maybe that’s why Hitler liked the English so much. Btw can you tell me what Hitler’s favorite movie was ?
King Kong.
Do you know who Hitler’s favourite childhood author was?

@Starke:
I have to post this one:
“The unnatural and increasingly rapid growth of the feeble-minded and insane classes, coupled as it is with a steady restriction among the thrifty, energetic and superior stocks, constitutes a national and race danger which it is impossible to exaggerate … I feel that the source from which the stream of madness is fed should be cut off and sealed up before another year has passed.”
Can anyone guess who said that? :evil:
WC
Correct: a lot of people assume it was Hitler :wink:

@Brain:
Which came first Sandford and Son or Steptoe and Son?
Steptoe and Son: Stanford and Son is an American remake in the same vein as the American remake of ‘The Office’.
Personally I can’t see why Americans have to do this - I love ‘Curb your Enthusiasm’, and would hate it if I had to make do with a British remake… you can’t beat the originals.
@Imperious:
late night runs of Sanford and Son ( even though i got them all on DVD)
Have you seen the original BBC version ‘Steptoe & Son’? In my opinion it is so much better, the dynamic between the two characters far more intense (plus the quality of the writing is outstanding).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nycQ8CeVEx8
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steptoe_and_son
Interesting fact: The actor who played the son was considered the British Marlon Brando at the time, but due to his work on Steptoe and Son could never get any decent work since people always associated him with the show… made him quite bitter as a result.
Personally I can’t stand TV anymore.
In the UK we’re expected to pay a TV lisence to legally own a Television set, failure to do so can result in a £1,000 fine. The costs of the TV lisence go towards the upkeep of the BBC, which covers both their Radio and TV output. Owning a radio is free and the quality of the writing on BBC radio far exceeds that of their televised output, so I’ve now opted to rid myself of having to pay £140 a year for a TV set and now listen to radio instead.
And I’ve never looked back on that decision.
Radio plays and news coverage are far deeper and engrossing when compared to TV. I am surprised by just how high the quality of BBC radio is when compared to TV.
Many people assume that teenagers were first recognized as a group in 1950s America, but it was in fact the Nazis who first gave teenagers or “youth” a sense of having some signifigance within society.
He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.
-Adolf Hitler
So I go to half price books and there are 5 copies of the A&A PC game, I purchase 2 despite already owning the game and am considering going back and buying the remaining three
Hmm, not really worth it IMO: I have the original 97 version with the booklets in mint condition. But to be honest I doubt you can get much for them, despite how rare they are (unless you can find some commited collectors).
I recently found out that my ID anthology book/CDs (all of IDs games from doom to wolfenstein3D) is now worth $300 - I paid a mere £28 for it :P
@Texas:
How much is that map going to cost? What company/service are you using?
http://www.london-displays.com/
Originally it was going to cost £200 on fomex in a matt finish, but my brother jumped in on the last minute wanting to go halfs with the price and decided that it would be too flimsy… so he suggested we go for a gloss finish instead on MDF for durability and ease of cleaning (should any spills - however unlikely - occur).
So now the price has gone up to £300 :-o Though that seems a lot the board is going to be transported a quite a bit around local gaming clubs and national events in the future, and so we’re willing to pay that much extra to ensure a good longevity.
I’m just waiting for the company’s production to give me feedback on the feasability of the print.
Started the process of getting this map printed.
I will be having:
1 off 1727mm (68in) x 812.8mm (32in) print mounted on 12mm MDF, edges painted black.
Will post photos as soon as it arrives and is set up 8-)
I play nothing but 2nd Edition on the Triple A Lobby.
@Starke:
But since you’ve already admitted that it was a stupid post we need not go on about this.
We finally agree.
Thanks for enlightening us with your superior intellect and charm.
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t leave it like that. If you thought I said something stupid, and you wanted to point that out to make yourself look good, that’s your prerogative.
You really should be nicer to complete strangers though, stupid or not.
Stop resorting to effeminate self-pity ethics and victimhood: if we agreed to drop this then do so, but quit with the snide quips and overzealous requirement to have the last word.
OK, I didn’t think it through and it was a stupid post.
Thanks for pointing that out - it’s removed now.
You could stand to learn about something called “tact”, Starke. Unless, of course, you enjoy difficult relations with people.
You apparently didn’t see this post, Starke???
I said, I didn’t really think it through, and it was a stupid post. How often do you see someone admit that?Why are you piling on? Looks like you got edited twice in one post for baits!
I saw that post, but I don’t see what that has got to do with my reply afterwards.
It’s good to see that you admitted it was a stupid post, but I had already written my response by then.
With regards baits: I do not believe telling someone that an idea or thought process that is immature can seriously be considered ‘baiting’. People should take responsibility for what they say, and if they say or act immature or unsophisticated then they should be called up on it and held to account.
Whatever.
[Edited for being a bait - GG].
You don’t have a crystal ball either, so how do you know?
How do I know? Because there’s no historical evidence to suggest anything that you’ve proposed could have happened, thus your little theory amounts to nothing more than mere uneducated guesswork. There is no historical trend to suggest that the United States today would be a Third World country if it had not of won it’s war of independence.
I don’t need a crystal ball to see that, there’s enough sources and EVIDENCE to counteract such a farcical take on the course of history.
Under your [Edited for being a bait - GG] theory one may quite seriously suggest that Germany is currently planning to start World War III, and has been slowly building up it’s military strength since Unification after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, as revenge for the loss of WWII: HOW CAN YOU TELL ME THAT’S NOT TRUE? DO YOU HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL?
Like the other guys said, the US was plundered. The Indians are gone.
There was no US in existence at the time, so the US couldn’t have possibly been plundered.
@Brain:
I guess the naatives didn’t budget enough money for national defense. They won’t do that again.
Perhaps in future the natives will invest in more tech rolls and spend their IC more wisely next time :wink:
Yep, and the same thing would have happened to America had they not won their war of independence. America was doomed to be an over-taxed and plundered colony if she didn’t win a major war against occupying, colonial Britain (with no small amount of help from France, who was a rival of Great Britain).
What a pile of utter horse shit.
Australia and Canada seem to throw that rather absurd and frankly hysterical little hypothesis out of the window. Neither these two countries were ‘plundered’ to the point of becoming third world countries, and it’s laughable to suggest that the United States would have become a Third World country if it hadn’t of shaken off the shackles of British rule.
I just hope people understand that the goal of the aid that is sent there should not be to return the country to what it was before the disaster and instead to create a nation that accauly works.
According to Corruption Perceptions Index, Haiti has a particularly high level of corruption. You speak of using the aid money to create a nation that ‘actually works’, but how exactly does one go about doing that? History has shown that the more money you throw at corrupt countries the fatter the Swiss bank accounts of the corrupt leaders that rule them swell.
Yes it is a tragedy that this disaster occurred, but we don’t have a duty now to invest heavily in Haiti out of some patronising pity ethic. I personally think we give far too much aid to third world countries, which simply generates a culture on dependency and further adds to the long term problem.
@Imperious:
Richard Basehart as Hitler was the most amusing.
I’m not familiar with that portrayal oddly enough. I did a paper at university on the various portrayals of Hitler on film and honestly thought I had covered most of them (give or take the odd comedy sketch here and there)
Damn…
