So to clarify:
May Russians enter china in both G40 (prior & after DOW) and G42 without voiding Mongolian Rule?
After DOW may Russia attack Japanese controlled territories in China so long as they DO NOT border Mongolia and still keep the Mongol activation from being VOID?
May Russian troops act defensively in Chinese territories bordering Mongolia without voiding the rule?
Thanks!
Is Brazil with the US?
Is all of Persia with the UK?
Per the Global 1942 Setup rules Persia starts with a British control marker. Eastern Persia does not.
Is Brazil with the US?
Brazil starts as Neutral Pro-Allies just like Global 40
But Russia and Japan are already at war. So, shouldn’t this alter things a bit?
Quote From Mongolia Rules Clarification post:
So, I’m guessing this means Russia can enter China. Russia just can’t attack any Japanese controlled Chinese territory that us adjacent to Mongolia. However Russia can still attack other Japanese Controlled Chinese Territories.
If this isn’t correct, please let me know.
Thanks for the clarification!
Yes, Imperialdefence and I play G42 quite a bit. Feel free to ask us any questions. The only thing we are not certain about is how Mongolia should be handled.
We play that Russians may enter china but may not attack Japanese units otherwise Mongolia remains neutral. However Japan may attack Chinese territories containing Russian units without activating the Mongols. If Japan attacks any Russian territory adjacent to Mongolia then the Mongol troops are activated.
I’ve known Jake for the last few years. I met him at Spring Gathering in Cincinnati back in 2012.
He’s a great competitor.
He actually drove all the way down from Michigan for the event.
FMG Con isn’t fat and ugly!
GenCon is just cheaper for me for a few reasons.
1. I can drive.
2. I’ve got a friend in Indy that I stay with.
So, all in all GenCon is quite a bit cheaper for me.
That being said, I hope to come up some day to play with you guys.
As promised here is a recap of our event with pictures:
I’ve posted photos from our event to our local Meetup Group’s page.
http://www.meetup.com/Nashville-Axis-Allies-Meetup/photos/
We had a total of 14 attend. A few of those that RSVP’ed were unable to make it. 1 drove from Michigan and another from Indiana. Everyone else was from Tennessee and Kentucky.
We had 4 teams playing Global 1942 and 2 playing 1942. We also had a few side games of 1914.
We had a drawing for prizes. Everyone walked away with something thanks to our gracious sponsors, Historical Board Gaming and Field Marshall Games. Pictures of the prizes are on the meetup page. The Grand prize was a German WWII helmet provided by the event organizer, Luke Collins. Most everyone that attended played at GenCon or some other gaming conference previously. But there were a handful of guys who had never played in a conference setting before. As you guys know it’s not always easy to find gaming partners. One guy hadn’t played in nearly a decade but is an avid reader of axisandallies.org. Another guy owns most of the games but hasn’t played anyone other than himself since Global was first released.
Everyone had a great time and appreciated the fellowship of like minded gamers.
We plan to have this again next year. I hope more of you guys can come.
I wish I could come. It’s just too close to GenCon, Aug 14-17, for me to do both. I wish you all a great success with the event!
I’d love to come. But a number of factors will need to align for me to be able to attend. Keep us updated. I hope it’s a great success!
Thank you David! And Thank you Jeremy at Field Marshall Games and Doug at Historical Board Gaming for your support in getting this event off to a great start!
As of now we are up to 20 attendees. It should be a great weekend.
I’ll be sure to post pictures of the event.
Thanks Again!
Brian
As of today we have a total of 13 RSVP’s, 5 maybe’s and another 3 confirmed by phone.
We are looking forward to paling next month.
If you are interested, please let me know and I’ll send you the details.
So far we have about 10 verbal RSVP’s. We were at GenCon and gathered a number of emails from players. We hope to make it an annual event.
We’ll certainly post pictures and keep you guys updated!

Based on the old save I was looking at Russia didn’t have too many units to strike with as they were mostly in Leningrad and Ukraine. The 6 transports were purchased and enough troops held back from eastern front to use. UK had spent all of the past few buys on Africa. So, the fall of Britain really could have been prevented.
I went back and looked at some old saves from last month. I can’t remember with certainty that this is all correct, because I didn’t save the end of the game file. But I believe the Germans retreated and then pushed the Russians back to the 1940 starting borders and successfully invaded UK in turn 4 or 5. The US and Japan were stalemated in the Pacific and US forces in Europe were stranded in Gibraltor. Italy had taken Egypt and the factory there.
After the fall of UK the allies capitulated.
ImperialDefence, please correct me if I’ve got this wrong.
Whackamatt, thank you for your contribution. Your interpretation of the rule seems spot on to me.
We’ve completed 5 games of '42 with only 1 axis victory against a bid for allies.
We also thought the axis were disadvantaged and changed to a bid for the axis.
Axis won soundly with a large bid of 22. We plan to try a bid for the axis in the range of 10-12 next time we play.
1942 setup starts with Russia and Japan at war. However the rule remains untrggered.
@Global:
…if Japan attacks any Soviet-controlled territory that is adjacent to any Mongolian territory, all Mongolian territories that are still strict neutral or pro-Allies… are placed under the control of the Soviet Union at the end of Japan’s Conduct Combat phase… This occurs regardless of the state of relations between the Soviet Union and Japan at the time of the attack, with one exception: If the Soviet Union attacks Korea or any Japan-controlled territory bordering these Mongolian territories while Mongolia is still a strict neutral…
The Mongolian Rule was unclear to us. In both games we played that Soviet’s could enter China and participate in defensive battles since they are at war with Japan. However, if they attacked the Japanese first or invaded a Japanese territory then the Mongolians would never mobilize.
Any other views on this?
Our gaming group has come to the conclusion that some bid is needed to balance the game for the Allies. In reading through the posts it seems to me that the general consensus is that the Allies need a bid of about 9-12.
My questions are:
- Is a bid of 9-12 the current and reasonable amount? As we will not want to bid for a particular side, we will set a certain bid point for each game and then let people choose which side they want to be as some Players enjoy playing particular Powers. So what is a fair bid?
Yes, 8-12 is reasonable. My friend and I often take turns giving a bid of 12 to the allies.
- Is this bid added as starting income to be spent on Turn 1?
The bid is used to purchase units and place them before the game begins.
- Is this bid added as units and money such as the Revised FIDA bid?
I am not familiar with FIDA bid.
- Is this bid added as units on the board with remainders as starting money?
In our games we only allow units. Any left over funds are forfeit.
- For any units placed on the board are there any restrictions? For example:
a) Must have a unit already in the territory / sea zone?
Yes, however we do not limit the types of units so long there is any type of unit in the territory. For example you cannot place an ANZAC infantry in New Guinea where there are no units currently. However, you can place infantry or tanks in Gibraltor where there is only a fighter.
b) May not place more than X number of units?
No, we allow any units that can be purchased with the bid amount.Additionally in our games we set the requirement that the a bid of more than 10 must be split between the two sides of the map. The bid doesn’t have to perfectly balance. For example with a bid of 12 2 infantry may be placed in burma, and 2 in Gibraltor. This is completely optional. I know many others that do not set this requirement.
I would appreciate your kind thoughts and comments. Thank you…
I dug through the file and found where the 6 infantry in Amur were listed. I changed the number to ‘0’ so they no longer appear in the game.
