      @simon33:

      DOW G1 is not normally advised. Those 3 tanks in Gr Sth Germany are better used assisting in France.

      Getting Russia down is the one and only objective Germany has in that game. So DOW1 on Russia is a but risky but a valid strategy because it take several Russian units out.
      In order to compensate the missing tanks Germany should definitely let 111 or 110 go or even both seazones to get firepower at France with the Luftwaffe.

      Exposing air to the French AA is a calculated risk Germans can definitely take.

      It is a general mistake that beginners stretch the German forces too much at G1 (often attacking Normandy and SF that turn). Diluting the France attack to 90-95% odds not yet understanding that 95% and 99% makes a HUGE differences. You could describe it in other words: 95% is failing 5 times as often as 99% and even more important: winning is not everything. Germany taking France with 1 tank remaining is a pyrrhic victory and Germany is almost lost when losing almost all ground units in France G1.

      I

      Differences (from memory):

      Second Edition adds/changes:

      -Destroyers
      -Cruisers
      -Two hit battleships
      -AAA (now a combat unit and nation specific)
      -Strategic bomb damage works differently
      -New costs for most units
      -New rules for subs and destroyers
      -Completely revised map: Lots more territories and sea zones; income levels and starting unit counts are very different (favors axis); the Atlantic ocean now takes two turns to cross for East USA to England; fighters have to land in Iceland or carrier otherwise don’t have enough range; China and the Pacific Ocean are much revised, et al

      @JDOW:

      Actually Allied victory means capturing all capitols, Berlin, Rome and Tokyo. However there is no need to drag it out until this happens.

      Conceding at the point is more than appropriate.

      Thanks for the game and good luck in the league.

      Thanks for the game and good luck to you too! Maybe we can rematch (a while down the road when I improve)

      @cyanight:

      Well done ItIsILeClerc!

      @joelv18  - I agree with knp… Not sure how your taking San Fran on Japan’s first turn.

      The ACC will bring the planes as far as possible, then send them off with paratroopers to absorb hits.

      Um… Paratroopers can only depart from an Air Base not Carriers. In past history Japan had I-400 submarines to carry planes to San Francisco but only 4 were made and all were captured and destroyed to prevent the USSR from gaining technology. But still I cannot follow your strategy unless you have some nonstandard House Rules that I am unaware of.

      Sorry, I learned how to play with some crazy house rules, and am still trying to determine if the rules are real or not.  Sorry about that!

      J3/J4 dow is only if you are industrial bombing russia with japan. Allies have to take as much ground as possible, because russia will fall come G5 or G6, afterwhich usa/uk have to put enough to defend london and egypt.

      Japan’s best window is J1 if he wants to attempt a pacific victory.

      As allies, there are only a handful of strategies. You can race pacific against europe and go full KJF. You can prepare a massive d day landing off gibraltar, basically build up to take italy / liberate france (you pretty much sit there till your one big attack is good to go). Or you can attempt to turtle up russia/calcutta.

      A J3/J4 dow pretty much makes KJF the best bet for allies.

      You can pretty much tell how the game is going to go after G3 when they should have attacked Russia by then.  If they won those fights easy then Moscow is likely to fall in a couple of turns. The USA can’t get there fast enough to stop it.

      Waiting till J3 is a pain, but it allows me to get more into the battle.

      you end up getting blocked though which is the problem. unless you move naval over the islands you are going to take and have the boats loaded on J2.

      usa tends to get everything to queensland still even if you can sink it (tend to just block with a dd or two).

      no real advantage money wise waiting for j3. you lose the 10 NO. to pick up 12-13 in islands and FIC. usually -7 or -11 for allies. so usa getting his NO for the other powers to be weaker is the tradeoff.
