      Tricks to prevent Tarento…

      1. Sink the Cruiser in SZ 91 with two subs.
      2. Try to have the British fighters in G-B scramble (not avalaible for Med).
      3. Send a German fighter at Southern Italy’s airbase to help defend the fleet.

      And if the odds for your Tarento defense are too bad, don’t scramble your planes and let the Luftwaffe clear the remaining Royal Navy ships on G2.

      My opponent yesterday sent two subs G1 to sink my Cruiser in SZ 91. She went to the bottom without even knowing what has happened. I tryed to make him pay for this by scrambling the RAF in SZ 110 but just killed two planes and the BB.

      I still went Tarento with what forces avalaible on the Med and got lucky, sinking everything in SZ 96 and 97 and losing only the CV and DD. All my planes landed in Malta.

      I used my strategic bomber in Britain and my Canadian destroyer to sink the two little bastards subs at Gibraltar.

      Tanks buys can be great also to strike Germany hard if they try Sealion (successful or not).

      That’s what happened. I got counter/countered because I stayed in the fight for too long in Eastern Poland instead of retreating my troops to Western Ukraine. I think that my opponent is an experienced one but that he spent too much IPC in my opinion in the first German turns to counter UK Europe with Bombers and Subs buys (altough the planes helped a lot to take Moskow).

      My last attack on Briansk shouldn’t have been made. He had not enough ground troops to take Moskow the following turn. I liked a lot to be aggressive with the Red Army but that last attack wasn’t necessary at all. A power trip of mine I think. :evil:

      Tanks for Russia!

      Last game I played with the Allies, my strategy with Russia was to buy six tanks a turn ( 3 to Novgorod, 3 to Ukraine) as well as pulling every inf, mech arty, tanks in Belarus or Western Ukraine to strike back at a German push in East Poland. By doing this, I hoped to delay Barbarossa until G4, thus buying time for the Siberian troops to get to Moscow (First 6 reinforcement R6).

      At first, it worked perfectly. My opponent could not start invading Russia without fear of being killed by my counterstrike. He launched a heavy Barb G4. I stricked him with everything I had and got really good dices but stayed in the fight for too long, taking Eastern Poland with 8 tanks who got smashed by Luftwaffe/Wehrmacht attacks G5. My initial idea was to not take the territory and retreat to Western Ukraine under Inf cover but I’ve been to greedy. My opponent was at Moscow’s gates by G7 and I attacked him again, this time with bad dices, and lost too many men so he got my capital G8 (still won the game by dominating the Pacific and preventing Germany from taking Cairo). My Siberian troops doesn’t made it back also because I choose wrongly to annoy Japan with them.

      I think that my initial idea of buying tanks for Russia, start retreating R4 (mixed with full Inf/Art buys in Moscow) and catch with the Siberians R6 is a good one. Had I not been so aggressive, it would have worked better for Russia. What do you think of this strategy?

    • RE: London falls, US takes Canada?

      I’d like to have Krieghund or any other seasoned columnist of this forum confirm this point. I always used to think that once a power capital is captured, an allied player of that power could “take care” of these territories by walkink/rolling on them in non-combat move.

      @cressman8064:

      Cyprus is a good landing zone for British air after making a strafe of under-protected Italian transports.

      I did it three times against two different italian players. Very frustrating for them, especially when I did it for a second time on one of them :-D.

      @HMS_Artemis:

      What’d you do to deal with the Italian infantry and Artillery in Somalia?

      Personnaly, i bring an inf and art from India with the cruiser to bombard, inf from Sudan and mech from Egypt. It’s my standard move and I never lost that battle every game I played as the Allies.

      I do this attack against Ethiopia, not Somalia, sorry. It allow me to kill the two italian inf and the art there without weakening the Med front.

    • RE: Pearl Harbor?

      It looks like most of the time the only turn in the game to perform a Pearl Harbor attack is the first one. The US Navy (and the Royal Navy BB too) cannot run. You sink expensive hardware for relatively low losses on your side. After that, USA must be bullied every turn to prevent it from gaining must of their NOs and to get yours.

