The use of R&Dposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hi, just a question here:
My friends and I never invest in weapons development. It’s not a house rule, it seems like money you’ve could spent better…
What are the arguments for investing in R&D in A&A? And what would you reccomend if you’re gonna do so?

RE: 1951 - endgame: any suggestions?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
It even gets worse: last week we played the second round (10 extra hours of play) and we still have a situation on the board which allows both sides to win. Absolutely crazy! When I’ve got the map ready I’ll share it with you!
This game has been the best game for us ever: 25 hours of play: absolute madness

RE: ANZAC strategy after the hammer fallsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think Anzac should take a clear mission for itself. My last game I assigned to Anzac the occupation and defence of the DEI money islands. These are worth 16 IPC to the allies and even 20 IPC to Japan. I just occupy these islands with just enough infantry to make it difficult for Japan to take them without making a sizeable investment.
Even if Japan makes this investment you have succeeded: Japan is not investing that IPC in China/India!
If JP leaves the islands alone, Anzac can build a fleet to support the US!

RE: Cruisersposted in House Rules
I think you should only buy cruisers if you can’t afford a battleship or 2 subs…

RE: America attacks the neutral Spainposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I am always tempted to use this strategy with the allies. There is however always one thing which holds me from doing so: the Mongolian forces - if Japan can activate these units, I think this will tip the balance on the pacific board in favor of the Axis.
Nevertheless, It would be a disaster for Germany to defend another border, which is so close to france and the US at the same time…

However the US is still allowed to land planes on Iceland or to build a naval base, am I right?

RE: 1951 - endgame: any suggestions?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Interesting thought, the subs are appealing. However I am also affraid Germany will be in Italy quicker, defending/liberating his ally before any real harm can be done. But I always like the idea of having Germany defending on multiple fronts.
BTW why half of the normandy stack?

RE: Hardest Nation to playposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I agree that the USA must be hardest to play well. So much depends on the US´ spending its dollars at the right units in the right theaters. Especially the building of steady supply lines over water is challenging.
Further UK has a though job, never being strong enough to make an actual difference on its own and getting slowly beaten…
I find Germany most demanding, because you have to stay focussed ALL the time…

The envy… Great job! This would certainly be something I´d buy if the Wizzards would bring it to market!

RE: 1951 - endgame: any suggestions?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Well, an option for the minor ic’s in egypt and persia would be to continue to put pressure on germany in russia.
The 8 transports are usa btw.
I like the idea of rebuilding the uk fleet, though i tried it a few times, just to get it sunk by the luftwaffe… So i am not so sure if those expensive units will pay themselve out…

RE: 1951 - endgame: any suggestions?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
We’ve played the year round before breaking up, so yes it is Germany’s turn. Also we play NO and (as said before) play one house rule: VC’s don’t apply, only surrender counts.
My thoughts on Paris are the same, so I am wondering what to do with my 10 UK inf in Normandy. Perhaps move towards Italy?
Also if we were to focus on taking Japan out (which would not result in an axis surrender imho), how would ANZAC and UK pacific be used in the most efficient way?

Hi All,
Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I’ve made a map which is more easy on the eyes. It will be posted in one of the subsequent posts.
I hope you’re still in for some comments to our game and I hope I make it easier for you to analyse the map this way!
Looking forward to your insights! :-)

RE: Battleships are too Expensiveposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
 haha, love the koi-pack, next time as japan i’ll be using that term for sure! :-D
And subs? I love em! They’re flexible, unpredictable, can dive in battles, are imune to airpower, have a sneak attack bonus, can suprise at gibraltar, only sink ships and are cheap! What’s not to like? Buy them and explore the possibilities!
And yes, i do know the destroyer rules

RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Thumbs up for Alpha2+ !!
I’ve played it several times now and though I discover new threats, tactics and opportunities every play, I never had the impression either axis or allies have an unfair advantage.

I think the battleships are a great investment, especially when you have 2 or 3 or so as the core of your fleet. Subsiding them as fodder instead of sinking ships, keeps the your fleet alive near the frontline (instead of rebuilding it at your often distant IC).

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: we play alpha2# with one houserule: vc-rules don’t apply. We play until surrender…

1951 - endgame: any suggestions?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
After an excruciating 18 hours op epic battle, we decided to break up somewhere around 1951. The strain was great and we all had to be early at work next day. Seen all players were still convinced to be able to achieve victory, we decided to document the board and continue in six weeks or so.
Attached you’ll find the setup as we left. France is liberated, USSR is defeated, Japan is marginal, China is in the squeeze between Germany and Japan, UK is weak and doing all it can, ANZAC is ruling the Southeast Pacific, but the Hun is massive and Germany is holding out on all fronts.
I am playing Allies. Do you have any suggestions/observations? All remarks are welcome!!
Cheers!
