      The latest…

      AA Gamers,

      I have been given the approval to submit events for GEN CON 2021. With that I need to begin generating events for everyone but need to know from you, whether or not you will be in attendance this year and if so, would you be interested in playing in any of the AA tournaments I typically run. I currently plan on running the Global '42, AA50 and 1942 2nd Ed tournaments. I am planning on staggering them so that anyone not playing in the G42 tourney, you can play in both the AA50 and 42 2nd Ed events.

      I also plan on having the Axis & Allies War At Sea League and hopefully a few other WAS events. So, I need to get some feedback if anyone is interested in any of the other AA variants like Zombies, 1914 and the like. War Room is also a consideration but only if it appears that there is a demand for playing it.

      I know this is going to be extremely hard for me to know in advance of how many may or may not attend and I have voiced my opinion to GEN CON about the same but if you do know, I would love to hear from you.

      Also, due to the ORIGINS being just 11 days after GEN CON, I will not be able to attend ORIGINS in 2021.

      The Spring Gathering is still on as well June 25 & 26 in Wilder, KY. http://www.headlesshorseman2.com/spring-gathering.html

      If you have any questions, please let me know and thanks for your time and consideration.

      Peace,
      Gregory J. Smorey – EO/GM

      @thedesertfox I don’t think you’ll get people to agree on a bid, which is why you should have an auction if you’re running a tournament – let one player say "I’ll take the Allies for 10 ipcs (or whatever), and then the other player can either say “Ok, take them” or bid lower and say “I’ll take the Allies for 9 ipcs.” This continues until someone says ok.

      There are just so few games in a typical a&a tournament that you can’t afford to have anyone feeling like they lost a coin toss. E.g. if you have 3 rounds and someone plays allies twice and they don’t agree with your fixed bid, that’s a real feel-bad moment.

      Oh, forgot to answer the time limit question… It depends on how many people are there. If we have three rounds, yes there’s a time limit on prelim rounds (enforced very softly). Think it was 7 hours last con. It was only enforced once, most games move quickly and are resolved by then. If there are only enough people for 2 rounds, there won’t be a limit.

      First look and play at the game at Greg Smorey’s Spring gathering. I was Russia.

      The CP decided on a three way march to attack Russia. We only got 3 turns in, but I saw enough of the game to know I’d like to buy it.

      I did buy a fighter Russia 1 (after Austria bought 1) and it did help against the german hordes when I managed air superiority for 1 round.

      Dave, great teaming with you. (Dave was France and UK).

      I do think for tournament play the game needs at least 6 hrs.

      My source also says that August 18 is the date. I was also told that review copies would not be available until next week but I already got scooped on the photos and details of the game.

      That’s okay, I guess, my review won’t go on and on and on about how broken and unplayable the game is without money.

      @squirecam:

      News from Greg Smorey…

      Guys,

      I have some possibly good news for GEN CON on the heels of the Triple A shutdown…

      I have just been informed that WotC will have a lot of 25 AA42 games at GEN CON
      and I will be getting 6 copies myself. Now, I just talked to my
      supporter and he seemed pretty confident in that it will officially hit
      the shelves on August 18. So, he doesn’t see a reason why 42 shouldn’t
      be out at GEN CON…

      What ever it is worth…

      Dont forget that Origins is right around the corner.

      A half-week full of A&A play, and a convention full of non-war games, (but who would actually play them?)  :)

      A bid is a way for advanced players to even the playing field and determine sides in mutually fair way.  It’s not really necessary for novices, though both versions of AA50 favor Axis.

      Returning to Japan 1 discussion… my J1 depends alot on whether its ll or dice.  If it’s dice, I tend to play conservative and target the India fleet and push aggressively on all Chinese targets.  In ll, Japan can perhaps afford to hit Buryatia as well.  I’m not a big fan of the Pearl strike as it seems that Japan has to deploy the cruiser to have overwhelming odds of success, and trading a sub, destroyer and cruiser for the Pearl fleet may not be worth it.  On the other hand, I suppose hitting Pearl is the only sure way to deny USA its NO.

      @Jermofoot:

      How would a guy under a pile of cops hurt anyone? He wasn’t even on PCP.

      I think CC covered this, should they sit on him for 10 minutes? 20? 2 hours?

      @Jermofoot:

      Actually, there has been much debate about not only the lethality of a taser, but also the excessive employment of them.  People have died from being tased, there are records showing that cops are more likely to use the taser since it is considered nonlethal.

      I don’t know how the laws are inother places, but in AZ you can’t use “less than lethal” on someone unless it has been used on you.  In other words the cops here have all been tazed and pepper sprayed.  They know exactly what it does and how it works.

      @Jermofoot:

      Unfortunately, we can’t just silence what we don’t want to hear.  A discussion must include even the fringe arguments that are unlikely.

      Yeah we can.  You may have freedom of speech, but I also have the freedom to tell you to be quiet if I don’t want to hear it in my house.  I can hold my hands over my ears, mI can turn off the TV/Radio.  And if you’re on my property I can tell you to shut up or leave.

      @Jermofoot:

      What could possibly be more to the story?  You can see everything from start to finish on the video.

      Of course there’s more to the story, unless you were there, you don’t know what was happening outside of the camera view.
