Yes, right now my pieces have a satin enamel sprayed on… I find that it goes a long way towards protecting them, but every once in a while they chip. Plus, the containers look snazzy and professional- it’s sort of a “project” I decided to take on. :-)

I’ve handpainted my pieces, so they need a little bit more protection. Thus, I’ve created (am creating) boxes lined with felt with dividers for each individual unit’s size (ex: a compartment for ACs, for infantry, etc.) Then I paint or contact paper some roundels on top of the box, depending on which nations are contained. Voila!

quality over … quantity right?
Of course!
Can’t wait for the Italians! I finished my Luftwaffe, USAF, and Russian Ground Force, and next I’m hoping to do the Italians. Are you almost finished? (of course, quality over quantity…take your time)

That’s a good idea. I’ll just sort of improvise and experiment!
Thanks, Spitfire38

RE: Quick rule clarificationposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
One more thing… Say you are attacking eastern united states from central united states (I know, unlikely, but easiest example of the top of my head) and you have some tanks in western US that you want to use. Can they use their “2 movement points” to contribute to the attack (ie. Move into central US and attack) in 1 turn, or is their striking power only to adjacent hostile territories? (excluding blitzing)
Thanks!

Pics of Painted French Troopsposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I’m custom painting painting my Axis and Allies 1940 set (finished my 1942 set) and I haven’t come across any painted French troops in any of the forums. I use the pics for ideas and was wondering if anybody knows of someone who has painted theirs. I have already looked at allworkandnoclay’s stuff as well as viracocha’s. Any links would be very helpful!!

RE: OOB: German attack on Russiaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Yes, you are probably right. My tank to inf-art proportion is too one-sided but I love having a massive tank army going through Russia even if it is costly and the western front suffers.
well, the point of the game, at least for me, is to have fun! Its just a game, so strategies aside, it’s fun to have a tank army. :-D

RE: OOB: German attack on Russiaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I really like the idea of mech inf. purchases by Germany for Barbarossa. For one, it makes for a good supply chain because they can move 2. My only thoughts are that you might need some more punching power to get throughout the initial Russian lines, especially if your tanks are attacking and occupying France in G2 and G3. Maybe a little bit more tanks on G2 buy or some artillery to put onto the lines for the initial assault. After that, I think mech inf. is a great buy and good strategy. Pair with tactical bombers and you’re good to go :-D

RE: Sea Lion…If and When Pollposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I tend to agree with you… The only problem is I can never seem to get rid of the British navy for good on G1. I usually use the planes for my French assault and start setting up Barbarossa. Any thoughts on how to neutralize the UK navy quickly?
Thanks for the input!

Sea Lion…If and When Pollposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
As I’ve been playing A&A Europe 1940, I’ve been wondering about Operation Sea Lion… The advantages, disadvantages, why, etc. I tend to lean towards Barbarossa for a few reasons, mainly because I feel that amphibious assaults are very limited in their striking power and that they require too much air and naval support for the attack and defense of the supply lines. If other people have different opinions or something to add, that would be great!

Quick rule clarificationposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I’ve played and completely painted my A&A 1942 set, and I just received the Europe 1940 version… I was reading over the different rules and had a few quick questions. First, are the national objective bonuses (5 IPCs, or whatever other amount) received every turn they are completed unless otherwise stated? Second, can someone clarify when exactly Russia and the US can enter into war with Italy and Germany, assuming the Axis powers do not declare war first. Thanks so much in advance! I’m looking forward to painting and playing the new set!

RE: AAA50th painted minisposted in Customizations
Hey guys- stumbled upon this topic, and WOW, I am impressed!
I am also painting my pieces and had a few questions for Viracocha…sorry if it’s too much; I’m like a kid in a candy shop!
1. What did you coat the finished products with? A liquid wash, a spray enamel, a paint on coating?
2. How did you make such amazing bases (rock, sand, grass)? That is SO cool.
3. Do you use a preparatory wash or something before you paint the pieces?
4. How do you do the really intricate details on the infantry? (insignia, etc. Especially on the SS)
5. And lastly (sorry if this is a lot), would you mind giving me an estimate of how much all of this costs you? Excluding the paint and the pieces.
Thank you so much for these great examples and exquisite work! Great job :-D

Painted German Pieces?posted in Customizations
Does anyone know of a user/forum that contains a link to or pictures of painted German pieces? I have already looked at allworkandnoclay’s stuff, but he has not painted them yet. I have A&A 1942, so I am not familiar with the other version’s forums… Anyone come across this?

RE: Which country would I most enjoy playing as?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I would say Russia…
It is very true that Russia only has to worry about a few territories and doesn’t have a lot of buying opportunities. However, Russia is a tactical nightmare for anyone who wants tan easy game… Don’t expect to gain a lot of ground much less win as Russia unless you have REALLY good Allies. They also have a terrible income… But as Keredrex said, you only have to buy land units pretty much.
For simplicity’s sake, yes Russia is easiest. But from a tactical/“winning”/strategy standpoint, it’s pretty hard.

RE: .posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
From one expert to another, what do you do with your British navy in India? I’m on a fact finding mission.
Well, I’m no expert, but I’ll throw in my opinion. If Germany did not capture Egypt, one viable and pretty smart option is to send them through the Suez Canal. In the games I have played, Germany never goes for Egypt on G1… to do this they would have to devote fighters that could be used more effectively in Russia.
I have also seen them move off the coast of Africa near Madagascar, or even just stay in India. This is useful because later in the game the Indian Navy can be used as quite a nuisance to the Japs. Imagine a British carrier with a cruiser, transport, and AUS sub emerging from the South Pacific right about the time an American fleet heads into Jap waters… that’s a lot for the Japs to handle.
Someone earlier talked about killing Jap transport on UK1… I had never thought about that, but it’s a good idea.

RE: Painted Guadalcanalposted in Axis & Allies Guadalcanal
wow, great stuff! What did you use for the American insignia on the carriers and the stars 'n bars on the planes? are they decals or painted… and if painted, how did you do that with such great detail?!
