    • RE: Some questions

Most people play LHTR, because it clarifies some of the sticky points in the OM rules.

    • RE: Flags of our Fathers (and companion film)

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I intend to do so.  Just slightly off the subject, if you want a good read, look up a copy of “The Burning Mountain” by Alfred Coppel.  It’s out of print, now, but you should be able to find one at a second hand store. It’s an alternate history.

It’s about two junior officers, one American and one Japanese, during the campaign to invade Japan.  You follow them through the last days prior to invasion, then into the invasion itself.  I thought it was gripping.  It wasn’t far out like some of Harry Turtledove’s stuff.

    • RE: How important is a 100,000 mile tune up?

Check with your local parts store.  If they don’t have the shop manuel for your vehicle, they can order it for you.  It’s usually less than $20 and is invaluable for do-it-yourself projects.  It comes complete with pictures :-D  The shop manuel is entirely different than the booklet that comes with the car.  Shop manuels will tell you (and show you) how to do everything from change the air filter to replacing a piston.  It’s a good investment anytime you buy a vehicle.  I even have the shop manuels for my motorcycles.

One thing you didn’t mention, Zooey, was the timing belt.  (Not many vehicles still have timing chains.)  If the timing belt lets go, you can seize the engine, ruining many internal parts.  It won’t necessarily ruin the block, but just about everything else is in danger.  With 100,000 miles, it wouldn’t hurt to at least have it checked.  Do this at a private shop.  Labor costs will kill you at a dealership shop.

Do you concur NC?  My friend has a late model Nissan in his driveway, now, because his timing belt let go on the highway.  The engine is fragged.

    • RE: Yakut

Sorry, Nooob.  I think Germany will pass on the AC and attack long and hard for Moscow, since some of the defense has been diverted toward Japan.  Without some quick aid, Russia could be gone by G3 or G4. :|

    • RE: Yakut

There was a thread on site earlier about Russia going offensive instead of defensive.  I believe Jennifer started it.  Anyway, the consensus was that an offensive Russia was pretty much suicide, unless the Allies could really help out strongly and early.  Russia just doesn’t have the horses to go offensive without leaving the dreaded “empty rear echelon” behind the front. :-P

    • RE: Does anyone know anything about the czar?

There’s not much left in the way of Russian royalty after the purge.  It might be kind of hard to research with most of the family dead and the rest in hiding until they died. :?

Novosibirsk,  I found two sites that have online computer play and downloads.  They are:

      searchamateur.com    and

      triplea.sourceforge.net

I haven’t tried these myself, but I have seen the triplea site mentioned on this site before.

      Good-luck.

    • RE: What is biding and is it neccasary.

In an RR game both Russia and Germany have a chance to bolster their defenses.  It benefits Germany most, because they get the advantage of the first strike instead of Russia.

    • RE: Playing with standard 2nd edition rules

Good point, Jen.  Remember, being able to violate neutrality is a big benefit in Classic that you don’t have in Revised.  This also comes in handy as the Allies, when you attack Europe through Spain. 8-)

    • RE: Attacking Ukraine

You need to get the battle lines farther away from MOS.  If you only attack WRU, you leave the northern and southern attack lines open for Germany.  It’s difficult to defend both access routes, when the opposing troops don’t have to fight and stop at one territory at a time.  If you are able to stop Germany’s progress, your Eastern front suffers, and Japan gives it to you up the hoo-haw!

    • RE: New to the Game!

      AA,

Your assumptions are correct concerning question 3.  As a matter of fact, this is a favorite way to help Russia’s defense.  UK and US stack forces in MOS territory to keep Axis (usually Japan) from taking that Ally.

If an enemy territory is owned but not occupied, you can move any land force into that territory to claim it as your own.  Tanks, of course, can blitz through that territory on the way to another and claim it in passing.

Good luck on the game. :-D

    • RE: SBR question

If your’s attacking the capital, you wouldn’t want to SBR, 'cause the IPC’s will be yours after the takeover.  If attacking a non-capital IC, go ahead, as it depletes your enemy’s IPC’s.

Both moves are legal, the first just wouldn’t do you any good. :-D

    • RE: Land bridging in 2nd edition

If you are asking if you can transport two troops, then act as a bridge, the answer would be ‘no’.  That would be two separate moves for the transport.  I wasn’t sure from the wording of the question. :-P

    • RE: Nonagression treaty question

Avid,  Just remember that all attacks (except subs) are considered to be simultaneous.  It doesn’t matter if you have land, air, or amphibious forces.  It all takes place at the same time.

    • RE: Avoiding stalemate

Or, don’t let your opponent build such a large stack!  Harassment is the name of the game in that scenerio.  Hit and run raids (straffing) and go around the stack instead of directly attacking it are the tactics you might want to explore.
