@Juno You can’t put a major complex on a non original territory. Unless you’re playing 1st edition.

I usually don’t look at it, but it’s obvious that’s another good metric, especially when put togetherI look at income mostly and TUV only a little. Maybe I am getting it backwards there?

RE: Thoughts on Allies Strategy
Normally Belarus will have a bunch of troops which will prevent either E Poland or Baltic States being stacked.
That sounds pretty similar to what I would do. I don’t really see you invading the USSR on that initial buy unless USSR just runs home.

What are other things people don’t like about OOB???
The air raid rules. Too often these result in no hits but rolling a lot of dice at 1s means a lot of swinginess. BM, where ftrs roll at 2 attacking and defending but bombers and tacs roll at 1 is much better IMO.
Also the cheesy attack on SZ62 J1. I think the setup should be changed to include a sub there. While the attack is still possible, probably not advised.
Also, for your comments on USSR, I think the changes to their NOs in BM are great*, . Why reinvent the wheel?

- except for the bonus for Japan doing a DOW on USSR. I play A&A because I want to kill. I can accept delay for preparation but I don’t like a game long disincentive to actually play the game which is what this is.
There are other reasons to love G40 over BM. It is normally a faster game, although when BM first came out the opposite was true. It should be obvious that more income with the same starting setup should slow getting a result. Also, I find BM much more scripted in its outcomes whereas G40 is more flexible. I wonder if the objectives in BM should have been negative objectives for the opposite side, at least some of them.

RE: How many G40 games have you played?
I actually find online via the lobby quite similar to face to face. It’s play-by-forum which makes the difference.

Didn’t include this in my first reply and it applies equally to BM and G40 but I do positively hate that Normandy can be left French by the Axis and nothing the allies can do about it. That stops USA from using the factory there no matter what they do. They have to go on to Paris to get French income.

RE: Allied Playbook Draft v1.0
If this is a list of potential allied gambits rather than what I would call a playbook, one thing is missing.
Korea landing.
USA lands on Korea from Midway, Hawaii or the Carolines. USSR uses its Amur stack to reinforce said landing and keeps Mongolia alive. Next turn, USA can land planes and build an IC and also start attacking Manchuria. This can be aided by a naval base on Midway, which requires 3 DDs to block.
The good part here is that a large force is needed to stay north to stop this move. The bad part is that you aren’t threatening the money islands.
One playbook I will write. If there is a G1 DOW, build IC on Persia UK2, fighters UK3, move to Moscow UK4. Next step: win.

Instead of tech being random, my play group is toying with the idea that certain techs are activated once a power takes a specific action. It would work a lot like a one time NO. Examples would be the UK getting Paratroopers the first time it attacks Holland or Japan gaining Shipyards after building an AB on the Solomons. We haven’t played a game - or even figured out how all the techs would work - so I have no idea how this would impact gameplay.
I really like this idea although the actuality of the details might make it less likeable. It’s always struck me as weird that you invest in research and can’t direct where the investment goes!

RE: Stopping Japan?
USA equalling the IJN requires a sustained and committed build up. Generally, you should build a lot of CVs and subs, with a few DDs. Don’t spend too much money on troops and transports (although you should have some) or Cruisers and BBs. When the USA can hold the Carolines, they’re part way there. Convoying, taking and holding money islands or Korea are all good moves if the opportunity presents.

I think the rule was largely a reaction to Axis bombing of Moscow.
I don’t think I said this before but if that what the 14IPC bombers were for, I think the change was misguided. I think SBR should be part of the game. And as for your theory about stopping/weakening dark skies, I’ve never really seen anyone do this but I can’t imagine that it isn’t easy enough for USA to counter with just a slightly larger fleet than normal. While this soaks up some of their income, it also costs Germany a significant number of its land units.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)
@greyleaf2
From Eur rules, p23:
“Move the newly purchased units from the mobilization zone on the game board to eligible spaces you have controlled
since the start of your turn.”So since you would be putting the industrial complex on the board in the “Mobilize New Units” phase, you fail this test.
That was kind of hard to find.

RE: League General Discussion Thread
Maybe a note in the league rules for how to deal with this limitation, then I don’t think I would have to remind you.

Yes. It is also the correct allied response to not J1.

RE: League General Discussion Thread
Are league players aware that for quite a while Triple-A has had an autosave feature. After every move phase, before and after battle phases and at the end of a turn a save is made automatically into the “autoSave” subdirectory of the default save game directory/folder.

My G40 BM games are now at least 18-22 rounds if they are competitive. Once in awhile you get a rout that causes someone to throw in the towel first 5-10 rounds. But not usual. Even if Germany captures Russia, it isn’t over if Allies are in good position. Almost the start of the game really.
For a shorter game, try knocking out some NOs. An unfortunate side effect from BM.

Can anyone please tell me how to read .tsvg files?
Opening them with a text editor doesn’t work – I just get unreadable symbols.
I’d like to extract some information from a save game file of a previous round, but I have no clue how to access the content.
Any hint or direction would be very much appreciated. 🙂My suggestion is open in Triple-A and use the export to xml feature.

Obviously, G40 is THE standout A&A game in many departments, but that time sink and the amount of RAM you need in your head is sometimes staggering.
I know what you mean here. The mental drain of playing a whole game in one sitting is very noticeable, even if it is <10 rounds.

It’s a special relationship between UK/ANZAC and Dutch
USA can’t take control of Dutch
Can we ask the follow up question, does this make sense? We have bm and yg and bb. I can’t get the play tester hat off no matter how hard I try.
It does to some degree because it stops USA from coming in and claiming Dutch New Guinea in particular, then being able to put a naval base down there. I don’t mind the rule the way it is.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)
You must be reading the rules from the A&A Europe part, not the global part of the rules.
Logically, if there is no Japan, they can’t allow USA to enter the war.

RE: Larry Harris Semi-Official Tournament Game Patch
Is the sign up on the harrisgamedesign.com website broken? I still haven’t gotten the email and it isn’t in junk. I’ve tried getting it resent too.
Unfortunately, the anti-spammer measures at Larry’s site can cause a delay of up to a couple of days when you’re signing up and making your first post. Please be patient.
Well it’s now been a week. I think it is fair to say that it is broken.
