I prefer Stalingrad, Thin Red Line, or Das Boat.

Who is going to Gen Con Indy?  Anybody made plans to go, I sure hope to hell to make it.  Anybody know if AA50 will be a major part of the experience, I sure hope so.

    • RE: Am I the only one pissed that this has turned into a KGF?

Lately its been working for me as allies to invade north africa with Patton on turn 1 and use my airpower and some newly built naval forces in the atlantic to destroy Italy’s pitiful little navy.  You will need english support in this and it can all go afoul if germans get airpower techs.

    • RE: Soviet 1942 strategy.

I try and get either adv art or mech inf and build up large forces of tanks+men or Artillery+men.  You have to face the fact that as Russia, you must go offensive on the first turn.  You also have to face the fact that to hold off Germany you must do two things, give ground as much as possible while maintaining an advantageous ending position in your fighting withdrawal and 2.  Accept that most of your ground forces (save the tanks hopefully) are going to end up being sacrificed, don’t worry about it, you are STALIN, you have millions of tons of meat for the grinder.  Use your air power in hit and run type attacks and at all costs avoid an all out battle with the Hun.  Try and pincer your enemy but avoid allowing him to attack your big stack until the very end at Moscow.  Avoid going too gung ho into German territory, its a see saw and you cant take Germany alone, keep your forces back in defense and don’t attack the German big stack with your big stack, force him to attack you.  By then you should have allied air support at least and Britain and USA threatening Germany.

The most important factor in playing Russia is to Never ever let the Caucuses fall.  if you can retake it then that’s ok, its only 4 bucks.  However, if Germany/Italy can hold it for a turn and churn out 4 units there as well as Japan landing fighters after its capture thus preventing you from recapturing it, its just a matter of time until your goose is cooked.

    • RE: I need some First Turn USA Strategies… I have one I think

Move all your bombers to England on turn one and buy two tech rolls and go for heavy bombers till you get it.  Then crush them.

    • RE: Can the Allies win in 1942?

I would say that the 42 game is more evenly matched than the 41 game.  Its best to follow certain goals as the allies if you are going to win.  Just last weekend I defeated my best opponent (who usually beats me 3 to 1) in three turns as the allies by invading Germany with only two transports {2 tanks 2 inf}, 5 fighters, 1 heavy bomber, and shore bombardment.
I caught him off gaurd in that he didn’t leave enough hitler youth behind to defend the Reich.  Granted he did have Moscow virtually surrounded with the exception of the caucusses.  Its hard to send adequate forces to Russia and defend your home turf, even if you get mech inf.  That is why as allies I always go for Italy/germany first.  For one thing Japan cannot do much to threaten you for a few turns and by then you can really put the heat on the hun.  I recommend building fighters and carriers as britain (because you can always fly the fighter squadrons to defend russia) and flying all us bombers to the U.K on the first turn and go after the heavy bombers tech as USA.  Build a bomber and eastern fleet units every turn as the USA this will be good for hitting the italian fleet as well as the axis factories.

I absolutely think that the allies can win in 42!! absolutely.

    • RE: Russian Strategy

Every time I try to hold up the north and Moscow at the price of pulling out of Caucasus I pay for it.  Its easy for Germany and Italy to tag team in there on you.  I think its more critical to hold that factory as well since it provides 4 build and protects your entire underbelly.

    • RE: UK ICs

One strategy that worked well for me was building an IC in Australia on the Frist turn, thus giving you two turns to build up inf there before japan can reach it.  I then followed up with buiding an IC in Java after I reclaimed it from Japan.  This required lots of fleet combinations with the U.S. navy as well as considerably more contributions of U.S. money.  It does allow you to build up a sizeable enough force to recapture most if not all of your british colonial holdings and threaten Japans seizure of mainland asia and india.  I still beleive that my strategy would have worked well had not my Japanese opponent hit both Fighterbombers and long range aircraft, which entirely negated my fleets!!! :? :?

    • RE: AA50/41 Japanese strategy

If japan has built at least one air unit per turn (excepting perhaps the first two) and assuming that they are able to achieve the standard asian and island expansion, then definitley go for tech list 2, allot!!!  In my most recent game japan had suffered a few setbacks and was being threatened by a sizable U.S. fleet (thanks to improved shipyards) and also a GB IC in Austalia, as well as one IC on Java.  My japanese opponent first hit fighter bombers (4/4) fighters, then a few turns later he hit long range aircraft and from his strongpoints; India, France, and Japan, he was able to trash my GB an US fleets and alter the the game so much in the axis favor that their victory was assured.  Just an example of how the luck of the dice in reference to technologies can really make your game!!!

Its hard not to KGF when they are so weak and tempting.  Italy being a seperate power makes it much more advantageous.  You can take apart the european axis peicmeal.

    • RE: UK ICs

I would agree with the first post.  Egypt, Australia, India, are all going to fall.  South Africa, canada, and Australia are too far away to really help.

This just illustrates how thin that GB was stretched at the time.  My advise is not to be tempted in buying a factory on the fist turn and using the money for something else.
