forces?”

      And the question is where I would send them. Okay.

      I think it might be easier by saying where I would not send them.

      I am also assuming that the “Mountain Corps” are just infantry, not Gebrigsjager or Alpini, considering the corps were entirely made up of regular infantry divisions.

      Italy (Germany’s doing really well here, no hope of pushing the Allies out with one corps, so just do what we did historically)

      Norway (almost nothing there except the sabotaging of the heavy water plant, but any hope of redoing the bomb is long gone)

      The Atlantic Wall (Allies aren’t landing there until 1944, other areas are much more dire)

      Leningrad Front (Feels like the time for storming Leningrad is long gone and a corps wouldn’t make a difference, maybe if the Kursk attack was cancelled entirely and was redirected, but tanks don’t work well in cities)

      So that leaves:

      Army Group South

      Balkans

      Kursk

      Mainly because I’m more knowledgable about this area I would probably give it to Kursk (to strengthen the attacks) or Army Group South (to hold the line against the Soviet counteroffensive, allowing Manstein’s guys to continue pushing on Kursk rather than racing southwards to defend). I also have an odd affinity for Kursk out of all the Eastern Front battles.

      And I feel there’s no way to get Tito.

      As we both know, this wouldn’t change much in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully Manstein does better though.

      Crazy. You merely hinting at the changes just makes me even more interested.

      Looks fun. Sure wish I could play it on TripleA.

      I also find you having so many minor powers, particularly for the Axis, very intriguing and fun. Cool roundels.

      It’s so accurate, you using Austro-Hungarian pieces for Hungary and Ottoman pieces for Turkey, it’s almost annoying.

    • How many pre dreadnought class battleships could the Iowa have taken on?

      No external support, 5 km distances, clear weather. Max supplies, no refills.

      How many pre dreadnought battleships can one World War 2 Iowa class battleship fight at once?

      And how many can it take on if pitted against them one at a time?

    • RE: Axis & Allies 1941 Optional Rules

      @valladares

      So you’re basically adding mechanics from the more complicated games to the 1941 game. I can see it work if players don’t have the money or time to play the bigger ones or if you want a bomber to be able to fly from Berlin to Seoul.

    • RE: G1 Taking all of France

      @TheVeteran

      That’s a good idea. The worst part with a Southern France attack is the possibility of losing 2 mechanized infantry (or worse) to destroy 1 infantry and 1 artillery. That’s at least a -1 IPC loss.

    • RE: Trotsky Not Stalin

      @ABWorsham4

      Quite, quite an, um, giant topic. I don’t look at this area of history at all (post revolution Soviet struggles), and the views of these Soviet leaders are seemingly very complicated and hard to wrap my head around.

      I’m no expert, but if everything Trotsky wanted could be carried out and had the expected results, I’m not sure much about the military side of the war would be different. The economy would’ve probably not been worse, so the Soviet military would probably been at least as good as it was in 1939.

      Based on my exceedingly brief research, Trotsky probably would’ve opposed Nazi Germany. It’s possible he would’ve tried harder to gain victory in Spain, but I doubt a war would’ve been triggered then. The Axis weren’t exactly prepared, both countries were still separated, and if the purges didn’t occur the Soviets may even have been too intimidating at the time for the Axis to consider war.

      Even if the Soviets teamed up with the Allies, it’s possible Germany would’ve still invaded Poland, depending on how much the Soviet military would be held in contempt in this alternative timeline’s 1939.

      I can’t say much more or further than that without feeling that I’m lying.

      On the bright side, if the Soviet democracy thing works out, the Allies can truly be called democracies fighting facism, rather than a dictatorship spoiling the whole nice, simple narrative.

      Obviously the details of, well, everything, pre and postwar, would be different, but I don’t see much changing in the giant scheme of things. The Soviets win, the Nazis lose.

      @crockett36

      No thank you, I don’t have the time. So you’re reducing the IPC value of Japan whilst giving fixed bonuses? Hmm, that does limit Japan’s options and would definitely be a slight nerf.

      One tactical bomber from Poland, one fighter from Slovakia Hungary (I only played that mod once, and I think the starting setup is the same).

    • RE: G1 Taking all of France

      @squirecam

      In my experience three slots is nowhere enough for Germany to build up a fleet and transports in the Mediterranean to make a difference while not getting destroyed by the British.

      And Germany’s IPCs are very busy breaking the Soviets.

      Leave Southern France to Italy to boost their income. In case Northern Italy is somehow captured, it’s a very useful backup complex. Germany has enough backup industrial complexes in the rest of France in case of Allied bombings anyway.

    • RE: Low Luck Lies - The serious problems with this silly mechanic.

      @kwaspek104

      Not for me. I really, really hate it when I get diced. I know everyone does, but I like it far more when I can script and plan solo games, and it’s far easier to do that with low luck. I find it very fun to put just enough units to win a battle, a feeling far easier to achieve in low luck.

      I don’t doubt that it’s not helpful for me as a player. It’s certainly more enjoyable though.
