Bid: ftr Scotland.
@SuperbattleshipYamato That remains to be seen but what I expect is more fighting especially early.Rather than thinking of trying to claim islands and build objective income, Axis players will be going all out for Vichy while Allies will want to stop it. Only place where fighting will reduce is SZ62 which is a bit of an annoyance to me, so much riding on dice in a J1, especially if there wasn’t a New Guinea inf bid. Later there will be more fighting over Paris. USA can walk in one round then back to Normandy next round and then activate Normandy over again. They would lose one or more rounds of production out of the Normandy factory but not forever. Also, more fighting in China to make sure you retake the Burma Rd every round. Pressure to do that seems eased in BM.
At one time Balanced Mod saw axis bids but now they’re often over 20. So perhaps something like that will happen here. Or maybe bids will trend the other way? I’m not sure to be honest but I feel these changes make the game more than a little better.
The way I read it, the player playing the allies would decide what’s removed from the Axis. It is a really interesting idea actually. I think bids could be much smaller that way because you could remove the units which punch above their weight. Which would certainly be the Japanese land units on Asia, and the transports which help to get more Japanese land units on Asia (as well as the islands).
Moscow doesn’t die in the top level games, at least not usually very early. So I challenge the suggestion that the bid needs to fix that.
BTW, I disagree that losing 2 out of 21 Japanese planes would make a significant difference to taking the spice islands. What are you talking about? Losing transports would certainly make a difference though.

@axis-dominion WooHoo! Get your popcorn out! Good luck to you gentlemen. May the dice treat you both fairly.
Where’s the fun in that? I hope the dice dish out equal beatings to both sides.

I can now announce version 2 of the French Rebalance (renamed from Parisian Rebalance)
- All French territories become capturable by USA/UK/Anzac if they don’t go Vichy.
- Sub in sz62
- French troop in French Indo China
- One infantry in Siam upgraded to an artillery
- Chinese Burma Road objective restored to 6PUs
- Several BM changes now turned off by default (Guerrillas, objectives for Carolines, NW Africa for USA, Okinawa&Iwo Jima for Japan and the UK objective requiring 2 of Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Rome, USSR bonus for provoking a Japanese DOW on it)
- Anzac declaring war on Japan doesn’t put Britain at war with Japan
I would think it likely now that Vichy is activated by the Axis nearly always but UK fights them for it.
Version 3 is
Also contains 1 bug fix - North Africa objective not disabled, never had an option!
Interesting viewpoint. I would still be inclined to add up the units’ power in my head even though I don’t have a calculator or a pen and paper. It’s a bit rougher than a calculator particularly because it doesn’t count the number of hits but should give you some idea. Perhaps that would cause less irritation than using pen and paper. I’ve played games that calculators were frown upon but pen and paper was ok. I thought all that did was slow down the process.
I do think the idea that calculators are allowed but only on someone else’s turn is really interesting!

i intended to put a british dude in caucasus. If you accept it put one there, if not it is not a big deal
I was really counting on only needing one mech to take Caucasus - I included that in my calculation to attack Rostov as I did. I think I need to decline this one. Sorry.
@Argothair said in G40 Balance Mod - Feedback Thread:
Does anyone have a list of what’s new in BM4 vs. BM3? I missed that somehow.
Should be in the rules thread but it just changed that bombers now cost 14IPC.
You should have a look at games where there has been a G1 DOW. That’s a hard road for the Axis, in spite of the low numbers of troops for USSR, Germany also has a very low number of troops and is forced to invest in expensive mechanised units to get into USSR on time. Generally also means thinning down the G1 France attack which makes higher risks and more casualties.

Just woke up in the middle of the night and came to think of our last game when I was Allies. The Chinese should not be chicken, but actually need to stay by the coast to guard Kiangsu. I’d like to edit their NCM.
Sounds fine. Can’t imagine anything Italy did would affect it. And UK had no combats.
After Pearl Harbour they went to take Sydney because I had flown the 3 anzac planes to defend Hawaii. They did get Manilla and the DEI but later than usual and died big time in China. Still, their income was lower than normal because of their death in China. Becomes very important to hold India. Second game of this strat is going and I unzipped my fly a bit and lost India and I expect to retake but then lose it permanently. USA has actually liberated Sydney though. So the game is still ongoing.
@Panther said in Bombardments - no Incentive to invest in BBs and CAs?:
You are correct, until and including Revised Offshore Bombardment was part of the “Opening Fire Step”, so casualties don’t fire back in those editions.
Which is probably why there is a rule that you have to decide your bombard casualties before the main attack roll. I think it’s a bit silly now but it works that way in Triple-A.
@rulebook_reviewer Yeah few people buy any Cruisers or Battleships. Even in Balanced Mod where there is an additional land unit (marines) which can be carried on these ships. Loaded CVs are what people buy rather than huge numbers of DDs. You know the difference in combat ability is not that great actually - the defender always has the edge, I guess mostly because the 0/2 combat ability of CVs. But carrying planes is also useful for attacking land units, particularly islands. Keeping starting BBs is useful but if you lose them, rebuilding with CVs only is a better option.
@trulpen said in trulpen (Allies+10) vs simon33 (Axis) BM3:
Rule question: The UK fig on the US ac in sz91 is considered to be cargo. If I go with that ac into sz112 supporting an amphibious attack and it gets damaged, I interpret the rules as the fig gets destroyed, although the rules say “are destroyed if the carrier is destroyed”. Think it won’t matter for practical reasons, but I’m just curious about the rule.
If you attack with the the allied fighter on board and take 2 hits on the CV, the allied plane is destroyed. If you take only one hit, the plane is trapped on the CV until it is repaired. In that state, it can neither attack nor defend. Obviously, if you don’t take any hits, it’s the same as if it moves on NCM. Still a guest plane which can defend or attack on its own turn.
Cruisers are even worse than BBs. At least with BBs you have the potential to clean up stray ships and then repair the damage for free.
Improved shipyards could indeed change the equation. Most people don’t like to play with tech.
In general I think the war in Europe goes as well as could be expected for the axis, given that you are playing Adam. Japan is still fighting too. There’s definitely still a game here.
@OwenToo said in TripleA engine - Known rules-related bugs/issues:
In TripleA, Why are air units allowed to fly through the Turkish Straits when Turkey in Neutral?
That’s legal. You don’t overfly Turkey when you overfly the strait.
@rulebook_reviewer said in Bombardments - no Incentive to invest in BBs and CAs?:
I do not have TripleA and I always see it written in the forums. Quite frankly I do not know what it is.
It’s a computer program that allows playing Axis and Allies, along with some other games.
Ok, I concede. I can’t maintain my Japanese navy and Europe is pretty much toast. That’s what the 6ftr on W USA was for eh!
I’ll post your result.
I’m interested in going again, same sides and bid. Or we could disable the Iwo J+Ok objective.
Is the sign up on the harrisgamedesign.com website broken? I still haven’t gotten the email and it isn’t in junk. I’ve tried getting it resent too.

Well it’s now been a week. I think it is fair to say that it is broken.
