      @John:

      siredblood, your Russians are cool. I haven’t seen anyone paint their ground force vehicles, the way you have painted them. I love the way your navy looks. Superb job on this set. :-D

      John

      Thanks, though you lost me, not sure what you men about the ground units… color?

      Ive had a few redo’s here and there, trying to keep army’s noticeably different on the board. Ive also had to redo some markings on the units, not so much historically accurate anymore, but more game friendly. Our game last week, one of the players got confused on the British and French warships, so even though the British didn’t use roundels on the navy, well… they have roundels now lol.

      Another edit is Italy, the game roundel is not really on any unit, they use the … um, lost it…cant remember the name, but the 3 line marker… anyway, so since the units are equipped with that mark, ill be replacing all the roundels in the game to match.

      There are many more edits, due to markings.

      Finally new pics, been super busy with other customizations (will show those topics another day)

      First off, I mentioned in the France post, Russia reclaimed all their stuff :) In addition I replaced the T34 with T34 from HBG, and also added some T26. The Trucks were also replaced with HBG variants… as I like the open bed look of the HBG piece over the solid top original piece.

      The long road is almost over, Germany is done, Anzac is 80% and Italy is 60% … Ill post Germany in a few days, here is a sneak peak though, from our game last week.

      Thanks for looking!

      After several painting styles for these common pieces, I’ve finally got it! I’ll post the final product later in the week, at that time I’ll make the air and naval pieces available to those interested.

      Thanks guys! Those Brit troops gave me some trouble, actually ended up painting them twice, that’s the thing with acrillic, dries darker. Also, since I wash them in stain, they need to be a few shades lighter then the color I’m after, pain in the rear lol. Thanks again for the comments!

      Russia is done, waiting for more decals to come in, hopefully by thurs. Working on Germany now. Can’t wait to wrap these up so I can get back to the map.

      A tad more exciting over China units, the British :)

      I went with this scheme, as whenever I can do …NOT green, that’s what I go with. I did actually make a few green, but changed my mind in the end, returning them to yellow.

      I added more tanks/variants, and also added more troops. You’ll notice some of the troops originally had shorts on, but I filled it with paint haha (though keeping some shorts fellows)

      I replaced all the fighters with fighters from my older games, the ones that came with 1940 SE are incorrect with the flat wings, my older ones are correct with the arch… also giving them a bigger air force.

      I was a little bummed I couldn’t get tank decals, and I had to paint them :( Also, I ran out of the round decals, so ill need to get more sometime.

      174 pieces for Great Britain, up next Russia! Thanks for looking!

      China is up, replaced the P-38 with a fighter that looks more like the Flying Tigers, I used the Brit fighter. Gave them a few artillery, nothing special, a few extras I had laying around. I found a few color schemes for the troops, I chose the light blue-ish as tan and green are already spoken for in that region…. They kinda remind me of an old Bruce Lee movie :)

      Next up, Great Britain!

      Thanks for the comment, let me know how that printer works out. I’m tempted to design a major base, I like the one from risk, but I think I can make one that takes up less space. If i do, I’ll also mold the minor factory and cast the 4 piece set in pewter.

      @John:

      Did you make the towers yourself, if so how did you do it? 3D print? Just curious!

      However you did it. Props, to a cool looking piece. :-D

      I WISH I had a 3d printer, I actually looked for one before this mission, as Ive made 1000’s of 3d models for games, but didn’t want to shell out a few hundred bucks for a sucky one, then have to buy the stock…. then hope the printer works right, I read many complaints on 3d printers (unless I shelled out 2500 bucks… seems those work lol). I hand carved the upper tower out of balsa wood, the bottom was cut from the risk game piece, most of us use for the major complex… youll notice the naval base has the small factory from that same risk piece in the design.

      Thanks Spitfire! Curious, how long did it take for you to paint those units on your thread? Ive been working around the clock to get these done, and man, im running out of steam  :-o …. and im getting tired of all these pieces/paints all over my dining area lol. Im thinking I may have another month… if my hands hold out that is… I actually have a game scheduled on the 12th, which is what im hoping for, have all these done, but im thinking ill be down a county or 2 :(

      Thanks guys for the comments! I would had posted the Naval base pic along with the tower, but it wasn’t quite done, and I wasn’t planning on working on it, but after I posted the pic of the tower, I decided to wrap it up lol. The mold is curing, so with luck ill be posting pics tomorrow… fingers crossed :)

      Seeing your infantry colored bases, im thinking if I like that better then I what I decided to do, which was all dark green (mainly to blend into the map)… time will tell!

    • Custom Facilities Project

      Just wanted to post a pic of my custom Air Base piece, Thought using a control tower seemed the most useful, easy to pick up, and the base is actually smaller then the cardboard.

      The mold for casting will be underway this weekend, I hope to post here again Sunday of the casted result…. fingers crossed :)

      EDIT 10/30 UPDATE–

      Here is the final cast, I set up a side by side for size relation, and a few on the board. I made 30 of each, should cover what I need, ive never ran out of cardboard during a game.

      Not 100% sure what color im going to paint the factories/bases, I kinda like the light gray, going to let it linger a bit before I decide, I do know I don’t want them detailed painted like the units, I want these to be plain like they are now, just the same color.

      Hope you like them, thanks for looking!

      This side project really took longer then I thought, didn’t get a chance to really paint too much and work on the map this past week…. I should still be posting pics of China tomorrow though.

      @LHoffman:

      Very nice work. I agree with DK, your color tones are spot on.

      Nice touch in adding the medic symbol on some of the US infantry. Never seen that before.

      Thanks for the comment! On the back of the helmets of some of the US forces, I also added the rank bars haha.
