    • RE: Which country would I most enjoy playing as?

Herr KaLeun put it well… just adding my opinion as well

I agree that the USA is the best option for you. They have a VERY high income, they are usually easy to play, especially because you almost never have to defend your homeland. The only difficulty playing as the USA is being able to help your allies fast enough. The USA is a pretty loose nation strategy wise, so you should be fine with making some mistakes as long as the USSR player isn’t terrible. Sea battles, sorry can’t help you there. Almost every nation except the USSR has sea battles at some point.

    • RE: Subs

I also have a question about subs. Does each sub get a new surprise attack with each round of combat? This also goes in tandem with my previous question: if a sub conducts a surprise attack, can it still participate in the general combat?

      Thanks!

    • RE: The unevitable question of pieces

To tell you the truth I have never run out of pieces… I’ve gotten pretty close but by the end of your turn some units usually die and are able to be cycled through. I DO run out of chips though… In most cases where I can’t just add more minis I use the country markers as substitutes.

The game does a pretty good job of anticipating what each nation will need. As long as you don’t plan to make the USSR a world naval power or the British use a whole load of ACs, you should generally be fine. (at least in my experience)

    • RE: Assigning players to countries axis

Take, for example, the not-immediately-obvious Japanese air to Ukraine/West Russia/Caucasus trick.

I recently played a game against my friend, where I was the Axis, and I think that the above move probably won me the game. On G1 I threw pretty much all of the available ground units and fighters at the Caucasus in attempts to capture it… this turned out to be a vital move in crippling the Russian deployment options… later on in the game you only have one “front”/IC to worry about. I also moved 1 or 2 fighters to Norway to harass the various allied ships that were not yet organized into a fleet. On J1 I flew 4 fighters to the Caucasus… later on in the game these fighters are even more valuable becuase they can be used to shore up the holes in your German lines, especially when you are pushing to Moscow. Using this joint J and G strategy, I didn’t even have to devote many of my IPCs to attacking Russia as Japan.

Overall, you definently have to be agressive as the Axis right out of the gate.

    • RE: Transports/Amphib Assualt Rules Question

1 more thing… is it ok to carry one armor or one artillery but not one inf? as in just one armor or just one artillery without an inf. unit per transport.

    • RE: Accurate Miniature Equivalents for Custom Painting your 1940 E&P

I’m also hand painting my pieces (they don’t look quite as good as yours… love your infantry roundels) and I was wondering how you do the very delicate details such as the swastika on the german battleship and the numbers on the side of the USSR tanks. ie. what tools you use. I have my own tools that I find pretty handy but not quite as accurate as yours (needles, brushes, shishkabob sticks)  :-)

      great work!

    • Transports/Amphib Assualt Rules Question

If I have a British inf and an armor in England and I would like to attack Norway, can I (a): load them onto a transport and unload via amphib assault into Norway on that same turn? or do I have to (b): load them and then wait a turn to do an amphib assualt (combat move).

This comes up when ever my friend and I play because he shuttles men from Eastern US to Algeria in one turn while I still control it.

    • Industrial Complex Clarification

When you purchase an IC, can you mobolize units on that territory in the same turn? For example, say the UK purchases an IC and 3 armor at the start of their turn. In the mobilization phase, the IC is placed in India. Can you mobolize the 3 armor in India that turn, or do you have to wait for a turn? thanks in advance

    • RE: German Strategy…beef up the navy or straight to Moscow?

The only thing is that you will suffer heavy causalities when attacking the UK Battleship and Cruiser without a joint cooperation of naval attacks. It would be even worse if you attack London with the planes cause you throw in a defending fighter and AA. This is really expensive to upkeep if you have to keep purchasing fighters as a threat. However, I do think fighters are a good threat to the navies; the question is just how to effectively utilize them. Thanks for your input, very helpful

Is that vs. a computer AI or other players? Or both?

    • Best online version?

I have heard people talking about playing online, such as big world and gametableonline and other stuff. What is the best place to play online?

    • German Strategy…beef up the navy or straight to Moscow?

For a G1 and G2 buy/strategy, would it be better to purchase naval and air units to take out the Allied fleets and control the Atlantic, or load up on ground units and fighters to try and punch through Russian lines and head straight to Moscow right out of the gate? Buying a German navy seems like a large chunk if not all of your IPCs that would be “wasted”, considering that the combined UK and US economies can eventually overpower your navy, especially when their is a Russian ground force siphoning away some of your IPCs for defense. Any thoughts?
