Sounds like an official answer ;)
Thanks a lot!

From Eastern US straight into SZ106?
A similar topic as been discussed in this forum “let my son and i talk again…” My question here look similar but is in fact a bit different.
Can we fly a plane straight from Eastern US right into the St. Laurent River (SZ106) for 1 move?
It is obvious that Quebec and New Brunswick touches SZ106. On the other hand it is less for Eastern US.
Your thoughts!

My Strategy for Axis (Europe Only)
Ok, sounds like a lot of guys think it is not necessary to take London to win?
For sure you already have your “sealion” invading force on the board by turn 2 (as demonstrate by Siredblood) but i have to admit that 63 IPC for those 9 missing transports is a lot of money! The main (and maybe only) reason why i thought about taking London (besides extra IPC) was to prevent US/ UK from using it as a launching platform to bomb/ invade mainland Europe by turn 5 and up!!
My current plan is this (almost cut/ paste from Siredblood’s Cobra-Kaï):
G1:
Eliminate Royal Navy in SZ106, 110, 111
Take France (leave normandy/ south France to Italy)
Ping-Pong Yugoslavia back in Romania (Leave it to Italy)
Barbarossa (Bessarabia + Eastern Poland)
Of course annex both Finland and Bulgaria
Build a Minor Complex in Romania (to pump tanks all along)
put a destroyer in SZ113 and regroup navy.
Italy 1
Buy 1 tank & 1 mech (to speed up with both tank from Albania/ North Italy and meet German forces near Bessarabia)G2
Retake Bessarabia (unless Russian player is too dumb to give it a thought)
Take West. Ukraine
Strategic bombing of London
Move all my “Sealion” forces into West. Germany/ Germany (to "bluff away" Sealion)
Pump 3 tanks in Romania and keep all the rest of my IPC (42) to keep my opponent in the dark as much as possible!G3
Take Ukraine
Drop 9 transports in SZ113 + 3 tanks in Romania
Italy 3
“can open” Rostov with tanks and all air force!G4
Tank rush into Stalingrad with all tanks and air power (2 Tac, 2 Strategic)
“Sealion”! Bouum!
Pump 3 tanks in Romania and in Ukraine
Move back 6 of the 7 guys from Finland to Norway (will bridge to uk/ Scotland in T5)G5
Rebuild forces in Stalingrad/ Ukraine, bring some planes
Strat bombing Moscow
Bridge some infantry from Norway to London and 1 to take Scotland
Buy a max of aircraft (strat. and Fighters)
Italy 5
“Regroup and can open” Tambov or Briansk with tanks and all air force!G6
Moscow boum!By then the Axis should have 8 victory cities (Italy’s role is to take Cairo and reinforce by turn 4 max)
I don’t even give a rat ass about Leningrad as it is already way too strong right off the bat!
Also on turn 6 i would start to take back infantry Eastern Poland/ Baltic states/ Romania that might be scattered to turtle them up on Warsaw!
At this point the goal is to hang on tight for 1 turn!Of course all along Italy is putting 3 infantry per turn on South France and move them to Paris on turn5
Italy is also to put 1 destroyer in SZ92 on T4 simply to delay US and buy Axis 1 turn. This strategy is stretched to the max and of course bad/good rolls might turn it into either a brilliant victory or a shameful beating!
Any piece of advise or parts that i am missing?

Best strategy for the Axis in Europe only theater?
Me and my small group started to play not long ago using Europe 1940 only for now.
We had a “tryout” game where we looked at the rules to make sure we grasp the bulk of it but only 2 real game properly speaking! Those 2 games turned out to be 2 crushing defeat for the Axis.
I tried to be creative and i also looked at most of strategies out there like ‘‘Sire Blood’s cobra kai’’, “general hand grenade’s Afrikacorps and Sealion” and some others… to no avail! Then i finally realized that most of these (if not all) videos were explaining Strategies for a “Global” setup of the game! Depending on what Japan is doing USA and even Russia might have to react and spend some IPC in the Pacific theater!
But when playing Europe only what would be the best approach for the Axis knowing that no matter what you do the US and Russia will throw all their full economy right at your skull by round 4?
Thank you in advance!

RE: German IC in Greece
Yeah i knew it sounded like a long shot!
What i forgot to mentioned, and it is my blunder, is that i DON’T plan for Sealion!
I would fake it for some time of course but this not in my plan.I would ultimately take a nice size fleet, assembled in Germany with all the appearances of Sealion, and ‘hopefully’ land on Leningrad on G3 or G4 at latest!
This why the option of threatening SZ 100 from Greece was seductive to me ;) -
German IC in Greece
Hi there,
I am simply a ‘week end’ strategist with limited play time under my belt. For that reason i highly doubt that i would be the only one that ever came up with the idea of marching into Greece on G2, building a minor IC on G3 and adding a naval base on G4.For those who did try, or who know better, what is the real value of this?
Does it hurt Italy or help it?
Does it take too much resources away from the main theater (Russia and Normandy)?
Does it worth it or not?My idea behind it was twofold:
- Project German power into the Med and even Africa.
- With a Naval base on Greece on top of the IC you can even threat a possible landing up to Caucasus!
Your thought?

