I first played in 1984. I got the Milton Bradley version as soon as it hit the shelves.

@coachofmany:
I am in Tulsa
that ain’t very far as i’m in Siloam Springs. Maybe we can hook it up sometime. i have 1 vet i play with here and we have a couple noobs we are bringing along. i am Ken. Nice to meet you.
@Cmdr:
I’da left the darn things as they were and only changed the inscription on new ones…but then, maybe it is thinking like that which caused England to get a bloody nose twice in the colonies? (War of Colonial Insurrection 1, War of Colonial Insurrection 2 (1812))
that’s what the limeys call it?? Bwaaaahahaha!!!
Just wondering if i have any locals on here. :mrgreen:
I saw in the Spring 1942 forum some1 made a new Battle Board - Game Aids - IPC Chart
Any1 making this for 2nd edition? Would be great i think!
i 2nd this! Would love a big battleboard and would REALLY love a technology chart since it’s now not part of the game.
So at this time who do think has the advantage? I have not played yet and it looks like the Axis has an advantage. Can you also give me some good advice as I will be playing the Axis? Thanks.
i would agree axis are a bit strong but not ridiculously so.
i like them but some are WAY too powerful. i prefer the 1 time per games and the historical ones like japan’s island infantry fukkaku, russian winter, joint strike, marines, and atlantic wall.
@Der:
Hello all - a spare bedroom opened up in my basement and I’ve converted it into my own war room. The centerpiece is Imperious Leader’s excellent 1942 map which I downloaded to a zip file and took to a local printer.
First an overall view of the table in the room:
Another view - propaganda posters and newspaper clippings from WWII are framed on the walls:
Next the ceiling: 2 strips of bright studio lights. A historic flag from each major nation in WWII is draped to the corners:
Handmade wood and felt dice rolling trays on both sides of the map keep the dice from hitting other pieces:
Handmade wooden trays for each nation:
This map on the wall is a copy of an actual German invasion map - circa Sept. 1942 - Stalingrad.
The closet was converted into a nook with a 40’s look. I keep all my extra pieces and game parts in the dresser below and the radio plays Cds with 40’s music:
A custom production chart at the head of the table - made of sheet metal with magnetic markers:
My custom battle-boards are double sided “attack” and “defense” to increase size and utility - each side of the table has it’s own that can be flipped over according to the situation:

Lastly, to avoid those disastrous game ending spills - everyone has his own cup holder under the table. House rule: no drinks on the table!
I’ve been wanting to something like this for 25 years - finally have the space and a good tolerant wife. Now the guys can play and just walk off and shut the door and it will all be there next time. Thanks again to Imperious Leader for the great map!
Just wow! amazing, really.
i was 1-1 with Allies, 1-0 with axis. we will probably bid for axis next time but no way it’ll get above 10 i’d guess. axis are very stout but can be beaten.
Did Germany buy any ships in your game? I feel that Germany needs to go hard and fast after Russia.
no, i sunk everything and UK bought ftrs and India units when i peter rolled them. russia has got to go. also, west russia is a strategic conduit from stalingrad to leningrad. get inf there. if russia attacks, kill their ftrs and tanks at all costs! they’ll NEVER be able to replace them.When i was Allies (we played 3 8-10 hour games this weekend) i bought 1ftr and infantry on R1 and infantry from then on and those 3 ftrs were a serious thorn to germany. it alowed me to keep stalingrad and just back-and-forth in west russia and leningrad. stalingrad is a 4 AND directly connected to russia. from leningrad to stalingrad or russia is 2 moves so the stacks need to be in west russia and stalingrad. i kept 3 ftrs and both AAAs in stalingrad and when it finally dropped it spelled the end for germany NOT russia. i killed 2 ftrs w/ AAA and lost like 14 inf 3ftrs and 2 AAAs. germany lost 8 inf 4 tanks and ALL 5 ftrs AND a bomber. he then get a row of inf from west russia shoved down his throat.
sink the brits w/ Luftwaffe and subs, get ur inf to west russia then send the tanks.
I am thinking that the attack on Egypt is must now with the 2 games you won as the Allies. I have not played the new game yet and I cannot wait, I will be the Axis. Do you have any other advice as the axis player in this new ediition?
put your fleets together and squash the USA lol.
Amazingly i won with the Allies once although i lost with them the 1st game. I ended up crushing a 4 carrier Jap fleet and had a IC on the Phillipines with a freaking armada. KJF!!!
Queston for everyone. Is it worth while to spend any money with Germany on ships or should I just drive towards Russia and not buy any ships. If the Uk bilds ships, I can use my planes to take care of them. Thoughts???
Hookers and booze…forget the war and just party!
titties and beer! nipples and nugs!
@wittman:
Just 2 players? Enjoy it and tell us how it goes down and what you think of it.
3 actually but my son will be following orders lol. It’s pretty hard to get a full game around here but we both have played for awhile so it should be a good game.
I missed the boat on AA50 and passed on 41 & 42. I got 42 2nd yesterday and am super stoked. Headed to my buddy’s to grind it out. First played A&A in 1987. Glad to be back in the saddle.
I agree with COW here….gambling is part of the action…no risk, no reward. The more risk, the bigger the reward.
This is why people lose…and blame the dice.
If I’m playing as the Germans, I just blame the jews.
LOL! Now THAT’S roleplaying right there.
I am refraining from buying the 2nd Edition until I read more reviews on this website.
if you are like me and can’t afford AA50 ($500!!), this is the best option.
@Cow:
So you are attacking Ukraine on R1 with only one fighter? Seems risky.
Russia has tanks and arty and inf in caucasus. You don’t have the balls to attack? Seriously? you can all in west russia as well. No balls for that either?
Man how do you not lose every game? You are so predictable. the fighter for egypt makes it hold as he can only get 4 guys and a bomber on it. vs 3 guys and 2 fighters.
That is a bomber not sinking a battleship.
The aggressive player gets all the advantages, because he forces you to make choices instead of being able to do a little bit of everything.
G1 starts with many battles, I just prefer to add more so he can’t do them all. That is standard 1942 play.
With russia slamming in, how can he possibly keep the united kingdom at bay?
IT IS CALLED WRESTLING THE ALIGATOR, WHICH IS WHAT WW2 EUROPE WAS ALL ABOUT THE RUSSIANS COME IN ALL CRAZYLIKE TRYING TO GRAB THE MOUTH WHILE UK KEEPS THE TAIL FROM SLAPPING EVERYONE SILLY AND AMERICA PUNCHES THE BEAST IN THE GUT TO KEEP IT FROM SWALLOWING SOMEONE WHOLE. PLAY THE GAME THE WAY IT HAS BEEN TRADITIONALLY PLAYED FOR 8 YEARS BEFORE GIVING AN ANALYSIS. THIS MEANS NORWAY/WESTEUROPE/NORTH IS ALL UK, EAST IS ALL RUSSIA, SOUTH IS ALL USA SOMETIMES UK AND USA MERGES TOGETHER ON THE WEST. PLAY THE GAME.
great analogy Cow
