Are you able to retreat to SZ19? It’s a hostile sea zone, I wouldn’t have thought that was allowed, will check the rules.

I didn’t see the need to resort to Forum dice here. Would have been easier with normal dice. Only if someone objects to sub casualties would you need to do that.

Actually, you had plenty of plane hits which can hit my planes. I’ve removed 2 Japanese fighters.
I thought I had enough to fend off the Yanks there. If I was really worried I should have forgotten about putting planes in Amur. Bad in Greece too.

In SZ31 US planes are on US CVs, 1 ANZAC plane on a US CV (not shared). 2 ANZACs on the Anzac CV.

Apologies for stopping playing this. Was depressed and stressed and couldn’t motivate myself to play. Bit of a shame because I think I was ahead in this game.
Interesting game. @AndrewAAGamer I think when bids rise this high you should put a plane on Malta and avoid sending the CV into Taranto. Main risk of this attack is if no defending hits occur on the first round you need to send the CV in anyway. still should be no more than 1/6 of games do you lose the CV this way. You could have done this by omitting the 111 sub and some of the cash you kept.

You are pretty accurate here. Normandy adds some positive value to Germany/Italy but it also represents a pretty significant weak spot. It’s two spaces from the major factory and has a factory ready to go. If USA lands on Holland, they have to hold it for two turns before being able to build anything. Germany can probably ignore this threat (unless more than about 5 US TTs are in the Atlantic) and react if it materialises but it can’t ignore the threat of Normandy with only a small landing force. Normandy earns only 2ipc which can be easily convoyed. Southern France can be similar to Normandy but it has Italy’s major factory next to it which needs a number of troops to defend itself. Also, leaving that French means planes can attack North Italy from a Gibraltar airbase and land on Southern France. I think leave Southern France French isn’t a winning move at least in BM and probably not in G40. Relatively easy to defend that one unless Italy has already been neutered. It makes less sense to leave Normandy French in Balanced Mod because you can give up a USA objective if it puts troops on Holland or Sth France. Still this requires troops next door to an axis major factory unless someone is blitzing Holland and that allows Germany or Italy to pick them off. Sorry for the long rant.
Been playing online again and I would have to say that the league is great and Balanced Mod is mostly great. Online most people only play G40. At least if you start a league game you know the strength of the opponent unless they are a newbie. Shouldn’t be any unintentional mismatched games. The play by forum takes a long time to play though.
There are a lot of other limitations in G40 which are improved in Balanced Mod and not the least is no propaganda for Soviet Africa. That is really silly. Also allowing Moscow to live a bit longer more easily really improves the game in my view. It’s been weird to play G40 again and see how easily Germany can pick off Moscow G6. Stoppable but requires a lot of allied effort.
Some people hate the extra objectives in Balanced Mod for USA such as the North African and Carolines objectives and I would have to say I agree with this criticism. There wasn’t a need for these changes nor for the penalty for Japan to DOW on USSR. The plunder changes also seem a bit meh in retrospect.
That attack wasn’t smart but I got out of it ok.
