    • RE: Transporting Artillery

      @General:

      In World War II, most German artillery was transported to the front by horse, according to renowned historian John Keegan.Â

      German half-tracks would carry PAK-38s.  But not in this game.

      Keegan was the man, i took a couple classes based on his work recently.

      Pak-38s were also transported by trucks, they would load the AT gun on a sled (known to the allies as “rosebud”) on this sled the At gun would be locked down in a fireing postion, so not only could other units carry that beast of gun, but they could carry it in a wy that made it possible to fire( not while in motion though, the truck would stop, and stabalizers would lift the truck a fraction of an inch to steady it for the recoil of the AT gun. like it or not, but that info came from Keegan.

      @ncscswitch:

        I can make your AR-15 fire full auto (but it will never go on “safe” or “semi” again).

      i know how to so it too, but i dont own it for fire power, its a .223 for satans sake. i have that rifle because any m-16 varient has the greatest iron sights ever, i nail things up to 973 yards (my longest shot with it) with out a scope. if i were to make it auto the acuracy goes way down, and thats wahat i am all about, acuracey.

      have to add two new rifles  to my collection, i just bought a remington 700 tacktical police chambered in 300 Win Mag, and i traded my HK G3 for a Barret .50 BMG Single shot. Yeah Me!!!

      these are the things that bother me about this game, the MG-42 was the best mg to come out in WWII, why does it have the same states as weaker mg like the vickers or type what ever it is?

    • RE: House Rules

      one thing we did was make three different groups. instead of solders and armor, we have a separate vehicles deal. they pretty much have a lot lower armor than they do on the stat cards. we are also working on the whole artillery deal, either land based or naval based. also, air strikes, nothing like having a stuka come down and waste some guys. when we work out the kinks ill post the whole thing on here.

    • RE: Music or a movie?

      @Jermofoot:

      Lately have just had the TV in the background.  It’d be cool to put something in to listen, but as much as I like BoB and other war movies, I think it would just make the game go longer.  Which, now that I think about it, isn’t that bad…think it would work in bed?

      i know for a fact that the patton soundtrack works in bed, nothing like good victory music to get you going :-D

      i had a buddy that was in the service with me that had been in ballet for 13 years and gymnastics for 15 years. weird, yes, but he was one nimble little guy. while in western Africa we were taking fire from a source I’m not allowed to say, they had rpgs flying all over the place, this guy did back flips threw an open street to get to the other side, guy even kept his rifle in his hand ready to use the whole time. when he did that the firing stopped just long enough for us to take control. i think the “enemy” was so weirded out by the back flips they didn’t know what to do. we all got medals that day, but he had about 2 or 3 more than anyone for that little stunt. crazy.

    • Music or a movie?

      i was wondering what you guys put on in the back round while playing. I usually go for the Victory at Sea soundtrack, or even the soundtrack to Patton, and when its a big game that will last hours i usually put the Patton movie in. Its kind of fun to have that going on in the back round. One game lasted for 9 hours (with lots of breaks) we ended up watching almost the whole Band of Brothers series. Just wondering what you guys do, if anything.

      thats a sweet deal, a store around here had a buy one get one half off deal, but they didnt say the 1/2 off one had to be equal or leser in value, so i bout 1 booster pack and got the starter set 1/2 off, i ended up doing that 13 times. i have more dice than i know what to do with!

