    • RE: Ideal set-up for $150?

Nice to see responses coming in still. Well at first I decided to go for Hobbes’s advise and buy both Europe & Pacific 1940, but it didn’t take long to find out that Europe 1940 is completely sold out everywhere at this moment. So that’s a bit annoying and I guess that means my options are limited and I’ll just have to buy a 1942 copy for now. The good news I guess is that they are at least quite inexpensive and I’m sure I can always make someone happy with that later.

As far as tables and space, well I do have two full size (10 person) poker tables stored in the basement but since I rented out a room in my house as I’m not there as often anymore, it looks like a normal apartment now for a change …  :|  And carrying these 60 kilo tables up 3 floors through an Amsterdam canal house staircase is a bitch so I won’t be doing that too often if at all possible!  :-o

So no game room at my house at the moment unless I move to Suburbia with the gf in the near future but I don’t really see that happening anytime soon. Nevertheless thanks for the links, love seeing a good game room and will aspire to have one again one day!

Online gaming is not really my thing, or maybe it is too much and the addictiveness has scared me off completely (played an online browser game twice which ran 24/7 for months and I’m way too competitive for that to be a ‘healthy’ hobby) so I’ll stick to board and card games with friends. Can’t believe even my 70 year old mum turned into an online gaming addict since she got her smartphone and discovered Wordfeud, but that’s another story!!  :-D

So yes, I think I’m going to try to find a printer this week to get the large map sorted. I think I like the first / basic / “more colourfull” 1942 map more than the Supreme map, but would be very interested to hear arguments on why I should want to go for the Supreme one?

Thank you both for your quick replies!

@Bunnies: good to hear your feedback, that makes me more comfortable going for the 1942 edition

@Imperious: yes thanks for that, I just need to read up on the neutrals or no neutrals on the map thing. I think I read something about rules coming out for that but haven’t read / found the whole story yet

So would you guys advise me to just buy two copies of AA1942 to have enough pieces or I guess perhaps I can buy 1x AA1942 and a 1940 edition to solve the pieces issue and have half of the “Global” in my possession already?

    • Ideal set-up for $150?

Having played the classic Axis & Allies version many times about 20 years ago and every couple of years since, I’m ready to buy myself a copy of the game again. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the game was being offered for around 35 euro in some shops in Amsterdam and started reading up on the game and the different versions today.

The feeling I’m getting on the forums is that the coolest set-up would be the combination of the 1940 Pacific and Europe versions (aka Global 1940 if I understand correctly) but that it’s impossible to play this version in less than 10 hours on average. And that you need a big ass table to play on!  :-D

Most people here seem to love the Anniversary edition but it’s hard to get and I’m not going pay $300+ for a game I’ll  probably play less than 10 times in coming decades.

I understand that the 1942 Spring edition is a really good version but I already know I’m going to be annoyed by the smaller map and the few pieces.

So what are my options with say a $150 budget? I guess I can buy 2 copies of AA1942 to have enough pieces and have one of those great maps Imperious Leader made printed on canvas or vinyl.

Is it also possible to play the 1942 edition on a classic or revised edition map?

Or would it be possible to print a Anniversary edition map & rules and just buy the AA1942 sets to get the pieces combined with additional pieces from historicalboardgaming or fieldmarshalgames?

Hope you guys are willing to share your thought and advise!

      Cheers

      Eric
