@insanehoshi There really are not any tweaks for 2-player, thus the problem. Square peg, round hole.

@trig BBR 3.0 has Juneau. 3rd player unlikely. It should not be marketed as possible 2-player then. Just state it is a 3-player game.

@insanehoshi That is my point, broken 2-player game.

Slowly house ruling GW36 into a G40/BBR/GW36 hybrid for 2-playersposted in Global War 1936
Well, 25 games in and we have house ruled GW36 into some Global 1940, Bloodbath Rules and GW 1936 hybrid. The OOB rules for 2-player make very little sense at all. Pity a 2-player version that works isn’t provided.
Adjustments:
- The C.C.P. is controlled by Japan until war with Japan or end of the Civil War work ok. It can create a Chinese civil war if Japan plans on invading China. If not, the C.C.P. can attempt to become a major power by rolling for control of the warlords.
- Converted to BBR v3 VP point system (scrapped the OOB point system). Added Madrid as a VP and removed Juneau
- Changed the Atlantic wall to just France territories (3)
- Added Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark and S. Norway as a VP
- Added a transport for Italy, just doesn’t make sense they have colonies and no sea transport.
- Changed the BBR VP level for Japan to 50 IPPs, from 52 in BBR, per the OOB rules
- Changing the ability to invade Poland or any neutral prior to Jul 1939 = only 1 D12 for UK and 1D6 for France. The game becomes scripted for the Germans because of the high cost of invading neutrals (i.e. so many D12 for UK). The Germans cannot really invade Yugoslavia or try anything else other than France-Poland.
- Finland - going to try to make it “pro-axis” as in G1940. The Molotov agreement never gets enacted in 2-player. Might explore making a die roll for enacting and a die roll for # of turn in effect…or something.
- The Soviet navy cannot move through the Bosphorus strait (it just makes a Soviet navy too powerful and it can mirror any attempt to move the Germany navy out into the Atlantic or Med and sink it).
We have played too many 2-player broken rule games for GW 1936. It was fun to learn the game but it has become frustrating and because there are no viable 2-players rules, we have to piece together what we can.
Why not just play G40 or BBR? Because there are units, “politics”, the SCW, Vichy, etc. that make it an interesting concept. The map in general is more interesting as well.
Yes, it is a bastardization but we had reached the limit of what we could do with the OOB and 2 players.
Open to ideas, comments, etc.

RE: Spanish Civil War - 2 players - Issuesposted in Global War 1936
@insanehoshi If anyone attacks a Republican Spain (page 57), it aligns with the Soviets. Then the Soviets could allow the US to have Leon Castille for example after the USA attacks Spain.

Spanish Civil War - 2 players - Issuesposted in Global War 1936
Here is another issue when playing with 2 players.
-
If Germany wins the SCW there is very little deterrence to America just landing in Spain (unlike in G40 which turn all the neutrals pro-Axis). Spain is probably weak and an easy win. This leaves America likely in defensible mountains. Perhaps with a factory and access to France, Med, etc. Germany might get or two IPP and a minor factory a turn…big deal. The US gets an airbase, shipyard, etc.
-
If Soviets/Republicans win they can just open up a space for the Americans to invade. So what, and even good. Spain will align to the Soviets. Soviets still get their VP for winning.
I suppose the Germans can put a force in Aquitaine to buffer, attack, etc. but more units to sit around doing nothing.
Seems like there should be a larger deterrence/consequences to invading Spain.
Why would the Germans even want to win the SCW? Better to save the $ and just invade it, take the IPP, factory, open the way to Gibraltar and defend it.
Suggestions? Anyone encountered this issue?

@gen-manstein That works. Which map is that?

@trig Ok…that helps justify the up front 4 IPP in support.

@trig Cool, seems so. Hopefully in the next version they can tweak the map just a tad. TY

It looks like it, the map could have been clearer, but does Iraq have access to SZ 84?

Does the German/Condor transport in the SCW expansion also get repatriated to Germany at the conclusion of the SCW?

Scramble from Carriers?posted in Global War 1936
Don’t suppose carriers act as air bases and allow scramble to protect adjacent land territories?

@noneshallpass It does, unfortunately the rules are vague.

RE: Strategic Rockets (v3)posted in Global War 1936
@aftertaste V2 rockets were mobile.
“Following Operation Crossbow bombing, initial plans for launching from the massive underground Watten, Wizernes and Sottevast bunkers or from fixed pads such as near the Château du Molay[43] were dropped in favour of mobile launching.” (Wikipedia)

Can the Italian air unit that can deploy to the Balearic Islands (2.4) then be moved to mainland Spain in a subsequent turn? Or does it have to remain on the Balearic Islands and if so, then what is the point?..nobody cares about those Islands during the SCW.
“Italy may send 1 of its own Air Units, representing the Aviazione Legionaria (see 2.2) to the Balearic Islands”

RE: How to incent Chinese Civil War battles in 2-play?posted in Global War 1936
@noneshallpass With the same player controlling both sides of the civil war, nothing happens and it kind of defeats the purpose. Letting the Japanese control it until China is at war at least provides for some different attempts. Not perfect but more fun than a single player controlling both. There needs be some adjustments for a 2-player scenario or don’t include 2-player set-up in the rules and stress that it is 3-player game. It is still fun, but this remains one frustrating part of the game and is significant as it could be the deciding factor is Japan even invades China. Japan invading China is becoming a “hard pass” in most of our games.

RE: Bloodbath Rules Victory Conditions (convert to GW36?)posted in Global War 1936
@trig Netherlands, Denmark are almost a nice buffer against landings. Norway no pushover and have to leave protected waters to amphib unlike the G40 map. One may never recoup the IPP needed to take Norway.

RE: Bloodbath Rules Victory Conditions (convert to GW36?)posted in Global War 1936
@trig Some of the BBR ones are difficult too on the BBR/G40 map, like the Atlantic Wall. Overall, I think it is going to work well. We tweaked the Atlantic Wall to include just the 3 French Atlantic coast territories. One can also build a fortification to satisfy the VP requirement, but one would probably have ground troops anyway. One problem is the absence of an Italian transport, we might add one in the set-up. We played 20 games with OOB GW36 VPs and honestly we never even finished a game and counted up the points. We usually just called it much before that point.
What is great about BBR, it can be a nail biter and opens so many possibilities. In the OOB GW36, Italy is pretty limited. The Pacific Islands VP also put the smaller islands into play, which can be pretty fun and the Allies have to plan for such an event.
So far we have added occupy/control Denmark, Netherlands and Southern Norway as a VP. In 20 games, Germany has never bothered to take Norway nor Denmark. All it does is drive up IPP Allie die rolls. At least there might be a reason now.

RE: How to incent Chinese Civil War battles in 2-play?posted in Global War 1936
@trig Yeah…it probably the most broken part of the game. Unfortunately, anything that comes down to “purity” and spirit of the game feels forced and artificial. Looking at the Chinese Civil War expansion for ideas.
