In Game 191, that double scramble cost Germany all the subs, 2 extra tacs and 3 fighters which is a 1:1 trade (5 allied fighters for 5 German planes).
IMO, that’s a win for the allies, a significant one.
Recently, I’ve gone with this:
SZ111: BB, 2subs, ftr/tac
SZ110: 2subs 3ftrs/3tacs 2bombers
The theory being you can polish off the SZ110 fleet probably without a scramble. If the UK does scramble, you should kill most of the planes round 1. In SZ111, you have to expect a scramble and you would really like to kill the cruiser in the first round. If you can do that, it’s easy to retreat. Leaving the BB alive in SZ111 doesn’t really cause that much trouble IMO. It can often be killed G2.
Variations:
(1) If you strip one sub from SZ111 to attack SZ106, you risk losing a plane there. Also, 2 subs to SZ106 normally cannot make it back to join the rest of the German fleet. That sub also potentially provides an extra hit defending SZ112 from a UK1 attack.
(2) stripping a bomber from SZ110 to strengthen SZ111 makes the SZ110 scramble very costly for Germany.
(3) Sending the battleship to SZ110 means the battleship is toast. Sometimes it may not survive going to SZ111 but I feel it’s worth the attempt to let it survive.
(4) Bidding a fighter to Scotland probably means you should just concentrate on SZ110.
