I suppose if you want to find some middle ground between G40.2 and BM, you could give the bombers a first strike like in 1942.2 but also have the fighters A2 D2 but without first strike attacks.

Seems a bit unnecessarily complicated and fixes something which is not broken to my way of thinking. The BM rules are the ones which aren’t broken. Another possibility is to remove or reduce the first strike of the AA gun.

Just FYI it also ejects any Allied control markers (so if the USA controlled Shan State because you did not have a capital at the time, as soon as you liberate, the USA marker is ejected and it returns to UK control).

This is true of Paris too, so it resets all blue areas back to French ownership upon liberation if they were “liberated” Allied at that time.

1914 has improved in that aspect.
Each defending artillery get a preemptive shot at amphibious units.
      Then regular combat start.

Immediately before the combat is resolved, any defending artillery present in the attacked territory can make a pre-emptive strike against all of your offloading land units and fighters as they come ashore.

      1914 OOB rules p. 22

It is more than Sub-like surprise strike, because all defending artillery units can roll again in regular combat phase.

Thank you for your input and play tests. Thinking for the money I might just drop troops and planes and start marching lol. If I could just get a few tanks behind Russia or into the middle east it would make for some entertainment.

Thank you for the clarifications there. I do know about the destroyers canceling surprise strike for either attacker or defender, depending on which side the destroyer is on. I’ll try not to look too far into the rules, or read any deeper than needed. We typically use the battle board because of unfortunate happenings from leaving them on the map. If it’s 2 or less defenders then we keep it on the map.

My point of confusion is just that the book tells the defender to move units hit behind the casualty strip. Every other scenario in the game in which the defender moves units behind the casualty strip, those units get to return fire. However in surprise strike they don’t get to return fire unless it is a sub and the attacker has no destroyer in the battle. Would help if rules said defender removes chosen hit units from play unless they choose subs capable of first strike, those are placed behind the casualty strip and may return fire at their defense values.

Anyways, what I wish it said is not important. Y’all have helped me understand this ruling and I look forward to using it to my advantage lol.