    • RE: Storage / transportation

      @killercelery:

      I finally made my choice.  I’ll keep my units in ziploc bags, but I’ll transport them in a used ammo box.

      thats what  i do to, it works. why make it more complicated, i dont need to look like some mafia sniper carrying a big long black box around. allthough i do use a WWII ammo can, not my Nam ones. :wink:

    • RE: Hulking Mass

      we play with the house rule that states that any tank with an armor of 5 or higher can get 2 damaged and still be alive, but when it it gets the 3rd one it is dead. it didn’t seem right that a monster like the KV-1 or the Panther could be destroyed as easily as a Stuart or some other light tank.

      well i envy you and your 10 years in a club. I have to drive from chicago to north of minnappolis to shoot on my grandpas property ( Illinois is has the worst gun laws in the US if you didn’t know)

      OK, if guns were made illegal there would be less of them, and it would make it harder for “bad people” to get their hands on them, right? well first off i live in  down town chicago, and for those of you that don’t know chicago made it illegal to own or posses any kind of fire arm in the city, if you get caught its federal time (um federal time for a city crime, does that sound right?) i have lived here for 3 1/2 years now in the same apt. ( right across the street from Wrigley Field  :-D) This is a good neighborhood as far as chicago goes, mostly families, and a few college students like me floating around, a good police presence as well. but, i have been robbed 3 times, i have been mugged 4 times , 3 times was by a guy pointing a GUN at my head, in this cases i gave them what they wanted because i cant compete with a gun to my head, but that loser that didn’t have a gun got the crap kicked out of him ( a note to any would be muggers, don’t ever try to mug an ex-marine with no firearm) these weren’t high level gang bangers, they were just worthless street trash, bums. in a city were firearms are illegal the lowlist of the low can still get there hands on a gun. there are to many to be destroyed, it would be a futile attempt to get rid of them.

      as far as making bullets, well, there are people in this world smarter than you and i f_alk believe it or not. if there is a way t do something then it will be done, especially if there is a whole lot of money in it.

      this argument is pretty stupid, i joined this forum because i love axis and allies. and i would assume that you do to. so why don’t we leave it at i believe in what i do, and you believe in what you do. i don’t expect everyone to think like me, and i am not going to try to force my thinking on someone else, thats a little to Richard the Lionheart for me. i don’t want to make any enemy’s in here, so its up to you. if you want to talk about axis and allies I’m all for it. and if i pissed you off I’m sorry, i do tend to become very protective of my 2nd amendment rights.

    • RE: Call of Duty United Offensive

      close combat was great, i still play my old copy of it on my mac. in a game like that you don’t need graphics or anything fancy, you just need a good mind for tactics. Good stuff, i think ill play a game of it now.
      ps, i played the new call of duty tonight for the first time on xbox 360, WOW, it is amazing, at one point i got run over by a Panzer II, how cool is that!

    • RE: Transporting Artillery

      in the rules or not when my buddies and i play we have the house rule that says any vehicle with a transport option can carry a anti tank gun. but it dose take a roll of 4, 5 or 6 to achieve it, thats 1D for each hex you try to drag one of these things along. We ususally don’t use it anyways, unless were playing a 500 pt or higher game.

      its ooo-rah! well it was in my company anyways. We had one guy that had singing lessons at some point in his civy life. you could make ooo-rah last for 2 3/4 min. He used to yell it out of loud speakers when we were driving through small desert holes. fun times!!! God i miss the corps, i think i might go back in for another 4, anybody else miss it?

      none of that was towards you CC, i have no problems with you. I don’t even really have a problem with F_alk. he may love to quote a few phrases and give a witty little comeback, but he never really solves any thing, nor dose he really ever say anything. By the way F_alk if you were bored by guns than why were you in a gun club for 10 years, are you really that slow? You also don’t really think much, or at least you don’t seem to try to hard. What do you mean how can you out yourself on the same plain with someone who has no gun? if there were no guns, dumb people that commit crimes would still find weapons, they would build weapons ( a gun and some ammo is really easy to make) and you would be sitting there unable to do anything about anything. i know you don’t need  a gun to be safe, you don’t need weapons to feel sage either, but if you have a gun then you at least have the chance to defend you and yours if and when the time comes. so take a deep breath, relax a little and use that thing on top of your neck for its intended purpose, after doing that for awhile try to answer me this, what would it archive if all the firearms in the world were made illegal to own? and actually try to answer it, don’t give me some worthless comment, actually make a point for yourself, if you have one.
