cystic crypt is correct. the unit hit by the BB CAN return fire before it is discarded, but only at the troops (not at the BB of course)

    • RE: In our game Germany ALWAYS wins- help us

i think of this game as being very historic. The germans are more likely to win, but if they get hampered by bad luck(like they really did; weather etc.) or by exceptional coordination by the allies, then they are doomed. I think a very good strategy for the Soviets is to hold germnay to the baltic states/east poland/rumania line as long as you can by counterattacking, while you build up a big force in moscow and then move it down into turkestan. when the germans finally break through this line w/ enough inf. + tanks to keep you from counterattacking, you just wait until they move into bellorussia(in order to take moscow the next turn) and counterattack w/ the force you have been building up + at least 4 fighters and 3 bombers and 2or3or4 of the tanks you had in the beggining of the game. this might work, like it did in the game i just played, but it will only work under the right circumstances 1. you have killed most of germany’s cannon fodder to protect their tanks (inf) in your counter attacks, and 2. you have secured your northern flank w/ the forces from karelia and archangel + maybe a tank from siberia. it is very important to have 1 inf. in stalingrad, caucasus, and russia so if they can’t blitz thru them and you can counter attack what they have in there w/ some of your turkestan force. maybe it only worked in that one game that i just played, but it seemed like a good strategy to me

    • RE: Fortress America, Conquest Of The Empire, and Shogun

bossk’s right about diplomacy. that’s a great game, the best part about it being that there are no dice. it’s all startegy, no luck. the game is almost always different, because you are not bound to mandatory alliances, as in A&A

    • RE: How to beat the Belorussian Stack?

in the games i play, UK usually sends the 2 fighters from england, but usually US dosent. it’s very hard for the US to fly planes to leningrad(that and vyborg are only places not under german control you can send them) beacuse the in my games the germans always take it about turn 3. by this time the US fighter would still be there, and it would die. i never send US fighters to russia, just the UK fighters and sometimes after awhile i’ll fly the malta fighter to turkestan from iran or syria after i’ve cleared up the middle east

    • Turkestan stack defense

I recently played another game of europe, and i played as the allies. i held the germans back to a baltic states/east poland/rumania line until about turn 3 when they took ukraine with enough forces to hold it, and it became clear that if they wanted to they could easily take bellorussia or leningrad. I fell back w/ almost all of my troops to turkestan, and i think this is an awesome province. You can counterattack any units that go into moscow, bellorussia, caucasus, stalingrad, or russia. i left 1 man in bellorussia and 3 men in russia to counterattack any side force he would try to send north thru leningrad to archangel( i had already pushed his northern pincer force all the way back to norway) the only way this strategy really worked was that the germans lost almost all of their infantry in stupid attacks, so when the time came for him to take bellorussia to attack moscow the next turn, i would counterattack all of his 20+ tanks that were left unguarded in bellorussia with 20+ infantry, 8 or 9 artillery, 2 or 3 tanks, 5 fighters and 3 bombers(i use the patriotic rule alot). this was about turn 5, and by now the allies were preparing to invade germany from the sea, bombarding w/ 7 brit destroyers and 3 american destroyers. i would counterattack anything he would take into bellorussia, so there was no way he could win. this might be one of those staregies that only worked in that one instance, but do you think it could work all the time? i used to think germany had an advantage in this game, but now i’m not sure

    • RE: Help for A&A Pacific

by the time you can actually bomb japan’s fleet over on the far west side of the board w/ american/british bombers(approx. turn3) japan is just about to win on the next turn anyway, so they lose hits on 3 or 4bb’s and maybe lose 1 or 2 destroyers. the next turn japan invades india, so there are no other chances for the allied airplanes to attack again on the japanese fleet.

and about the idea of consolidating britain’s fleet down by australia, i’ve tried this before and it doesn’t work. i even tried bringing an american carrier w/ 2 planes in to reinforce it, but japan attcks w/ the whole navy + like 10 fighters and both bombers. hits on the bb’s, maybe losing a few subs and MAYBE a destroyer. and how exactly would america be able to get 6 fighters and 4 bombers over to the japanese fleet on turn 1?! (the 3 carriers i take as far away from hawaii as i can, the fighters attack pearl, and then land back on the carriers 3 spaces away from hawaii. the only thing that can attack my 3 carriers, 6 planes, and 1 or 2 destroyers are 1 bomber, maybe a fighter as well) on the second japanese turn i fly the 6 planes to formosa or frenchindochina or whereever they can reach, and i delay the US fleet from getting to japan until turn 4 by using CAP’s and subs. i am almost convinced that japan is invincible when you take everything you possibly can to india (and clear up the british navy on the way)+ take everything you possibly can from china too, w/out the entire front collapsing. You attack on turn 4 w/ approx. 18 men, 3 tanks, 13 or 14 fighters, 2 or 3 bombers, at least 3 or 4 artillery, and you bombard w/ 3 or 4 bb’s and w/ however many destroyers you have left. the most india can muster is about 20 men (even if china senda men down to help)

and yes, i have tried(or had tried against me)several times all the startegies i am talking about. how else would i know if these things work or not?