RE: Barbarossa in Europe only?
Sounds like something i could try!
I always use to destroy UK fleets in SZ110 & SZ111 on turn 1 and then SBR the crap out of UK on subsequent turns but i never taught about SBR Soviet union.I will give it a shot!
P.S. Would you go “all out” for Moscow by the south, taking all the juicy “2 IPC” territories along the way, and keep Leningrad for last? Do you consider a Minor Insdustrial Complex in Romania on turn 1 a bad investment? You can put 3 armor/ mech closer to the front!
I for myself like to do that a lot! -
Barbarossa in Europe only?
Hi there,
When playing Europe only what is the best approach to Barbarossa?I mean no matter what you do the US will never have to split between Japan or Europe and will always put his full economy toward landing in Normandy, Southern France or even Italy on turn 5!
No matter how i look at it i can’t figure out a plausible way to acheive it.
Does it have to be on turn 2-3? Or even on turn 1 like Sireblood and his famous “cobra-kai”?If you can’t take Moscow and Leningrad you cannot win! There is no way Germany could possibly invade Washington or Ottawa right?

About retreat
Since the “ping pong” move is seen more and more i was wondering about something.
The rules are clear and they say that the retreating units must all retreat back to a single adjacent territory where at least one unit is coming from.
My question is about the “where at least one unit is coming from”.
Let say i attack Irak with some infantry from Persia and 1 blitzing tank from Egypt.
I understand that i cannot retreat to Egypt because it is not adjacent but can i retreat to Trans-Jordan even thought my tank is coming from Egypt? In other words is my tank considered coming from Trans-jordan once he gets into Irak?

RE: French National Objective?
Got it you’re right!
I was only looking in the National Objective section (p. 25-26)
Thank you!
-
French National Objective?
i looked at the Europe 1940 Q+A and i saw that France as a NO, the same as in Global.
But in the Europe Rulebook, in the NO for Europe only, they do not talk about France.
Where that “update” is coming from?

About retreating planes
Hi there,
The other day i was playing at the local game store when one opponent got upset on this.
I (Germany) did a “Yugoslavia ping pong” on first turn the usual way.
Then once in the non combat move i brought my fighter to South Italy in order to bolster Italy. Again, a classic move nothing new there. Then that guy went close to mental saying that if i retreat everything has to retreat to same territory (he was not liking the ping pong move to start with saying it was totally cheesy!). I said yes you are right except that the planes can “retreat” as normal non combat move would allow.
In the end i let it go since it’s only a game but that guy made me doubt myself. I am interpreting the rules correctly? -
RE: Real chances of Taranto raid?
Humm… that make sense!
Thanks for the advise.

Real chances of Taranto raid?
Hi there!
A Taranto raid is a very nice idea on paper but what are the real chance of success against decent players (i.e. with a 3rd. German fighter plane to scramble in Southern Italy)?I am not very familiar with this but even if the UK player bring his Strat. from London and fighter from Gibraltar + everything from SZ98 you end up with:
2 @ 4 (strat + tac)
3 @ 3 (2 fighter + Cruiser)
1 @ 2 (Destroyer)
VS
4 @ 4 (3 scrambled fighter + battleship)
1 @ 3 (Cruiser)If you consider that the Italian Battleship can suck up 1 hit but the UK Carrier can’t (otherwise your fighter from Gibraltar is dead anyway) the Taranto raid does not sounds like a great idea to me!
Even if you somehow get out of there barely alive on Italy’s turn he’s going to wash you clean with his fleet from SZ95!
Is it something i am not seeing here?

RE: Not conquering voluntarily?
Thanx a lot Narvik!
This is great stuff. Easy to understand
This summaryse what i think with all games… “learn the rules” or don’t bother to play at all!
Cheers
-
RE: Not conquering voluntarily?
If you destroy all the units in a territory you have to occupy it with all the ground units you used in the attack. You can only retreat after a defender rolls for defense and they have units left.
Thanx Majikforce
This is exactly the precision i needed to understand perfectly. -
Not conquering voluntarily?
Hi there!
I read the rules for weeks now and watch all possible tutorial, “bat rep” and 101’s you can imagine but i am still asking myself a few questions.
Let say i simply want to keep a buffer between me and some sizable enemy force for i am not ready to assault yet.
For example i want to thin down Baltic States because Leningrad is too huge for me and my force in Poland are not yet ready. Then i give one shot at Baltic State from Poland (to thin it down) but against all odds i wipe Baltic States!
Am i allowed to retreat back into Poland after the first round instead of taking control of Baltic States?
