      Hey YG,

sorry to hear that it is so much work to do… thought that you just needed to put the cards on a printable pdf-file…

Looking forward to those research breakthrough cards, might convert them to the set I modified from your other cards.

      Best wishes,
      Bernhard

    • RE: Custom Rule Book

      @taamvan:

I apologize that you misunderstood my intentions.  If you said re-write the rules for Warhammer 40K to make them clearer, I would say give it a shot because it needs it.    But I feel that the rulebooks for AXA are solid (and would cite the very low number of errata/FAQs as compared to the past) and most confusion comes from not reading them (was referring mostly to myself, not you).   Do whatever you want.

      Hi Taamvan,

the rules might be solid, but as YG said, the rules for Global are scattered across 2 rulebooks. Here in Germany, the fanbase made a single, merged Global rulebook (in German of course) and it helps A LOT!!!

Reading and understanding the rules is one thing, not very hard to do. BUT remembering all of them and bringing them into context with each other is a lot more complicated and the practical experience playing Global shows that there a lot of small “problems” occuring due to the fact that the rules are clear, but complex and complected.

Just look at the FAQ here on the board and the rather huge amount of videos about Global, they show that there is a need for information beyond the rulebooks. Or at least for a rulebook that is not divided into 2 parts, with a few more examples giving practical advice.

Watching videos on YT also tells you that most people play Global wrong here and there, just because they misinterpret the rules. YG’s short briefing videos are very good examples of situations where most people play wrong, and there are many more such situations.

Also, the game material lacks some aids that other games in this class come with, which facilitate gameplay a lot. Mostly quick reference cards, information on the gameboard etc etc.
I have no clue how people can play Global without National-Objective-Cards, I would never be able to keep track of every nations NO’s without them. Or who does seriously play Global without paper money?

And in the same manner, I would really miss the merged Global rulebook I have access to. It instantly answered many many questions I had after reading through both the rulebooks of Europe and Pacific, where you have to go back and forth, switch between the books etc etc. It is just a huge mess.

I would at least ask WotC if they allow to make a merged rulebook. I mean they apparently allowed it to the German A&A club… if they refuse, YG can still do it the way he intends to do it now, which will however take a lot of time and might never really be finished. Very huge project…

    • RE: A&A 1940 Global National Objective Card Deck

      Hi everyone,

I would just like to add another idea for you to make these cards… usually these cardboard sheets can be printed on both sides.

So if you would like to have a colored backside for the cards instead of just white, go ahead and choose a picture or pattern for the backside. As it is quite difficult to have individual pictures aligned for each card to be printed exactly on the same position on the backside, I just went ahead and used a camo pattern to print on the backside of the whole sheet. That way, all the cards are kind of randomly camo colored on the back which gives a nice touch to them without the trouble of alignment.

I chose a WWII “Flecktarn” (mottled camo) pattern used by the Germans, which I found on Wikipedia:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flecktarn
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flecktarn#/media/File:SS_Platanenmuster_Sommer.jpg

You can of course use other camo patterns like US woodland:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Woodland

Wikipedia and/or Google picture search are a good resource for high resolution files to use for this kind of application.

I added an already edited file of that German Flecktarn ready to use to print on the backside.

      Best wishes!

    • RE: A&A 1940 Global National Objective Card Deck

      Hey folks,

after asking YG for his permission, I am offering his cards (without houserule cards) in a slightly modified version.

They are still mainly YG’s work and he remains the author of them.

I just changed the font to a mil stencil type. While doing so, I revised some of the headlines and texts, the latter mainly to fit into the box with the new font and also to “correct” minor things that differed from the rulebook. I also corrected the “Egypt-mistake” that YG pointed out on one of the Italian NOs.

Last but not least, I rearranged the cards on the printing sheets so that they line up and are therefore a lot easier to cut out.

To get regular sized cards, print both sheets onto DIN A3 or Ledger/Tabloid format paper.
To get mini cards, print the sheets onto DIN A4 or Letter format paper.

I had mine printed on heavy cardboard (300g/m²) at a local copy shop, it is not necessary to laminate them if printed on such stiff cardboard.

      Here they are, enjoy:

And many thanks to Young Grasshopper for providing these in the first place!!!

    • RE: New to Axis and Allies Global – What do I need to get started?

Thanks, I did not see those 4 pipe factories there before, In the category listing, only the 2 pipe factories show up.
No 1 or 3 pipe factories though  :?

Anyway, as the price is only for 10 pieces and you need 12 minor and 11 major ICs for the initial setup alone, you would have to buy 20 2-pipes and 20 4-pipes, which would be 50$ plus shipping. That is just too much in my book, I mean you get a whole 1940 game for less than 70$ at Amazon, shipping included.

Well, HBG wants 95c per factory piece, if they ever were in stock… I’d buy some 30, which would also be relatively pricy… and I don’t see those factories coming if HBG strips them from game boxes and only lets you buy 12 per day. That said, I will have to figure out something else. If only I knew someone with a 3D printer

If I ever find something good that is reasonably priced (which will probably be selfmade), I’ll post it over in the customizations board.

    • RE: New to Axis and Allies Global – What do I need to get started?

Nothing wrong with a little crafting, skill and motivation are not the limit here…

But the family leaves me little time for things like these, so I am always looking for solutions that are less time consuming. I mean, it’s not only buying the stuff, its finding it at stores, looking for it etc etc.

Also, I like consistency… those grey factories for me just are THE A&A factories. The first A&A I ever played has them, the old A&A Europe. I just prefer that a lot over pieces from other games. That’s why I am so exited of just using some of those grey factories to make minor ICs. So it is my first option for several reasons, but of course alternatives can easily be found and made.

      Just not Lego ;)
