      Looking for more games.

      '42 or '41, tech or no tech.  You make the call and start the bid via PM.  Only stipulation I have:  the loser of game 1 determines whether he wants a rematch with a fresh, new bid.

      Looking for a game or a 3-game series.  I prefer '41 and no tech, but I am flexible for either.  +NO is the only thing that’s really not an option.

    • RE: Calvin found a loophole in Sealion that invalidates the UK naval block!

      @Latro:

      The cruiser block simply isn’t enough. If you go for a 3 transport build, they will fall prey to an air attack from the UK, landing on a newly built carrier. In G2 you could attack the carrier with subs (the air units land in the UK), also aircraft (you lose more air units, or also the battleship (losing protection for a new transport fleet) … neither of these options gives you better odds for operation Sealion during later rounds.

      This is the linchpin in sealion’s failure.  I played a game last night, picked up on it, and hoped to bring it up.  I’m glad someone did, but you’d gladly sac the 26 IPC for Ger’s 28.  Not only is the IPC cost weighted slightly to the axis, it dramatically halts the protection of Scandanavia.  I’m glad 113 isn’t safe as long as there are british planes in UK.

      @Gargantua:

      STOP with the 2 letter acronyms please.

      there are NOT 2 B’s in Battleship. and no V in CARRIER.

      and WTF does AP have to do with TRANSPORTS?  Or does AP stand for Airplane? which would then require a designation for fgt, bmb, or tac.

      Use 3 letters to standardize everything with letters and terms that actually make sense.  It’s really not that hard.

      1 ACC 1 BAT 1 DST 3 TRN much easer to figure out than 1CV 1BB 1 DD 2 AP

      Don’t make Axis and Allies a foriegn language for no reason.  3 letter acronyms are used in battlemap for territories for obvious reasons as well.

      You’d have thought CA might be for carrier?  Nope, try a c word with no a’s.  I thought this was voted on some time before I joined the boards so I kept my mouth shut.  I figured as long as the system was uniform, I could learn them and protest silently.  Now all of the sudden I was gone for a bit and the transport turns into AP?  Musta missed the vote again sigh.  If people want to use the 2-letter acronyms, there should at least be a legend stickied to the top of a board.

    • RE: Tanks too expensive

      Not forgetting, just not up to date on the errata.

      That certainly changes the landscape, improving the value of the art and the mechinf.  I’m still not sure how badly it hurts the tank and its value THAT much as art/mechinf timing COULD be tricky.  I think it will prove to be an interesting dynamic.  I certainly like art as a defensive piece and there’s no doubt it’ll find its uses for me.

      @HolKann:

      You can have 2 mechs + 1 rtl for 2 arm, in defense the mechs + rtl clearly are superior, and in offense they still have a small edge.

      So, 1,1,2 is better than 3,3?  I’ll take the 2 3s.  As the board grows, so too does the value of the faster unit.  I’d argue that artillery took the biggest hit to playability across the European front (still good invading land though obv).  Art are better when they get into the action more quickly (ie close to production areas, for counter attacks and the like).  If you’re needing to get units to an area that’s 4 spaces away, inf and art still aren’t going to be considered, and at 5 why would you consider them for something 3 spaces away?  It’s just 1 game when a tank costs 6, and another when it costs 5.  It’s not better or worse.  You’ll still see more tanks built than subs.

    • RE: German IPCs (SCARY)

      I think the US will start with a bit less money in the atlantic theater.  Maybe have 10/50 on the Pac side for WUS and 10/40 for the EUS.

    • RE: 2011 League Discussion

      IC in Egy isn’t the issue, it’s turn 1 survivability.  A 6 IPC bid means EGY likely does not even lose its ftr on turn 1.  That’s a +7 IPC collection.  The amount of units surviving in Egy + sov support, +7 IPC collection on turn 1 gives Ind a much more viable survival rate.  I think 6-8 IPC is a pretty reasonable bid for 1941.

    • RE: 2011 League Discussion

      I don’t see why there isn’t an allied bid.  I think it’s proof enough in 58% that at least a slight bid is needed.  It probably shouldn’t really ever exceed 3-5 IPC.  Repelling in Egy another 10-15% of the time = 7 more British IPC 10-15% of the time collecting on UK1 = more balance.  An extra attacking piece for USSR is big too, considering how bereft of them they are to start the game.  Also keep in mind, some people still played with a bid in the league anyhow.  I know I’ll request an allied bid for every opponent I have in '41.

      Do you have to retreat land units to a territory you attacked from?

      Ex:
      2 inf trj -> egy.  retreat to Sud.

    • RE: Let Italy Take Africa

      As long as Italy is hitting their two bonuses you should be more than happy.  Doing that doubles their income, who cares how it happens.  The money will be spent in the Atlantic theater regardless.

      My thing is:  don’t romp through Africa at the cost of the Med or N. Africa.  I like to take trj and sud, and keep Egy choked off.  If I’m secure enough I’ll drop a factory in Egy with whoever is there and linchpin the Axis connection through the globe.
