Hmm, I think I may have thought that the UK air couldn’t all attack Rome.

Yeah, the loss of southern Italy will seal it but it was over already anyway. Japan will never recover and allies will continue to get stronger, even if russia falls (not a definite) it wouldnt matter. Allies are in too strong of a position and with too much of an economic advantage.

You seem to have my number.

Perhaps, but at the same time, every time we play I think I got off lucky. If you had just done a few things different I could have seen things going much differently. Thats why I find myself messing around with J1s trying to get a bit better grasp on what to do with and against J1s.

In this game, I think in pacific, you needed more navy (not as much as games past) and less emphasis on carolines. Axis advantage comes in using the same units to accomplish multiple tasks given their central position. With a huge chunk of air sitting in carolines it accomplished nothing for several turns allowing me to get india back, bulk up china, and eventually push in with russia to move you out of position. If you had kept your air on the mainland you could have used it to do better with china or else hold india.

Similar thing in europe. You always had your air in nov or somewhere near russia (threatening SBR?) and letting US/UK move around at will in the med. Position them in yugo or some other central location and you would have broken thru rostov, kept me from cruising around with relatively minimal investment in the med, and been in much better position.

@simon33 Yes thanks for the game.

If you don’t mind, resetting the board to the start and going again would be my choice…don’t feel I really had the chance to get going…although I’m probably setting myself up for another fall! :joy: :joy:

I’ve really only played A&A games, except for a couple of times where I didn’t get into it.

New World Order is a pretty popular map though.

Yeah, the end game in Persia wasn’t completely clear. I needed to get Iraq as well so that my 2 complexes would be competing with Egypt and South Africa. That would then have potential to at least hold back the British indefinitely while only absorbing some G income.

Very true, I defended Iraq at all cst for a couple or few rounds because of this. If you could get your hands on both Persia and Iraq it is a different game

Well that’s it, I will need to review my allies play drastic. Perhaps I should have done that last year or so…
Well played Simon, I always enjoy our games

Thanks for the game. I think this game was over a while ago. Was glad to kill USSR to speed up the pace.

Not sure what advice I could give TBH. I just think that if Axis are played well, allies don’t have a big chance. But then I can’t normally take down the M level players when I play Axis. So they must know something. One thing you didn’t do was take the Caroline Islands. I think that should have been done.

I’m interested in a slightly different opener as Japan, just not like what you’re suggesting. When I’ve done a J3 DOW I really haven’t liked it. I don’t think I really understand the merit in the J3 DOW unless Germany gets into the Med. Which doesn’t seem that great. J2 just weakens the J1 IMO although it does reduce the risk.

If you’re saying that I should build more navy and less army, the only way I can see that would work out is if you don’t put an IC on Kiangsu, Shantung or Manchuria. Otherwise, you need to defend the IC if China rushes after it, quite obviously. JDOW had a strategy that he’d build on FIC & Malaya and avoid building in China, perhaps for the same reasons. China was a massive pain in my bum in this game. So perhaps there is merit in these ideas but then not having that IC makes fighting China a lot more difficult. Certainly, Malaya is far more useful than Kiangsu if Japan is going after Australia.

One thing I’ve noticed in my games lately is that sometimes I’ve been failing to take Calcutta J5 for no particularly obvious reason. Perhaps this is just less focus on India allowing the stand there to be taken.

I would continue but I was able to find a couple of new games right away so I think I will hold off for now. I would really like to see what happens in the Atlantic in the next couple of turns.

      Thanks again for the game.

I did feel very confident about this game until I lost Berlin. Even though Japan was a bit behind schedule, I liked Italy’s strength.

Perhaps I need a bit of a break from playing. Starting to seem like work a bit.

I think you’re right but you also can’t ignore the land. So like all things A&A there’s a balance that you need to get right.

      Thanks for the game.

You posted in the “Find League Opponents” thread, this thread was created in the league sub forum.

I guess it isn’t a problem because my rating would have reduced with this result.

You weren’t close to a Pacific victory, I wasn’t worried. Leaving Anzac able to take the DEI and keep their tp was a big mistake though.

Yeah this was closer than our other games.

Yeah, that London thing was a close call to even go for. Totally unplanned. Watching the security of London is something I’ve improved as I’ve played more, especially when multiple TTs are around. But there is always the possibility of a mid game unexpected sea lion. I think the 2017 championship game was decided this way.

      Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the game. Happy to go again whenever you’re available.

      @JDOW said in Simon33 (Axis) vs AetV (Allies) BM3 - no IJ/Ok:

Yes, the DD block is annoying and slows Japan down another turn. Nothing she can do about it.

But by threatening a Soviet move into Korea as you have done here, you make it virtually certain to not occur. 1 transport is needed to attack Korea but the others can reinforce with troops from Tokyo, if they aren’t attacking elsewhere of course.
