      No worries. I guess I’ll need to defend Rome a bit better in future.

      Thanks for the game.

      Congrats on the bombing fix, well done, indeed!

      Regarding those automatisms the benefit IMHO depends on the user: For well experienced players this might help speeding up the game. For beginners and those using TripleA to learn the mechanics of Axis and Allies, I would prefer not to leave too much to the engine and possible automatisms (see my above statement). So giving the choice to either run (whatever) processes automatically or manually would be just perfect, IMHO.

      Yes, it has to be reactive.

      Even with the bid I proposed, Tirano points out to me that they can still easily take down SZ 110 and SZ 111 as long as they bring the BB in.  Don’t know if keeping that UK navy is even possible but after the G42 lessons learned, you need that on the board naval stuff as the nucleus of your fleet if you want to have any chance of even Annoying Germany First.  Unless the bid is allowed to be placed all in one territory (like in the tournament), there doesn’t seem to be a way to save it on G1, and if you are allowed to place all in one territory, he says, why not stack France?  Seems sound…then he cant attack SZ 110 and 111 AND Paris.

      Then we fall back to making Egypt and Med Navy tougher, suppressing Italy earlier, like you guys said.  Guess its just the clearest weak point.

      @simon33:

      I’m going to take that as meaning “You don’t have to, but it may be advised”. On that point, I’m happy to agree.

      It’s 79% IIRC correctly of killing a 3ftr scramble and the BB with 3ftrs (2 from London) and no sub.

      Yeah, that was my intended meaning. Your way of writing it conveys what I meant. I guess it all comes down to what you’re willing to risk percentage wise in that battle. Some people might be comfortable with something in the 80s, others might prefer a higher percentage.

      The great thing about G40 is there’s never really a right or wrong answer. I’ve never looked back from the classic or even the revised editions once I tried G40.

      @simon33:

      I’ve been asked to get it verified that this is indeed a bug in Triple-A. Probably in the map/xml setup.

      We agree that it should be Pacific, right?

      Perhaps no one has noticed that it is in fact Europe.

      Correct, but it is in the game notes:

      @Game:

      Rules specific to 1940 the engine does not do, but you must follow:
      …

      (EM) India (UK Pacific) must pay for repairing any damaged facilities on the pacific half of the board (instead of London paying) (use edit mode to subtrack the PUs from India and give back to London).

      @simon33:

      Oh.

      I concede this game. I knew I should have secured Egypt more strongly. Maybe I should have rolled the dice on that 24% hail mary to get into Calcutta. Major boo boo not landing the other 2 bombers in Kwangsi, and running back to SZ6 when I couldn’t defend it.

      Rematch switching sides?

      Sure, what’s the email?

      It’s a 69% attack against starting units in Leningrad. 49% if they put 1 extra inf in. So they can withdraw 5 troops on the peninsula back to Leningrad and 4 troops from Leningrad - perhaps more if they fly some planes in. In balanced mod, this theory has more merit if marines are bought G1.

      The point here is that it slows the Soviet withdrawal to Bryansk. Particularly good if the southern force is sitting in Western Ukraine at the end of USSR1 - they can’t counter attack a force smashing the withdrawing Leningrad forces although may be able to hit a weak German force in Eastern Poland.

      @Der:

      @simon33:

      You can look at it like that. I’m looking at it from the point of view of what makes the game more fun. If I take your baking a cake analogy, do you read the recipe before shopping for ingredients? The current turn order is basically, buy some ingredients, read the recipe (combat movement), bake cake (conduct combat). You have to prognosticate what will be in the recipe to know what you need to buy.

      No combat movement would be moving all of your ingredients to stove. ;)

      I think my analogy is every bit as valid as yours.

      The point is that the need to prognosticate the likely outcome of the board at the end of your combats is unnecessary, time consuming and reduces the fun. Whether the current rule makes sense or not isn’t really relevant.

      The point about forgetting to purchase isn’t really valid with a Triple-A game because it prompts you. You can say that a forgotten purchase is a zero purchase if you apply the rule strictly. In general I would expect so if a retrospective purchase gives an unfair advantage.

      Face to face, I use a merged purchase+combat movement phase. Probably why we can play a game in a day.

      I guess I didn’t count on losing either of the two transports I lost on the second turn. 'Twas a brain fart off Borneo and I guess a bit weak in Philippines. You were correct to roll the dice on that one.

      I think I see why I didn’t buy a TT J2 - I theorised that wouldn’t have been able to afford to put troops on it. But perhaps if I saved 1IPC by downgrading an art or a mech to an inf, I would have. Bad call.
