    • RE: Philippine Islands

An attack on the Phillipines would make Japan use a move to retake.  That would give the US another turn for development.  The capture of a victory city would get Japan’s attention.  It wouldn’t hold out, but it would occupy Japan for a move.

    • RE: Helicopter Accidently Crashes into NYC High-Rise

Yeah, but it’s pretty strange that the plane was in that area in the first place.  The last I heard the plane was going along the Potomac River, then veered into Manhatten.  If the plane was in trouble, why play dodge-em with skyscrapers?  Doesn’t make any sense. :?

    • RE: Pet Advice, Please

Letting him explore his environment (the neighborhood) will allow him to feel more in control of “his territory”.  Letting other members of the household (your wife) feed and care for him will allow him to feel more secure.

Once he feels more secure and in control, start introducing items with your son’s scent on them.  Let him get accustomed to the scent and realize that your son belongs there, and Gustaff will see that he’s not being replaced and include your son in his “pack” (your family).

      Mech,

We’re saying the same thing, just in different ways.  You learned a method, then changed it to suit your style.  That’s different than trying to memorize moves and play a rote game, because someone else did it that way.  The thought behind the moves and the modification to suit the situation requires a different thought process than memorization. :-D

    • RE: CHESS

You need to find your own style, not copy someone else’s.  If your style matches a better player, take pointers from his/her games.  Mainly, just stick to the basics;  develop pieces, control the center, control open files, and see what style you develop naturally. :-)

    • RE: What out of the box National Advantages should I use…

A lot depends on the skill level of the players.  Assuming that the players will be roughly the same skill level, how about:

      Russia–-Trans-Siberian Railway (quicker defense/attack response)

Germany—Panzerblitz (allows greater use/mobility of German armor)

United Kingdom—Mideast Oil (allows greater use of aircraft, ftrs can attack Med. and return)

Japan—Lightning Assaults (allows rapid attack of coastal areas)

      America—Mechanized Infantry (allows greater mobility/attack)

If you allow more than 1 national advantage each, stay away from Superfortresses for USA.  It makes the game pretty lopsided.  IMHO the same restriction applies to Banzai Attack for Japan.

    • RE: The Fleet Chewer

I have to agree with Switch and Paintbrush.  It is a mistake logistically to unite the fleets, until the islands have been cleared of infantry, because the fleet(s) must serve different purposes for maximum efficiency.  The fleet clearing the islands can also attack Australia and New Zealand, if desired, before uniting in SZ 60 for home island protection.

    • RE: Algeria USA1 / UK1

I have to join the chorus.  The Allies would be rubbing their hands in anticipation of a weakened Europe and an intact Egypt.  To continue your assault of Africa, you’d have to move a lot of materiel via transports in the Med.  This is very time-consuming, plus the Allies can bypass Algeria and land at French West or French Equitorial Africa to block your African campaign and reinforce Egypt as the keystone of their blockade.

    • RE: Bidding?

You are basically saying,“If I have this bid advantage, I will play the Axis powers.”  Some people will have a live bid, where you bid back and forth, going lower and lower, until one side lets you have the Axis at the last bid.  Similar to the show,Name That Tune. (“I can name that tune in 4 notes.”  OK, name that tune.)  Others will have a silent bid, where you write your bid, and everyone reveals his/her bids at the same time.  Low bid wins Axis.

    • RE: This is news why?

Did anyone else notice that only parts of the document were declassified?  If we are to read it and make up our own minds, shouldn’t we have access to the entire document?  By giving portions/excerpts of a document isn’t Bush in effect giving us quotes out of context?  Who knows what we are not being told?  Bush does.

Why does that make me feel uncomfortable? :|

    • RE: Stephen King

What about “It”?  The pictures he painted in your mind of the evil clown and the hideous “spider monster” were second only to the depth of the characters, as they slowly remembered their battle as children against this same evil.

Sure, it requires a willing suspension of disbelief, but it’s a great story, if you don’t nitpick the plausability.

I agree that overall “The Stand” is his best work.  I got the unabridged version a few years after I read it the first time, and it’s well worth a second read.  It really fleshes out the characters in the extra two hundred or so pages originally omitted.

    • RE: Dice and Battlemap

      Arsonist,

No, the Battlemap does not post automatically.  It has no AI, so it cannot post battle results or builds for you.  You must do this manually.  When you have posted the results of your turn, you can send the map as an attachment to your summary e-mail to your opponent.  When both of you update the map and trade it back and forth, it isn’t that big a problem to keep up to date.  Many people will keep a board set up at home for a back-up/study aid.

      Hope this helps. :-D

    • RE: Has anyone done a Rev2 mod for the old Hasbro A&A Computer Game?

No, Schlag, to the best of my knowledge noone has come out with the revised A&A format for computers or game systems.  If someone does, I will happily stand in line to buy one. :-D
