    • RE: Infrastructure vs Stalingradski take-2

That battle was insane. Pure moxie, and it paid off, but it could have been disastrous.

Ugh - I got to non-combat and realized I didn’t do a combat - I’ll roll it out, and if you feel it’s not ok for me to do out of order, I’ll ignore the results and put both of our pieces back.

I’m having another go at the Jap sub in SZ7 with a destroyer… sorry about this, but I was working from the first map, switched over to the newest one you sent, and completely forgot to do it…

US purchases - Naval Base, Carrier, Fighter, 2 Destroyers, 2 Subs, 2 Transports, Armor = 89 IPCs.

      Combat

Morocco - this is extremely dicey… completely even pips and unit numbers. Amphibious means I’m in whether I like it or not. This is war!

Steve - I agree, and this is being addressed (in the case of the unusual desire to not liberate France…) in version .3, by my understanding. I say we play with your rule until .3 says otherwise.

Mr Structure - I left you a voice mail also… your attack on Java was with the guys from Dutch New Guinea, and your transport had to go through a destroyer to pick them up in the first place…

Did you take them off Kwangsi? They could make it… but if so, I’ll put back the guys on DNG for you… let me know.

I just looked back, and I did roll the second round of Belarus, by itself - you might have missed it. I had an automatic (second) hit, and you had none. Then, I got an auto third hit and you missed on the way out. Three auto hits, you hit one piece on the first round.

    • RE: Russia Turn 2

I agree with - they are very situational, rather than a standard purchase, whereas artillery should be a standard purchase, because they’re a great piece.

I’m in a game right now in which I had about six mech infantry with Russia… they (combined with a couple armor and a few infantry) allowed me to strike Japan first in the north and kill a large force, then wheel south the next turn and strafe the Japanese in Kansu. Against Germany, my last few on the front are preparing to die on defense, but they were held in mobile reserve for many turns, able to threaten (again, with Russian armor) multiple spots… I kept them in reserve in Byansk - from there the mobility allows me to threaten Archangel, Belarus, E Poland, both Ukraines, and Bessarabia as long as I stay solvent in Ukraine and in Smolensk, which I have been (I long ago lost Novgorod). That’s six territories threatened! And the ability to wheel around and deal with Japanese forces quickly, if needed. Yes they are 4 IPCs, but I could never get that kind of threat out of straight infantry - their movements are predictable. Not that I don’t buy tons of Inf/Art! You’re right on about that. Just that a mobile reserve for Russia of 4-6 mech to go with their armor is a nice thing to have.

I agree with US across Africa, and also with Britain in S Africa - they get north quickly.

BigBadBruce - great point about attacking Russia - the 12 IPCs shouldn’t be a deterrent because you get it back quickly - I hadn’t thought about it that way… looking forward to it the next time I’m the Axis…

Also - good call on the Solomons. That’s a thorn in the side of the Allies. It should be taken back pretty easily, but it would be an economic shift for a turn or two, which can mean a lot.

Ok, that’s sorted out. Considering how sketchy my battles were, I had a nice round.

      Place and collect 29 IPCs.

Excellent German move, Steve. Great placements, and drain of Allied economy.

Nice job with sub purchases also, Atlantic and Med. I’ll have to really be cautious with my naval placement.

We have to leave in five minutes, so I can’t do Russia’s turn until tonight, as I don’t want to rush it… times are starting to get bleak for Russia. I’ll be using more and more hardware to keep you at bay, and the Italians are now on the scene to punch holes…

      A great game!

    • RE: What to do with Japan

      Japan should:

      1. Utterly subjugate China with all possible resources.

      2. Create the infrastructure necessary to fight a land war, freeing your navy to do important work in the Pacific… so buy two to three Minor ICs along the coast.

      3. Build units in those factories capable of speed, to go with your air power. Don’t cry if you lose a mech infantry or two on the front… speed and dying for the Empire is their job.

      4. Build a fourth carrier when the moment is right, to be able to either completely lock down one sea zone, or split into two respectable navies… of course, it all depends if the US is splitting their efforts or dedicating themselves to knocking you out.

      5. Plan ahead for Russian involvement… after you’ve built fast forces, you should be building waves of infantry to methodically approach the front and deal with Russians. If they’ve already attacked you, thank them, and fight them opportunistically… you will wear them down.

Yes, you’ve also taken the DEI, and you deal with India as much as humanly possible. The Phillipines becomes the key, because a half decent US player will stage in the Carolines in one way or another throughout the game.

      Japan is hard!