      @Gallo:

      @Funcioneta:

      Also, one pool option is wrong! There is was not Castro in Cuba in the 40s, but Batista!  :-D So, unless that the game lasts until early 60s (like round 50?  :lol: ), no chance of uncle Joe to hide in La Habana.

      I know, but since the poll was just for fun I decided to go for the funny but historically inacurate rather than for… well, for whatever the oposite is ;)

      Other options for Stalin to hide? Mexico? Unlikely since Trotsky had already been there?

      Trotsky have been killed by a Soviet agent sent by Staline in 1940. So the place would be ready to receive Old Joseph in his Soviet sub.

    • RE: Vichy France and the French Navy

      Historically, french territories in a Vichy rules system should be distributed like this…

      Germany (or Italy): Paris, Normandy/Bordeaux (6 IPC).
      Vichy France: Southern France, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, French West Africa, Syria, Madagascar and French Indochina (11 IPC).
      Free France: French Central Africa, French Equatorial Africa, New Hebrides (2 IPC).

      The French Navy should remain Vichy, considering the treacherous British attack on the French Fleet at Mers-el-Kébir.

      Every Vichy territories captured by the allies should be switched back to Free France.

      I’m not sure how units could be placed on the map for Free France. Maybe they could be allowed to place directly in French equatorial Africa (or in London!) but could only buy infantry.

      @special:

      i think UK will be buying subs

      That’s why it would be important to replace one sub buy in G1 by a destroyer. You have the money to do it.

    • RE: G2 Barbarossa

      I didn’t play a lot of games since the release of G40. Attacking Russia from G2 looks good but by doing this, UK would have a much easier time putting pressure on Italy with it’s IC in South Africa.

      Often, after taking Egypt, Italy barely have time to lick it’s wounds before US kicks in and the struggle with UK would be even harder with this strategy.

      A major Skoda IC in Slovakia is a big waste of IPCs in my opinon because after turn two will be around 46 IPC, not enough for maximizing your two ICs in Germany, espacialy if you keep buying navy.

      Why not build up until G4 with a mix of slow units for the front lines and a mix of mech/tanks which could be released in Western Ukraine after an I3 can opener?

      This way, you could get the 4 IPV for Yugo and Greece and benefit two more turns from your 5 IPC NO for being at peace with the Soviets while they would not get their two turns 5 IPC NO for being at war with you. All in all, it gives the Axis a 28 IPC advantage , 58 if you cancel the Skoda IC and a much stronger attacking force to enter Russia.

      Just my two cents but I only played three G40 games so far.

    • RE: Transport questions

      I like this topic a lot! Their opinion was that tanks could move one space and use their second move to board a transport and after the boat ride, offload somewhere.  I see now that they were wrong and I was right! I would have two more questions like this.

      1- Is it correct for a plane to move four space as a combat move to attack a target in a sea zone and then land on a friendly aircraft carrier present in that sea zone in non-combat move? It seems to me like a five space attack.

      2-To retake the example on an above post, would it be correct for Germany to capture Paris in G1 and then reinforce it in non-combat with tanks from Greater Southern Germany? In my opinion, if an aircraft cannot land in non-combat in a tt captured the same turn, why could we reinforce with land units? The same could apply to crossing a newly captured territory in non-combat.

      What do you think of these two statements?

    • RE: Axis must send a couple Italian units into Russia!

      You may use the tank and the two infantries in Albania with maybe an artillery and/or an infantry from Northern Italy. This way, Italy would have done it’s part of the deal for Barbarossa and appease Hitler’s demands about it.

      Always in the middle of the brawl, the German player can give punishing blows to the three major Allied powers and help Italy also.

      Instead of waiting for a German attack, why not send troops to bother Japan? The mechs and tanks can be send to China and the three Russian planes can be used to support the 18 infantry stack on the Far East.

      My friend and have been playing a game for two days and this strategy helped me a lot to keep India alive. This way, UK and China can deliver some solid blows to Japan and help the US player positionn himself in the Pacific.

      this will work in Global but this is Europe…Sire  :wink:

      Oups! Wrong board. Sorry guys. I was too excited yesterday from my game and I forgot to check.
